I do wonder if there's an element that the wonder kids we remember are the ones that were wonder kids in the game but not real life. Going back to the early CM games, I remember the likes of Nii Lamptey, Chris Bart-Williams, Don Hutchinson, John Curtis, Tom Youngs, Ritchie Humphreys etc. I can tell you stories about all of them from "game world", but none of them ever kicked on to that extent in real life. Potentially the roles they play in building your universe are what stand out to us.

I remember a player called Zakaria Bakkali (something like that) wonderkids and never did anything that I remember. Always my go to winger.

Great Video Luke! First of all huge respect for your charity event and your help. As I am a Schalke fan and member since birth I can give some insights to Max Meyers and Balantas career: I've first saw Meyer at the semi final and final of the German U17 Bundesliga and well he was the best player by far at this time. He then soon became a regular starter in the first team at age 18~19 and really developed well. After some time his form went down and he was not a key player anymore. He then got back on track when he was transformed from a cam to cdm (despite being quite small) and he played his best year in this role. But unfartunately, like many of the best talents and players of Schalke in recent years he chose money over passion and went to Palace although he was a fan favourite since the start of his career and Schalke was still a top team in Germany. Part of Schalkes downfall is that Meyer and the likes of Kolasinac, Matip, Goretzka etc all left for free and that many great young players either chose the money or did not get the necessary game time. But thats a whole different story...Since his move to Palace his professianalism went down and he often was headlining the German pendant of the sun because of some wild stories. As a cosequence he flopped at Palace, was ok at Köln and terrible at Fener despite still being one of the best technical players around. Since he is at Luzern he picked up his form and determination again and is one of the top players in Switzerland. Unfartunately he wasted his prime years, his career could have been so amazing! Balanta is a different story: he came in January last season to help avoid relegation but he was one of the worst players in the squad. Terrible passing, no concentration and after every 5 minutes of game time you had to fear that he gets sent off. In our game against Gladbach he had to be subbed off after some minutes because he made 2-3 aggressive tackles and nobody in the stands could believe how he did not get sent off for those tackles. Long story short he did not play very often and when he played he was terrible so at least at Schalke you could not see the talent he once had in the past... I really hope this little insight is interesting. It is always sad when some really promising players dont reach their potential due to different reasons. Maybe you can do another video on some former wonderkids, I would love to see that!

A funny anecdote from Max Meyer: Schalke wanted to keep him , but his agent said "he is a world class player who deserves a world class club, while playing a key role at said world class club" This was before he went to Crystal Palace

Given his first spell at River, Quintero was the most successful of this batch of wonderkids. Though, since I couldn't afford FM14 back then, I had no idea he was a wonderkid (I thought he was a nobody before joining River). With Balanta, I'm still not sure what happened early one. He gained a lot of first-team football in 2013/14, but once Gallardo became the manager, he kind of... vanished.

Lucas Romero performed exceptionally well at Cruzeiro and won two Copa do Brasil titles, which is one of the most important tournaments in South America. He was highly skilled, but the coach didn't often select him to play because he preferred taller defensive midfielders, and Romero is of short stature. Consequently, the coach moved him to play as a right-back. I think this hindered his development as an athlete. However, I remember that the fans always demanded his presence since he was one of the most skillful defensive midfielders playing in Brazil at that time. I believe that if he had played for another team, he would have had more success in his career.

I love watching omega luke and dad the jokes banter and pure bond of them is just nice to see. I would love to see instead of a rebuild.. a debuild where they challenge each other to see who can destroy a club the quickest become unsackable and sell every player they can and rely off terrible youth and lock in the worst reserve players. All the money earned should be gifted to random teams in the worst league. Just an experiment that works the opposite to normal. Would love to see it

I remember quintero when he was playing for Pescara. You could tell he was going to be something big because he was on the ball disgusting but became tarrabt. Had he had more conviction about him and stayed in serie A he would have been amazing

I remember making deportivo the best team in the world and two wonder kids that I remember well was Jesus Mendoza a Mexican striker and Ryan McGurk which I’m convinced was a glitch. I bought this GK from stenhousemuir and for some reason he played about 6 outfield positions but I eventually sold him for more than 100m

i can give some insight about quintero's failure at porto...everyone had high hopes for him, didn't really impressed the first season... Then (mind you it's all speculation) apparently he had a fallout with at the time one of the biggest figures in Porto's Structure (Antero Henrique), after that, he was loaned and never seen again... the same happened with Juan Iturbe that was loaned to Verona i think, before joining Roma... In this case this was public after some time when iturbe spilled the beans
