She thinks June? Theres a better chance of a hike by then than a cut. Ridiculously hopeful - December is hopeful let alone June.

Mark, I'd love to hear your views on what will happen when rates do level out. Will prices ever really come down or more realistically we are forever becoming one of the most expensive places to live.

I do believe the US also dealt with their sub prime mortgage problem in 2008 unlike some.

Sorry if this has been addressed previously, why can’t Australia have fixed mortgages for the entire term? Ta
@Leo-vk6qm

I think the US govt is some how involved in the lending to the banks which facilities the long term residential mortgages. I don't think commercial mortgages are fixed for that term tho. Also the market for 30 year bonds is much larger over there which helps. I think you can get a 10 year fixed mortgage here but the higher interest rate tends to deter potential borrowers.

Common sense would say upcoming tax cuts plus home equity with increasing house prices is good enough to keep inflation high. I say no interest cut this year.

Housing prices, rent prices , insurance prices, food prices and everything else is currently going up in my world by double digit inflation per year. What do you think will happen when rates get cut??? Inflation will go through the roof!

He says ‘no one would have known at the time’ governments spending all that money during covid was too much! He obviously only listened to the mainstream…. Loads of economists were calling it out! Writing was on the wall.

I was not surprised today CPI went up more than the expected. Rent was one of the main reason CPI up. Why people surprised really. We have a highest immigration number in history. Of course rent gonna push up.

we always follow usa trends surly we and use what unfolds there to our advantage to land on our feet better across the board , dont see cutting rates as winning the race , are rule of thumb for a healthy rate over the past 50 years would be around 7% so it comes down to familys over committing not just when rates where lower but life in gen ie i have $10 so i will spend $15 thought process and than look to blame instead of change bad habits and upgrading stuff thats fine but not as nice as the Jones's .we as Western countries really dont help ourselves

I cannot believe your guest said interest rates will fall this year. Low interest rates have created this massive asset bubble (housing) which has flowed on to rents. Car regos are at record levels. Unemployment is at persistently low levels and we are looking at reducing interest rates????? If you look at the last 5 year window, interest rates are low. If you look at a 20 year window interest rates are very low. The AMP economist isn't even old enough to have experienced a downturn (recession) in the economy while working. I think her politics were evident in the interview. Anyway, I have made a diary note to reflect on her predictions, but if wrong, she has no accountability, so who cares!!!!!!
