In this video, Steve with Upstart Epoxy shows you what happens when you pour too much table top epoxy resin for your project. This is a mistake that we have made many times in the past. So we wanted to make a video showing you exactly what happens and how to avoid it. It is important to always wear appropriate eyewear and breathing wear as well as keeping a ventilated space in the event that you do pour too much tabletop epoxy. This is why we have worked to ensure instructions are clear and that a one-to-one ratio cannot be messed up like this!

Oh man, my first time working with Epoxy this is exactly what I did. 80oz of Table Top resin inside a 22" wide, half inch deep mold. I'm in Texas so my garage is around 90 degrees this time of year. About 30 minutes after the pour it starts smoking and rising like a forbidden pancake. I didn't know it can start a fire, though.

If your going to double mask, just use a good basic respirator you can buy at the local big box store.

This is coming from someone who’s gone through osha training for spraying isocyanates. That mask you’re using is completely ineffective. The VOCs coming from the fumes will penetrate right through that cloth mask. And that includes that ‘carbon filter’ mask since it’s cloth! In fact, double masking made it less effective. Use a good P95 filter respirator for good protection. OSHA rules also call for no facial hair to create a good seal on your face. Please be careful. You only get 1 set of lungs. Stay safe my friend :)

So if you want to do a thick piece, do yo do it in layers? How much time between layers?

You get deep pour epoxy to do thicker pieces.....I have seen 2-4" done in one our, but if you go deep, you will need to have a fan or 2 blowing on it or it will heat up on you. When done extra deep like 3-4", some use a chilled table to help keep it cool

I have had this happen by accidentally pouring 1/8th of an inch over recommend amount... its no joke.. know your project but know your resin! Consult the manufactures!!!

Hey man, have you ever heard of or seen anyone use a colored transparent resin for a top coat?

Instead of using regular wood to build color-painted stage props that will receive a decent amount of wear & tear over the years getting man-handled in and out of the back of my Toyota Tacoma, I'm brainstorming the idea of instead making solid-colored epoxy "lumber" and building props from THAT!! No painting!! Stupid? Brilliant? What's the worst that would happen to a four-foot 2"x 6" beam of epoxy "lumber" that we chuck off the roof down onto pavement 20 feet down? Shatter? Crack once or twice? Stay intact (minus a few nicks and scrapes)? Epoxy lumber substituting for wood lumber 🤔 If you rated a wood chair's strength at a "10," how might you rate the precise same chair (same sized pieces as wood pieces and all) made from epoxy? Thanks 👍🏻
