Yes! Finally, someone else points out the absurdity of "You've got to learn to like it!" I have always had the same reaction as Wali: "Why in the world would I do that?!?" 🤔

I agree with that, which is why I don't bother with whisky. Pretty much the only one I like is Jamieson, and the fancier the whisky the less I typically like it. But I never had to learn to like wine, or cognac or tequila. I just did. Not to even mention the plethora of sweet liqueurs, and of course, all the many delicious cocktails. Who needs to "learn to like" a piña colada? Puhleez.

Exactly - WHY actually put in EFFORT to become enslaved to a $ pit and ( usually) negative thing for your health, and become just another adult who's living like a middle schooler - has to go along to be cool - ... ?? Now, I on the other hand always liked beer. Not necessarily any and all brands equally. Always, as in, since as far back as I can remember, Dad would let us take sips of his. As a hardworking dairy farmer, he'd have usually no more than 1 or w a day, IF at all, and usually only in the warmer months. Often going days or weeks without any, esp. by my teens when we were much poorer for a while. So, I never had to push past any gag reflex that I know of ( and pry wouldn't have, willingly ! ). I am a very practical gal though and also love yummy food more than drink, so, would always rather save that $ or health or wellness exceptions for something I wanted more, like a homestead or cherries or pudding.

Hey, just an F.Y.I., replacing alcohol with the plant "Kratom" from Indonesia helped me quit drinking. Do your own research on how much to take and the different colors/ strains for different effects. It is even euphoric feeling at the right dose, and no hangover. You'll want to take it on a relatively empty stomach. It's a lot healthier than drinking at least. It can help get you off of alcohol long enough to not need it anymore

I often ask the people who act like there is something wrong with me because I don't drink to cite one good thing that happened to them in their life BECAUSE they drink and that would not have happened if they didn't drink. 99 Out of 100 can't name a single thing. 1 Couple who were raging alcoholics and embarrassing themselves all evening with their over the top behavior, actually said, "We would never have met eachother." Apparently, they met at a college frat party and were drinking heavily. Their description, not mine. That had been over 10 years prior and they were oblivious to the revelation that, in spite of aging 12 years and getting married, they hadn't matured a single day emotionally. They were literally emotionally arrested at 18 and never advanced beyond their college drinking days. Their entire existence revolved around the consumption of alcoholic beverages beverages. Sad, really. The next day, at a breakout session, all they could talk about was how hammered they had gotten the night before, how sick they felt, and how they were the last people from our group left at the club and had "Closed the place down." Nobody in the group was impressed. It was truly embarrassing. 😬

I agree with this man and we are very similar when it comes to drinking. I am 55 now , however when I was in my early twenties my family and I visited a winery. I was able to taste several fine wines, red, white, etc. I didn’t like any of them. The taste of alcohol was just nasty to me. As the years went on, people would tell me to try wine coolers because they were supposedly “fruit flavored “ and “ didn’t really taste like alcohol”. I was also told that “ you have to get used to the taste”. Why? It didn’t make sense to me. Also, I have seen how some people act a fool when they’ve had a little too much. Although a little modest drinking is not wrong, I just decided not to drink at all. To each his own. Or as my ninth grade Spanish teacher used to say, “ Whatever floats your boat, flips your lid, etc.” ( …and a few other expressions I don’t remember)

This was very funny. I don't drink either, and for the same reason, never liked the taste, and didn't get the whole "It's an acquired taste" thing. First time I tried it was Iron City Beer, and it was just so bad. We used to joke that they must take the cooling water from the steel mills in Pittsburgh and just pipe them right on down to the brewery and pour it straight into the vats. LOL! And it is so true, people don't believe it when you tell them you don't drink, and why. And that is what makes this bit outstanding, funny because it is true.

I'm 55 and I've never even tried drinking. I don't understand why anyone would want their thinking to be impaired. Like "I'm tired of being smart, I want to be stupid for a few hours!"

No way! Mad Dog 20/20 was the first drink of alcohol I ever had too 😅

FINALLY, someone understands one of the main reasons I don't drink 😆 Why force myself to keep drinking something gross?

I would understand/not assume why, because #1: I know some fellow Christians who were raised to or now believe to, never have any alcohol. Personally, I can't afford it either financially or with my health issues, and that incl. non-alcoholic drinks, because they're neither free nor healthy (enough for me, currently) either. So, yeah. My hubby likes his whiskey and dark ales but also can't indulge often so water is the norm for us. Esp. when we're out. We can barely afford the meal and tip, I'm not spending $$$ on drinks ( incl. coffee unless we just need it) that I can make for lots less at home, and/or with OG, mold free ones at that.

I used to drink when I was younger! I raised my son by myself and when he got to be a certain age, I knew that I had to be his role model! So I stopped going out but would have a couple of drinks when I went out to dinner. Then I got sick and almost died because of my colon. Then I would take a small drink of alcohol and I would be in the bathroom sick as a dog!!! It is funny when I tell people I don't drink, they say the same things to me!!!! 😂

Mad dog 20/20, Boone's Farm, and Ripple when I was a kid. Probably the same reason I never learned to like the taste either.

I always question when they tell you "it's an acquired taste." Then I don't care to acquire it! I have tried a few drinks where I have to dilute it more. I do drink a little. I don't like Cola unless there is a little (not a lot) rum in it. I had a drink called a "painkiller" but I had to add more orange juice to it. 😧😊 I do like sweet (not dry) kosher wine and I like to have a beer when the weather is hot and the beer goes with the food I am eating. I only had two beers last year, but one hot summer I drank eight beers. 😊

I'm the same, man. And what I understand the least is drinking games. You want to drink, so instead of doing just that and controlling your consumption, you play a game where the goal is to force others to drink and avoid drinking yourself. Then, if you lose, you end up wasted, vomiting, or worse. Of course, it's just a game, you don't have to go that far, but that still adds social pressure and the desire not to lose on top of the lure of alcohol and the stupidity induced by it, which makes it hard to resist. Or so I imagine, because I never tried it myself.
