When to get carpal tunnel surgery

Fortunately, you can fix carpal tunnel syndrome without surgery. Most cases of mild carpal tunnel syndrome, and some cases of moderate carpal tunnel syndrome can be fixed without surgery. The best treatment is to wear a wrist splint at night, which prevents your nerve from being compressed while you are sleeping and unable to control your posture. If the night splinting does not work, then sometimes physical therapy for nerve gliding exercises can help, along with a steroid injection to the carpal tunnel. If you have severe carpal tunnel syndrome, or moderate carpal tunnel syndrome that has not improved with treatment, surgery is your best option.

Six years and I never had follow up with my doctor's that's why, be consistent with your follow up appointments And make sure it's getting the right treatment, I had to learn the hard way..that's my fault for going to work all the time and not really taking care my self so big lessons to learn.. If you know you have that small problem don't hesitate go and seek professional help get treatments done

Mines had it since 2018 - it came back in 2022- and it came back again in 2024 in April..they gave me an injection it works but we shall see..it's only good for three months but if the pain comes back by July or August if not September But I realized it only comes back when you put a lot of stress on it competitive stress..but other than that the pain goes away for temporary don't think it's healed..it's just sitting there waiting 😅 But it does comes back, the best thing is surgery if you can.. otherwise your wrist is just doomed for the rest of your life which is obviously chronic

The L thumb base is also painful. As you mentioned, the big fat muscle at the base of the thumb on the palm is noticeably flatter now. Chiropractioner says it is De Quervain Tinosinovitis. Arthritis specialist said it is beginning of arthritis. Again; perplexing! Please advise.

thank you Dr.Paul for the video.Is around 40-50m/s median nerve speed in the wrist area considered mild or moderate,while the avarage i think should be around 60m/s

You are correct in that 60 m/s is an average number. Putting carpal tunnel syndrome into mild/moderate/ severe is based off of a few different criteria, rather than just the total nerve conduction speed. My CT surgery failed, and now there is increased tingling and numbness in the classic 3-finger+thumb + half the palm on R hand. I'm advised re-surgery. But also told that there is no guarantee it will fix the problem. What do I do? Perplexed. 😞
