It's the first war movie I saw when I was a kid. I've seen the movie so many times that I almost knew the dialogues by heart. Probably the most underrated war movie in history. A good story, and very well told. What can you say about the scenes on the cable car and the escape on that awesome red bus with snowplow?

I remember when i was young my dad saying you will enjoy this, and by gosh did i enjoy it. Its stood the test of time and is still very highly regarded today as one of the best if not the best war movies ever made, awesome cast, incredible storyline which all adds up. The start of the film when that music kicks in with a sprawling shot of what wee believe is the bavarian alps, hits you right out the gate and does not stop. I lost count of how many germans clint eastwoods character does away with, but what a cast, super deep with talent, including the german actors aswel. So glad it got made and there was no crap like it has to be 2hours. Its as long as it takes to go from start to finish of the mission to find out who the german spies contacts were in britain. Just brilliant. I did not know elizibeth taylor was thare during filming, amazing. A masterpiece. Real locations,

I love it very much because of the actors Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton, the location with the snow and the fortress, and also the scenario which is not the one we expected at the beginning of the movie.

A true classic. In that it has an incredible story line. Amazing cast that work so well together. An incredible location that involved so much hard work to pull off many of the scenes. Unlike the dross we get today that is primarily shot with a green screen. And then there is the film score by Ron Goodwin. What a majestic intro. Nothing comes close. A true classic.

For me one of the greatest adventure movies. yes a bit of artistic license but no matter a great story and yeah at the end of the mission I figure Clint Eastwood makes it with the other lady Ingrid Pitt. A perfect ending for me. The don't make adventure movies like this anymore, great dramatic acting from all Actors including of course the great Richard Burton.

@@wessexdruid7598 Nope, I had no idea! However, I did know that Deborah Kerr was also from Scotland, and she was in another movie I saw with my folks about then -- The Gypsy Moths. Also a great film, although, on reflection, maybe not so suitable for kids. Cheers

Regarding the narrator. This is when English speakers; and American speakers aligned. Since the 1970s, it's changed into something unrecognisably dissimilar;.timeously. As for Burton, Ingrid Pitt got that wrong. He was from Wales 🏴 👉 🇬🇧 In my experience, educated Welsh people, with their musical clarity, speak the best English Don't be fooled by my name, it's 200 yesrs historically. I'm from Kensington and Chelsea, in London; originally. Have taught English in 32 countries. Best wishes; and thanks for this interesting piece of film history. 🇬🇧 🤝 🇩🇪

Indiana Jones-type action long before Indy was thought of. I remember happening on this movie on late-night television around the early 70s and wondering what the name of it was.
@wessexdruid759811 ай бұрын
Ingrid Pitt (Ingoushka Petrov) was Polish-British, born of Jewish parents who spent time as a child in a German concentration camp. She married an American GI and moved to the US - then when the marriage broke up, returned to Europe. Among other parts, she had several roles in Doctor Who - but became a cult name for her roles in Hammer Horror films - her popularity with horror film buffs had her in demand for guest appearances at horror conventions and film festivals. She was also a writer - novels, an autobiography, as well as columns and articles for magazines and periodicals. Not German..
