You need to turn down the gain on your interface/microphone. The volume levels are harsh to listen to, apart from that great review.

I just listened to the song Carolina by Taylor Swift which was about the book and I wasn't sure if its worth reading the book to understand the lyrics. I actually think I will read the book rather than watch the movie because your summary makes it sound incredible and I don't want the movie to ruin it for me.
