I first learned about Lentini and how highly rated he was through the video game Sensible Soccer. He was one of the standout players in the AC Milan team in that game. I had to look him up online to find out more because during the 2000s virtually nobody was talking about him. I guess by that stage he was playing in the lower tiers of Italian football and his still ongoing story was deemed too sad to talk about. It is really tragic how the talent he once had was lost because of a spare tire and him rushing to get back somewhere. That’s why I hate having to rush for things. If something unexpected happens it’s usually better to wear the consequences of being late than it is to risk a traffic accident

Lentini had a very good season in the first year at Milan. That Milan side had one of the best squads of all times. Remember the signing and the amount which astonished everyone outside Italian football. Saw him play a few times for Italy and Milan and never understood what the hype was about - now I understand why. Had no idea he played to his mid forties. Fasinating and inspiring.

I remember reading about Lentini in a UK newspaper when I was around 13 years of age. He was the biggest transfer ever at the time and I was in disbelief that somebody could be worth (reported to be) £12m. I told friends at school and nobody believed me. Now, £12m gets you nothing.

It's funny how you sometimes read a title and you know exactly about who that video is going to be. I still remember reading about his recordbreaking Transfer to Milan in the Newspaper and People being apalled by the money thrown around, but i never knew how the story continued. I just thought he's one of those one season wonders who never reach their level again once they move top a big club - following foreign football was far more diffult back then. Now I finally know. Fantastic choice to cover that incredible story.

Also went to the top of african football in the 80s and 90s and then a terrible air crash saw them lose all their best players in 1993 in a world cup qualifier. The captain did not board the plane and was tasked to rebuild the team to qualify for the 1994 world cup which this missed by like one point. They were still in the african cup of nations and the team that rose from the ashes made it to the final against Nigeria and unfortunately lost. Eventually in 2012 they won the african cup of nations. I am south African and I feel that this should definitely be part of footballing history. WOW!, I thought the tragedies suffered by Man Utd and Liverpool were bad, but with Torino it seems it's been a continuous issue.

Side note:- Getting Enzo schifo in his prime was a huge coup for Torino. His goal scoring record from midfield was like Frank lampards. Schifo was more technically gifted though and should of played in the Prem. He also played in 4 world cups surprisingly. Another classic...I'm binge watching today lol

His transfer fee was truly breathtaking amounts, back then being a millionaire meant you were very very rich, now a days it’s a race to be a billionaire! Was sad what happened to him.

I think it’s a shame that more top class players don’t drop down to the lower leagues before they retire, especially for their home town teams.

The final against Ajax wasnt one ac milan could win , to many things happend at AC. milan That year. van Basten would never teturn again after his last operation failed , Ruud Gullit came back to milan and left again for sampdoria. It was a season best to be forgotten for milan o many things went against the club and the players. The first two games against ajax in the group stage both where lost . and it set the tone for the season . I personaly think if Gianluige Lentini played and lost would have crushed him even more.
