This is such an important video. I'm glad you mentioned guys like Kobe who dominated because they had rock solid fundamentals, and not because they found ways to bend the rules. We the fans turn a blind eye to it because we love the game and our team, but like everything else the game has become corrupted in the name of profit. At some point you have to choose between the integrity of the game and it's entertainment value.

I disagree that the game has been corrupted in the name of profit... It's changed because Iverson changed it, all these modern NBA is players working outside the paint looked up to AI, they all modeled their games after him, now you pair that with today's era of "it's the players league" the players are doing what they want, and getting what they want. It just so happens, what they want also increased viewers, and sales. Would you rather watch today's basketball, or 20 years ago basketball? And sure, that might be a toss up, based on bias to your favorite generation of players, but you can't tell me todays basketball doesn't have more flair, dunks, passes, and all the other things that get the fans excited. Now let's ask, todays basketball or the strictly fundamental 40 years ago ball? It's a no brainier... The game has been evolving for many years, it will continue to evolve. I will say though, it's unfortunate the game has evolved to "step back 3 pointers" fucking harden... Aint no god damn step back, it's like 3 steps back, Idgaf when you "gathered" that ball. 🤣

@@brody6634 I'm sorry but I disagree with you...you've sort of contradicted yourself also. If they are not doing it for profit (which I think they are) then why??? Personally, I get irritated watching the games today and have largely tuned off...partly because I less leisure time than I used to, but also because to me, the game looks silly with all the legally impossible moves that have become prevalent. Maybe it is just me...as a side note, this is one of the issues that the USA 🇺🇸 Olympic teams had to deal with and part (but not all) of why the lost so many international competitions. The NBA has changed the rules but the European game is still pure. Greetings from Nigeria 🇳🇬.🙂

I think warriors get away with a lot more in the league than any other team, not talking about carries or travels per say, more about the illegal screens, if they called that I wonder how the warriors and their dynasty would truly look like, especially calling lebron on his travels, I always wonder, thats why I keep my all time list the same no matter what, doesn't mean the game hasn't evolved, just that enabling the rules played a hand

Giannis never got extra points via flopping. The way he bends the rules are far different from perimeter type players who needed to sell the theatrics to get that FT shot. 'Running Dunkman' is the playful gist of it but being able to attack the hoop practically at the effective range Steph/Trae/Dame/others can launch a 3-ball is where it starts. Along with how little strides it takes for him to get to the basket at that distance.

Great video. And you touched on something that a lot of people either forget about or don't realize at all. Professional sports, all professional sports, are, in order: 1. A business. Their primary goal is to make money. 2. Entertainment. 3. An athletic competition. And it's a distant third. They will do whatever makes them the most money, every time, because that's the real game they're playing.

yep! Really surprised Jxmy didn't know this fundamental rule. You can theoretically take as many steps as you want between legal dribbles. In fact, Poole had carried during those 4 steps. So the violation really wasn't the amount of steps between dribbles but whether a carry was used to accomplish this.

Jimmy, I think in the plays where the player takes 4 steps between dribbles you are confusing a carrying with a travel, you can take as many steps as you want between dribbles as long as you are not carrying, even MJ did that frequently especially when accelerating from mid court and in front of defenders to confuse them whether he was going left or right, usually taking an inside out dribble and pull up.

You guys are missing a very important of the circumstances @ 6:42 it's the hypothetical of THAT DRIBBLE actually being picked up. Because you cannot differentiate a dribble or that the ball is being picked up in today's rules. The steps really dont matter here other than to show how it can easily force defenses to misread. The point is just that gives the offense a ridiculous advantage. But yes, this couldve been explained better as well as my explanation Im sure.

Facts! This is why every record is being so easily broken by players of today to the point where previous records don’t even seem that impressive anymore. The game today protects the offensive player so much vs back in the day defense was allowed and rules were strict. I get why they’re doing it though, creating more stars and people like fast paced offense, it’s fun to watch. But what I dislike about it is what it’s doing to the legacies of past players. There are a lot of players today that will pass up a lot of older stars records but some of them aren’t even half as good as the people they are passing up. They just have the luxury of playing in an era where the game is softer and rules favor the offensive player

What do you mean even if he carries the ball. Wouldn't that by definition then be a violation. I believe the point was it has to be one or the other. Either The player doesn't dribble again and it's a travel or he does dribble again and it's cupping the ball. What he can't do is hold the ball in the air with his hand underneath it, take four steps and then dribble again. That has to be a violation, doesn't it?

@GlobusTheGreat
@GlobusTheGreat Жыл бұрын
@@meechtree5795 I'm at 3:44 and I disagree with multiple calls. If we go by NBA rules / how the game is ACTUALLY officiated, including the gather step rule, the high school kid's move looked clean to me, and this Booker move is unclear because we can't see if his hand is under the ball or not when Jimmy starts counting but it looks like he doesn't gather until his '2' step foot is already down (which would be a gather 0-step) so he actually had an extra step to give rather than taking 3 steps. Jimmy needs to watch more BBALLBREAKDOWN harden apologia videos. I say apologia but I agree with the gather step enthusiasts.

KL is one of the best and I have nothing against raptors, but how would you feel if Toronto lost a chip like that? Its wrong, i never want my team earn anything that she doesn't deserve. Toronto would eventually get a chip (as you already did) but could make it the right way. from where i come from fans doesn't even recognize a chip like that, we call it a monkey one, or paper one etc. Hope Toronto eventually get a clean chip some day that you all can be proud of, peace.
