Definitely. Gozer's choice of using a Sloar as his Destructor Form for that dimension shows it was a powerful creature. The writers of GB:TVG did a great job taking plot points and ideas and expanding the mythology to interconnect the films and franchise.

It will depend if Ghostbusters: Afterlife keeps Ghostbusters: The Video Game canon. But yeah, the video game has the slime being created as a preparation for Gozer. Vigo simply found a way to tap into it.

It's actually from the video game and is related to it's plot, which of course references the first two movies. The story of the game is essentially GB3.

The Video Game is wonderful in that way

they show those scenes in this video, there's no cut scenes from GB II unless you were one of the lucky few to see a Test Screening, but even then the recent Blu Ray has some deleted scenes and there's no extra River of Slime scenes

To be fair, later media portrays that most ghosts like to be in the containment unit. It's more comfortable for the vast majority of ghosts to be among each other rather than mingling among the living.

You're slapping "Masonic" on Greco/Roman (actually Neoclassical), Gothic, and Egyptian architectural design... The freemasons aren't some boogie man, they were/are basically just an architecture fanboy fraternity that bothers the Catholic Church "based on the allegation that Masonry teaches a naturalistic deistic religion which is in conflict with Church doctrine." Plus you're giving Dan Aykroyd a lot of credit for what is actually the work of a whole team of designers (as well as just the actual existing architecture that is present in NYC).

judging by how they are acting it seems a) they are quite buoyant and floating, and b) the river is quite full (it's basically "complete" at that point) so I guess it's not exactly trying to grab anyone anymore, just shuffles them off to the museum.

If you consider the Video Game canon (which there is a debate that it is with Afterlife), yes. Vigo was a Class IV possessor whose spirit had clung to a portrait. When it was taken out of storage, he was able to take advantage of the slime system intended to strengthen/help bring about Gozer.

I think in this case he's more of a side effect. Becuase Shandor did all this, is why Vigo was able to fulfill his prophecy. Not that Shandor or he had any real connections.

I don't believe Vigo was aware of Shandor. His painting was brought up from the basement and he was able to harness the PKE from the river of slime to elevate himself from a Class IV to a Class VII (see our video "How Do the Ghostbusters Classify Ghosts?")

I just take it as a case where Vigo is taking credit for the work of others--and claiming to be greater than he really stands to be.

While the original concept probably was something close to what you said, the Video Game deepened it and developed it further beyond simply Vigo being a slime master. Plus the plot of the Video Game was the last contribution of Harold Ramis to Ghostbusters, so I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it.

@@PjKneisel I miss him, too, but the problem there is, again, Vigo's connection to the slime. Unless he was a Gozer-worshipper, then the slime is most likely an alchemical substance generated from negative emotions. Admittedly, it might not have originated with Vigo himself, but there's no guarantee it originated with Gozer.

I would say the tunnel that connects Manhattan and Queens could easily travel south and connect to Brooklyn/Coney Island. As there isn't much material on what happened with the other boroughs, its hard to give a more exact route.

@@leonardmosca6852 I understood the Vigo revival thing as being a freak coincident that only happened by accident. Like, of course Vigo is going to act like it is fully intentional and "all according to his plans"... but guy just lucked out completely by having a painting with an imprint of him at the "right place/right time" I mean--since he wasn't the one who caused the slime, but is the sort to take credit for work he didn't ever do--it works with his character.

@@NimhLabs Yea I agree, the slime was allowing all of these things to occur, and Vigo happened to be one of the most powerful entities in the city that go a boost from the slime and focused energy, so in lieu of Gozer being repelled he basically took command of the slime as the most powerful Ghost or Ghost-like entity in the city at the time, also the most evil.

yeah that's essentially what the game shows.

The Sloar was the original source of the Black Slime back in like 1940 or whatever and the Gozerian cultists were basically Slime scientists refining and distilling various kinds of Slime and funneling it through various conduits around the Mandala with the goal of summoning Gozer. It's my feeling that since the island sunk after Shandor's death the once bustling Slime production went dormant until being "awakened" by the influence of the negative emotions of the residents of NYC. This resulted in the Slime becoming more negatively charged and propagating (like how the sample overflows from the container in the court scene) and this increase directly correlated to the increase in spectral activity (even awakening Vigo who was in storage before the intro scene with the baby carriage and leaking slime takes place.) That's why we see Vigo progressively get stronger, first Dana saying she feels like the painting is watching her, then we see him smile, then the head bulges out, until finally he shocks Janoz and appears as a full apparition within the painting (coupled with a background of the river of slime). It's akin to when Peck shuts down the containment grid in GB I and the resulting energy burst gives Gozer enough power to wake Zuul/Dana and call Vinz/Louis to Spook Central. Essentially in the first movie the Ghostbusters are preventing the summoning of Gozer from happening a lot sooner. I think even if Peck hadn't shut down the containment grid they would've needed to drastically upgrade it to handle the uptick (big Twinkie). In the intervening time between GB II and the Video Game the Ghostbusters further refine the (drug like) Positive Slime from the ending of GB II into essentially "neutral slime" aka Green Slime, and eventually with Egon creating the PDS. Later in 1991 (the time period of the video game) with the burst of spectral energy at the beginning of the story setting off the Mandala, the since dormant slime conduits started up again and Shandor Island emerged, thus reactivating the Slime processing on the Island again.

It very much was, as Shandor Island has been producing that muck since around world war 2 iirc. Its only around the timw of ghostbusters 2, plus a little push from Vigo, that led to it achieving critical mass and overflowing into the city.

It is not the same place. The river of slime station was filmed on a soundstage and historically ran beneath Broadway from Warren to Murray Street. The TMNT's new lair was a set built in North Carolina based on the closed NY City Hall Station. However, the historic Pneumatic Transit and City Hall Station are both blocks away in real NYC.
