AR technology will develop first. More then likely we will develop an Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) well before VR technology. When AGI tech is perfected it will literally be a God of Intelligence. Having not only self awareness, but a processing speed to be able to research 20,000 years worth of Information on a subject, in about 1 human month. Not only will VR be developed with a snap of our fingers, but even things like immortality and interstellar space travel will be possible. Supposedly anyways, the alternative is also possible, in that the AGI (the singularity) will consider humans unnecessary and kill us all, lol.
@VirtualDreamers
@VirtualDreamers 5 жыл бұрын
AR progress is doing pretty great. I'm fully expecting that games along the lines of Oridinal Scale will be here right on schedule, although with a slightly different technological basis. As for AGI, that's basically one of the things that will come from the technological singularity I mentioned in the video. It's basically the only way I'm seeing this stuff being resolved in the near term just due to how much processing is involved in this stuff, unless we get lucky and there's a shortcut we can use or people just get off the brain train and start looking at more reasonable options like the Peripheral Nervous system. I'm withholding my judgment on our chances for getting that kind of AI set up for another few years since we're smack dab in the middle of the time periods where Moore's law is expected to wane and processing power gains/dollars cost to obtain gains starts to kill off progress. Guess we'll be able to tell if we see a major recession/computer industry crash hit us up in the next few years. If we make it past with flying colors though, that smart toaster joke might not be as funny in the next few years.

@@VirtualDreamers I can't speak for the computer industry, but as I am studying to by a neuro physician I can certainly see the near insurmountable hurdles that VR needs. Leaving aside the brain the amount of Information and complexity of the cerebellum that controls motor balance, and the scary amount of reliance the brain has with the Hypothalamus to replicate things like thirst and temp changes in the body isn't a joke. And like you mentioned the age and type of person stops a one size fits all approach. Saltatory conduction of different myelin (white matter) is different depending on age. Older adults inevitably loose this phyislogical feature and thus to compensate the body increases Nerve Conduction Velocity to assure normal compliance. I cant imagine a computer being able to match the correct voltage and amplitude for every decayed or healthy axon, which will be differently mapped among individuals. It's just too much Information for us humans to grasp, lol.
@VirtualDreamers
@VirtualDreamers 5 жыл бұрын
@@fusionvideos6288 Exactly. That's without even mentioning that we don't even have a technology to analyze the brain as well as would be needed in real time to begin with. It's the reason why I mention that I only think the super AIs of a technological singularity world would be able to do it. The VR industry is better off looking for alternative measures to get things done there. I'm almost entirely skipping the brain and going right to the muscles themselves for my VR rig and it seems the industry at large is sticking to motion controls for the time being (though I hope effort still continues on alternative solutions since motion controls may get VR displaced by AR if things keep on their current trajectory)
@VirtualDreamers
@VirtualDreamers 5 жыл бұрын
@Cole Park I hope so. We still have a lot of untapped potential in our current tech, but seeing a us reach an asymptote on our consumer chip progress would be a major blow to the VR and AR industries. As someone who's lived their whole life in the wonder of seeing the steady progress of computers year over year, it'd be really sad to see the great progress stop any time soon.
@323starlight
@323starlight 5 жыл бұрын
There’s an easy fix to that last one. Make sure that the AGI has a fundamental love for life and despise killing and murder in any sort of way. Maybe it can give us a solution to the many gun violences that the government keeps dragging its feet around.

With big corporations and government working on Quantum computing, I can see it coming out within our lifetimes, also keep in mind that VR actually came out in the 90s and was "Ahead for it's time" but it was there and now look at us 25 years. The leaps in tech will be bigger compared to before however it is still a long ways away due to the minimal knowledge we have about our own brains. I believe it will take quantum to get there for the amount of processing power required to make it a reality.

I find technology more interesting. But then again, I could become a doctor, and be rich (sort of?), which will enable me to found a VR company. Seriously though, I NEED HELP DECIDING!

If you ask me i dought conscious full dive is close in near future but , am more than certain in the very near future someone will be able to make inception real , as in taping into a dream and thats way much easier. Un the world of dreams you have a better chance. 1- time scale difference is in our favor as dream world is 100 times faster than real world 2- no body paralyzing is needed its already taken care of by the body itself 3- it’s much easier to induce control via thoughts exchange 4- Since our brain is an electrochemical device i expect the solution would include a certain type of chemical injections especially to insure being lucid dreaming ( dreaming while being aware )

Basically for a brain computer interface to work we would first have to figure out how to combine severed neurons together because there would have to be at least 5 places from which to collect or send information to the brain. The 5 places would be the neck both eyes and both ears, if you'd want the sense of taste you'd also have to collect information coming from that area. This information could probably be collected with some sort of carbon siev inserted in certain areas hrough which our neurons could pass through while sending information to the body. The siev would also have an interface which could tell us which neurons were fired. Using that information we could decipher it and make it so that our physical actions could be cloned to virtual ones. But the biggest thing would be having siev also be able send electrical signals, not just record them. If that could be achieved all you'd need to do is temporarily paralyze the body( like what happens in our sleep) and then just send the virtual information from the interfaces to the brain. That being said all of this requires a lot of research and is way more complex than what I just described, this is just the basic concept with which full dive could be achievable.

That's definitely a better approach. Getting caught up on making the tech brain based is kind of counter productive at this stage so I'm hoping more people take the Nerve part of Nerve Gear into consideration and explore alternative solutions and innovate in the process. A Head Mounted Display gets startlingly close to contestant presence for what it is. One can only wonder what other simple solutions may similarly be laying in wait.

The only difference between Ready Player One's vision of VR and the one we have right now is the graphics and networking infrastructure. Otherwise, we have the ability to create most of that experience right now. Worth noting though that a lot of the experience they show where people are running around and such would be a lot less fun IRL than they show it in the movie if you don't have an omnidirectional treadmill or the haptic suits they show. I mentioned it in a prior video, but moving around in VR, also called "VR Locomotion" is a bit of a problem right now since tilting a stick and other more artificial means of moving around the virtual space isn't immersive. If anything, the experience they show in Ordinal Scale is much more likely than anything else right now and is likely on schedule to actually be a thing in the next few years.

You forgot about some pretty big stuff in there, the main one being Brain-Machine Interfaces or BMI for short. MIT has done a lot of development in recent years and have achieved the point of being able to read and identify brain signals without an implant or invasive action, using a retrofitted EKG cap, and tested manipulating those frequencies to command a virtual figurine. It worked. The big blocker now is how to block out the brain signals to prevent your RL body from moving while your VR one does.

I made this video entirely aware of this stuff. To conflate those genuine accomplishments with anything close to what's needed for full dive is to the first airplanes to Boeing 747s. The engineering discipline revolves around applying science. When someone builds a machine to solve a problem (i.e creating a machine that immerses all senses), they are engineering. We need help from many fields to get this done, but the final job of designing and creating a NerveGear style device would be done by the engineers of the R&D department of the pursuing organization. At this point though, there's deficiencies in so much of the task, every discipline I mentioned is going to be needed to get the job done.

@VirtualDreamers
@VirtualDreamers 5 жыл бұрын
Physics or engineering. Physics will help us create new tools for studying the brain/analyzing. If you want to straight up be involved in designing/constructing the headset, engineering is your jam. I'm studying engineering technology due to my own financial circumstances, but engineering proper is straight up the best path for that. Also check out the hiring pages for companies like Oculus since the positions they list clearly have a directly applicable value towards improving VR. I did a couple of videos on the channel a few years back on the matter "Careers for Virtual Reality" if you want to check those out. A bit old and don't have as much supporting imagery, but they still have good info.

@VirtualDreamers
@VirtualDreamers 5 жыл бұрын
@@Karlos-pn4yo Engineering technology can be done as a 2 year Associates degree while Engineering is a 4 year bachelors degree. You'll have a much higher earning potential as an engineer and much better job prospects. Engineering technicians have lower job prospects and expected pay, but can also graduate much more cheaply and quickly. In terms of the pecking order, the Engineer will be the designer of the device while engineering technicians build, test, and repair it. It's ideal to go for the bachelors degree if you can just due to the increased prospect for a well paying job, but if you're looking to investigate the stuff and want to get something out of your research/work, it might not hurt to get the associates degree. The only way for me to get a bachelors degree in engineering would have required taking on debt and studying basically full time, which isn't something my family could afford for me to do long enough to graduate, so I'm doing the associates since it'll still get me a degree in a potentially lucrative job (engineering technicians average around $60k vs $80k+ for engineers depending on the field), and since the costs were so low, I could afford to work part time and go to school at the same time to make it so I can graduate debt free and with money in the bank. In my particular case, my day job (warehouse work) is in an environment is common for technicians and the experience can help me out in selling myself to potential employers, although I actually have some family connections that may be able to help me out as well. Everyone's situation is different though so if you can manage it, I'd say getting an engineering degree in either electrical, civil, computer, aerospace or something else along those lines would increase your job prospects the most. Engineering on the whole is pretty good compared to many other degrees for repaying student loans if you stick to it since it's a four year degree that pays better than a lot of others while having great job prospects and having relatively low costs to deal with (i.e. Drs have to pay for Malpractice insurance to cover themselves). Everyone's situation is different and you should pick your path after evaluating your situation, but if going to school for 4 years might be a bit too rough, it's at the very least not the worst idea to consider a 2 years trade school or associates degree in a lucrative field while working to have better prospects for the future. If you have a guidance councilor, I highly recommend taking some time to go over the idea of it with them. With hindsight, I really wish I knew what I knew now back when I was a Junior in high school. If I did, I very likely would have graduated over 2 years ago and without having had to pay. Then again, I literally didn't know what an engineer even was properly until my senior year and was focused on art so I wasn't exactly in the right place for the stuff back then XD

I already came up with a few different designs on how the audio might work, Ear plugs and Bone conduction headphones for pretty solid audio. I'm not sure how you can track the arms or which way to go about it, You could put something on your spine or atleast the area connecting the spine to the shoulder blades and pretty much make the signal go to the headset instead of your arm? not sure if this would work tho, its alot more complicated and i still have tons to learn, Great video as always tho.

That's pretty much where things are at. I literally titled my 2014 video (Nerve Gear: Both Near and Far) for that reason, but I'm still at reiterating on it even 5 years later now. It gets confusing going over the matter when lots of people use Full Dive and Never Gear for both the canonical definition and to mean highly immersive VR. One is about as hard as space travel while the other can be had right now if you have the cash for it. Expecting the space travel solution but finding the lesser, pricey experience instead it's a recipe for disappointment.

I think the at it would work would be instead of having to scan the mind 60 times per second, it instead it combines different methods where, not one computer doing all the work, where it lays the ground, and the mind does the work itself, supplying the feelings, sight, smells like it normally would, and the device just ensures you don't move around IRL, in the most efficient way possible without causing trouble. Also need to make sure your internet is good enough, and you computer doesn't crash, if instead of doing all the work, you have the computer make the brain itself do the work, it wouldn't need to scan every 60seconds just make sure everything else is running

This could potentially work, but assumes that our brains will just continue to run the application without being controlled to do so. Focusing on the brain is mailing it far more complicated than it needs to be. Our brain recieve sensory information throw or nerves and tells our body to move through our nerves. Just need to connect to the nerves between the sensory organs/body and the brain. Send sensory information of the virtual world and pilot the virtual body via our nerves. No need to manipulate the brain at all.
@EvieDoesYouTube
@EvieDoesYouTube 4 жыл бұрын
I don't think going into the brain itself will ever be safe enough to be viable, not least because the brain is so densely organised and even nano-wires are going to pack it out and stretch it, but what might be more achievable would be interrupting nerve signals outside of the brain: in the spinal cord, the optic nerve and so on, even to the point of completely isolating the brain from the body. A human surgeon could never perform surgery like that, but a machine could, and given enough development funding, it could do it fairly soon. It's already possible to graft nerves on to a microchip (that was achieved decades ago), so I wonder what progress has been made in that field of research since then?
