Tip to freelancers and small firms: Use contracts! Don't do handshake agreements! Contract not only protect you, they protect your client and make you look more professional.

Totally. I made that huge mistake agreeing to a long term work term on handshake, and tonight am really nervous about confronting the employer over the phone about repeatedly pushing back my start date, meaning I've had no income for a month and a half. And I proposed on-call payment or a deposit and they flat out said no. Handshake is awful. Everyone else happily switched to contract.

i had fire my first client this year last 2 month, the boss is a very nice guys, but his manager is really annoying. She bring me wrong feedback from her boss, and ask many things out of the jobs, like how do you do this, can we do that,... . I dont mind that sharing the knowledge, but sometimes its really cross the line. Next time i will prepare my research about the client more carefully before do the contract, cuz i dont want to work with someone like that again.

Also, what milestones would be in terms of building a website for example? Like one would obviously be a landing page, but what else, how many milestones should there be?
@aceloud
@aceloud 4 жыл бұрын
Well it's all about your process, if you are asked to do the design and development, you can break it into parts like : Research when you have to get more information about the users and build personas, then the 2nd milestone would be the wireframes, the 3rd will be the design of the pages and after validating the designs with the clients the last one would be the development and the deployment. You can add also teaching the client how to use the website as a final step if their website is dynamic (how to use the CMS) !

Now I’m back to this video with full of frustration. The client keep finding the way to make me work for them for free. Like this is a bug from the beginning. And I blame myself for it . I cannot sleep and keep thinking about how to talk with them.

I think that some potential clients would not want to pay downpayment because of trust issues and what to do in that case? Just not work with them?
@alexlynpi
@alexlynpi 4 жыл бұрын
In that case, be upfront. Don't take the works until the client make themselves clear about it. Don't jump into the pricing. Talk to your potential client, learn their language/business, make them feel like you'll give full commitments, build trust first. Don't forget to include about it in the proposal, proceed only after they agreed and sign the paper.

I totally agree that going to justice could be more expensive, you have to spend money and time, also since you are revealing the problem to the public it is bad for your reputation as a freelancer or a business, because what really counts is the relation and not just the transaction. So you can for example give the client more time or you can finally end up firing him even if you lose some money

Ran check out this youtube video entitled: "Man Gets 'Rude' Woman to Reimburse Him for Movie Ticket After Bad Date" Apparently, it is not that hard to sue people.

I have had a client that became such a big micro manager, I could not take it anymore. The client decided to fully dictate the design of a site, and wanted to have everything exactly how she wanted. At the time, I was just starting out and did not want to leave a client unhappy.So I did suck it up, and worked very hard to do things just how the client wanted. In the end, we did settle any arguments and came out with a website that looks just how they wanted it. But I will definitely never work with a client like that again.

Naz Dumanskyy you need to put on your contract that every milestone has only 2 revisions and additional revisions cost 10% of the overall cost of the project. Then when they dictate, collect.

🎉 if you take advice about firing your clients from a guy in a video wearing a T-shirt and undershirt that he probably had on for bed, it’s not going to go well for you…
