You made me laugh, I was an Air Force SP 38 years ago, and the more things change the more they stay the same. I know that it is now SF but for some reason, the guys/gals that get this job always have a different mentality to the rest of the Air Force.

Had a flight chief that was a Tech who showed up to work with a huge glue stain on his BDU's from where he had removed his old squadron patch. Dude PCS'd like two years prior and was still wearing uniforms from his previous duty location that were all faded and had stitch witch on them. One day before guardmount he showed up wearing New Balance tennis shoes in uniform because his feet hurt. He asked some A1C if they had a waiver to wear sunglasses in formation, and the A1C clapped back and asked if he had a waiver for the tennis shoes or his dilapidated uniform. The flight chief immediately pulled rank and said he couldn't talk to him like that. This same flight chief would wait until guardmount broke and we all posted out, and then he would just turn in his weapon and go home. Dude still got his twenty and retired with his full rank and benefits.

I guess he got lucky his leadership didn't care or he was able to shine them on.

@agypsychild Leadership knew how lazy he was. I think it was a combination of them not wanting to do his job, or go back to flight. Anytime we had a recall, or some terrible detail on one of our days off, back office would scatter like cockroaches when the lights came on.

So if I was an officer in that unit what actions could I take to fix that behavior? I have a hatred of leaders who pull rank to abuse their lower enlisted and when I go in as a new LT I wanna be able to do something abt that even tho they’re a more experienced nco who’s been in longer than me.
