When should you get back to skating after an ankle sprain? The number one question everyone with a sprain wants to know. In this video I explain my process with getting back on the board and how to blend training with skating to heal an ankle sprain faster.
In this series I'll be documenting my ankle sprain recovery. I'll be showing you the rehab exercises and other rehab tips and tricks I'll be doing along the way to heal as fast as possible.

One of the worst things about ankle sprains to me is the mental aspect. I feel like even when I’ve recovered physically, the fear and almost paranoia that I’ll sprain an ankle again sticks with me. The idea that another ankle sprain is inevitable and could happen at any moment while skating is mentally taxing.

I feel ya on that but it’s not like your ankles are glass and will do that everytime your out there yk jus gotta be like “if it happens it happens” lol idk it helps me get over that after a sprain and start committing

Fuck yeah dude, it's great to see how far your recovery is gone already! That little bit of info at the end about the neurological connection to your injuries, man, that is so interesting. I broke my ankle a while back, and I swear I still have issues that flare up every once in a while, I'll just be walking and suddenly out of nowhere I get sharp pain. I really feel like it has something to do with the way my mind is, so that was really some interesting insight into how our muscles work with our brains.

I'd my ankle sprained two months ago and back to skateboarding a few days ago. I'm no too confidente yet to get back to do tricks that i used to do befora, but, the main thing that i think that i learned thoses days while i was able to be back, was about process, how it can be tough and how much it can teach you about it. I really felt kind of sad sometimes because u notice that your isnt too good yet but, i've been thinking that's can be the same way when we're learning a new trick, day by day until get it.

So good to see you back on the board so soon Matt. Doing stuff I wouldn't normally do having my ankles good (...for now). Alright, so I gotta pose the question because you've been my skate health mentor hero for over 4 years now and I'm not trying to break your balls... Could it be amended, that where slappy grinds may cause strength loss, when on the road-to-ankle-recovery they could actually help strengthen stability?

Well done on the rehab so far, this is a great example of not sitting down for months after an injury if at all possible, also looking forward to the flick video! The skatepark you showed at the end looks fun, great manny pad for practicing, is it in Barcelona?

Great videos. My friend that trashed his ankle the same day you did is back on his board. He isn't flicking anything and nose slides are out, but he's back. He went back to work in 4 days. Can't keep a skater down.

After you do your ankle exercises, do you ice the injured ankle afterwards? Or do you just rest it? I rolled my ankle while I was surfing and my ankle looked like yours
