We must remind Star Wars that it's getting its source material from that mountain.

In the Bad Batch, the facility is much larger it seems, than in legends. In the show, Omega’s room is close enough to the base elevation of the mountain so that she can hear Batcher howling and the tunnels from where the hounds are released are also relatively short (which seem to be not on the mountain side, and probably on the base of the mountain). The trenches on the mountain seem to go all the way around the mountain too. There is also a neighboring mountain that’s very similar to Tantiss. These are huge facilities, but I guess they would need to be to house zillow beast cloning vats…

It would be interesting if Thrawn makes Tantiss his base of operations after returning. Perhaps the facilities from the Bad Batch era have been abandoned since then and still stocked with supplies since it was very much off the record books for the Empire and thus the Republic since then.

Love the Thrawn Trology, it was one of the first expanded universe stories I read growing up. Seeing the artwork from it in this video was a huge nostalgia hit.

I have a feeling that if they bring Tantis for canon thrawn to use they may have it contain already grown clones in a form of stasis. They may still bring back the original cloning but who knows what they will do

That’s really cool, I always wondered what people thought the Clone Wars were like before the prequels came out. I learned in this video that people assumed that it was the clones vs the Jedi and the clones were evil. That’s actually a really cool idea, probably the inspiration for Order 66 in the story we got.

7:30 (in legends) maybe this was set up as a fall-back continuity of government facility, similar to the ones that were made inside mountains (like Mount Weather in Virginia, Raven Rock Mountain in Pennsylvania, and others) during the Cold War in real life. Having a huge computer and a cloning facility Palpatine could quite literally build an army from essentially scratch (similar to what Thrawn did in the book).

Like a lot of the recent material, it definitely seems to be part of the effort to rehabilitate Rise of Skywalker by explaining the "somehow Palpatine returned" line.

I have read on Wookiepedia that Mount Tantiss was once the location of an underground fortress and lab used by the Arkanian mutant scientist and terrorist Zeta Magnus, who entered Darth Sidious' service after Sidious promised him immortality. The site was used as a major lab for the CIS' most important experiments during the Clone Wars with it being there that Magnus experimented on dashta eel tissue samples for the JK-13 security droids and where were laid the foundation of the Morgukai Shadow Army with the cloning tubes used and deviced by Magnus. The Spartii cloning cylinders were installed here by Kinman Doriana after he had stolen them from their origin place on Cartao, on Sidious' orders.

I imagine that, seeing as Project Retcon (Project Necromancer) is taking place at Tantiss, the facilities will have either moved when Thrawn returns to the main galaxy, or that he wouldn’t know about it. I believe that the Night Sisters’ magic will be the Canon stand-in for Thrawn’s clones in Legends.

I always assumed that it was supposed to be an emergency command bunker just as much as a storehouse (and even that aspect seemed more like a cache to be used in a crisis than anything else).

There is of course a way to keep both versions and have them be the truth. With Palpatine becoming Emperor he can manipulate the data. There could be two planets named Weyland and two Mount Tantiss installations, one stricken from most records. One the facility shown in the Bad Bath and one Palpatine's storehouse and fallback base. Hide one secret behind the other. Most would end the search at the research facility and it would take someone with the status of a Grand Admiral and the abilities of Thrawn to see through it.

I love the Collection. On the Switch it runs like a dream and that one popular Galactic Civil War mod looks sick.

Since we saw Thrawn heading to Dathomir I am curious if they are gonna clone the Dark Jedi who rests there - Taron Malikos. He kinda looks like Jorus, if you ask me. Mad clone of Dark Jedi enhanced by Nightsister's Magik seems like a worthy opponent for Luke in his current power. Probably too of a wishful thinking, but with the amount of references to Fallen Order in recent media - who knows.

A potential idea could be that the Mount Tantis we see in the Bad Batch could be phase 1 of the system. The Mount Tantis in legends could be the final phase. So if the known area is destroyed people will assume all was destroyed. Hide a secret base near a known base and let known base be destroyed so enemy assumes its all gone

Want to ad that if remembered correctly cloning too quick had bad effects for the clone because something with the force, so Kaminoen clone tech with a low accelerated cloning procedure and now these cloning cylinders as some old tech that Thrawn can still use his idea of those force cloaking creatures, but can only wait and see what they take from the source idea.

Losing a planet to a "filing error" is the sort of thing that would, and likely does, happen in Warhammer 40k. It seems weird that the comparatively more cohesive Star Wars galaxy where you can get anywhere connected to a hyperlane within days would have this be a thing for long.

1:45 IIRC Pellaeon said in the Imperial conference call scene that he's building a fleet for Thrawn in Mando s3, so not necessarily so underpowered. Also the Empire is united (at that point in Legends they were by and large fighting each other because Tarkin's ex hadn't happened yet) while NR is inefficient and has a massive mole problem. So it seems to be almost opposite of Heir to the Empire. Also there's nothing that sounds like the Dark Force, and everybody fandom guessed as replacement Joruus C'Baoth (as if Filoni could not just import the guy like he did Thrawn and Pellaeon) is stranded on another galaxy or a good guy. The story seem in fact be jumping straight to the Last Command. 7:10 It's not. It's people writing source books taking something, not considering its original function and making it ridiculously overcomplicated, resulting in the fiction looking ridiculous in the new, unintended context. It's one of my bigger problems with Legends. What canon seems to be doing is a Filonism of on one hand Mount Tantiss being this whole complicated structure, and Thrawn's cloning facility, and giving it a backstory tying it to his bosses demanding buildup to the DT being the bottom line. However, notably Tantiss in new canon does not seem to be a cloning facility. They're experimenting in clone prisoners, but I don't think we've seen them produce a single clone, or the equipment for it. It could be that Filoni is just grabbing a name and giving it a new spin, while the facility remains unrelated to Thrawn because, again, Pellaeon seems to be building Thrawn a fleet.

Honestly - it'd be cool if what we see in Bad Batch was built by someone other than the Kaminoens, maybe an older group that was more advanced and could do it faster but just as good (maybe something dating back to the wars with the Sith and them trying to gain an edge) or maybe it was less perfected but still faster, something even more disposable than the Republic's clones, so you can get a useable soldier in 5 years or less, which lines up with what we may have seen in Mandalorian with the various Moffs and all as one of their projects, but at that rate of accelerated growing but the time their actually 10 their physically 40 - they aren't gonna last as long which isn't great in a protracted conflict.

I always thought Palpatine used the Jedi from the outbound flight project to try to clone a force sensitive and Joruus was a result of that, unstable as he was.

I don't necessarily mind revising aspects of source material to better fit a narrative Dave Filloni might be cooking up. Only time will tell what thoughts lie beneath that cowboy hat, but what he and his writing colleagues have done has kept me interested in the animated series since high school! I would really like to see what they do with the M. count transfer in cloning... Maybe they link it up to Starkiller/Galen Marek's clone? Since they destroyed Kamino's facilities, I would think it was because they had no use for mass production and wanted to focus on quality over quantity, i.e. cloning force sensitives for a renewed Sith empire.

I'm really hoping we see Thrawn show up in the finale of Bad Batch at Mount Tantis and then Ahsoka S2 starts with him going there. Get all the threads connecting and maybe, just maybe, this web of references can explain "somehow Palpatine returned"

Huh, didn't realize that the lore said Palpatine built it. My only exposure to Mount Tantiss was a fanfiction during the clone wars era, it established the place as being one of Darth Plagueis' facilities where he studied the ability to clone force users.

I think it’d be kinda cool if, instead of finding Joruus on Tantis, Thrawn finds Mace Winduu in new canon. Although, I guess the whole point of Joruus is that he has the Battle Meditation technique, whereas Mace was never shown to have a particular knack for that specific ability. Still, might be a good way to satisfy the folks who want Mace back without it actually being the same Mace from the prequels; Winduu, not Windu ya dig? A mad clone, that is.

I could see the tantis base being destroyed by the clones and possibly taking hemlock down with it, this would be a way to end hemlock and tantis if they don’t wanna continue with it. Maybe the bases power station is rigged to detonate or its orbital bombarding

If you look anywhere it is all the same Thrawn and Bane Trilogy, Kenobi, Darth Plagueis, and basically anything from Timothy Zahn, I have read all of those and have read, or am planning to read all of the big series X-Wing, New Jedi Order, Legacy Of The Force and Fate Of The Jedi plus basically everything that is an unabridged audiobook on Audible and would love to hear some recommendations for fans like me who have read all of the big and famous parts and want some more obscure but good books.
