This was my chaplain when he found out I was the battalion atheist. "So, you know.. we have snacks after service..in case you want to, i dont know. Come on down and give it a try." Me thinking: is he trying to bribe me with skittles? Him thinking: I must save this lost soul!

First of, I sincerely hope you one day come to accept the word of God. SECONDLY!! Even though I’m Christian, I was surprised asf in basic when the chaplain came by and led a Christian prayer circle that basically the whole group was involved in without much chance to object. He did throw in a “and if you don’t pray, feel free to participate in accordance with your faith tradition” but I was like woahhhh, this is great and all but ain’t this a major violation of separation of church and state ☠️

Story time. I had 3 chaplains in my life that weren't your average people. 1) Chaplain Appleton a Lt. Col via the USMC ranks, idk Navy, dude was a Combat Engineer for 18 years, apart of the initial push for both wars, 3 CARs, Purple Hearts, and like 2 Bronze Stars. Dope man, his assistant told us a story about his legal issue one year where he went to visit a FP and they took contact, he ran ammo, helped call in 9 lines, and when the 240 gunner got hit he rendered aid and manned the gun until the enemy was stopped. Great guy. 2) Father David, prior religious assistant, the Chaplains body guard. He stacked bodies and had a CAR because his convoy got ambushed by some royal guard unit during the first push in Iraq I think, and his Chaplain got hit, along with the vic commander. He held Jedi religious services. We meditated, beat each other with lightsabers and even had Jedi/ Sith battles. He was a black belt in MCMAP and would throw down "In the name of the lord." His favorite line was "Boys, it's time for a fucking crusade." 3) Chaps Carpenter, prior door kicker for a 3 letter agency, became their Chaplain, then transfered to the Navy, got assigned to a Army/ Navy joint SF unit. Then assigned to Raider battalion in 2010, came to me in 2019, no idea who he was but he stepped into the MCMAP pit and donned the gear for baton training and took on my 3 instructors and held them off pretty decently. "The lord wants dangerous men. He needs them for the fight against evil. So bluntly, we don't want pussies in our Corps." The last speech he gave before I got out.

Man this is legit from my experiences. There was one exception as this guy was a former combat arms Soldier so he was a bit more rough around the edges. Chaplains aren't authorized to carry weapons (their assistants do) but this dude had a small knife on his person that he can do some sick moves with. He also carried something like a machete "just in case"

one of the last things that stayed with me ( I'm old school , MCRD Hollywood, Sept- Nov 1971, Plt 3098 ) that my SDI told us, was that if we ever came across "things" that you knew were total BS, and was certain was not gonna be "resolved", when all else fails, and as a last resort... go tell the chaplain... "because even the Commandant isn't about to mess with the chaplain" ! Luckly, for me, it never came to that, and those words came back when the flick "Causualties of War" came out.

Your chaps either has a personality like this, or has a ribbon stack as high as his body stack was in Iraq. I've had a chaplain who was an 03 in the first push into Iraq, he got out and missed his Marines and found his spot in ministry. Another chaplain I had was a prior combat engineer who got out and was employed by a certain "agency" and went back into the reserves to continue his military and religious journey.
