Byrne's "Man of Steel" were my first Superman comics. Also my favorite to this day. I read "Death of Superman" and enjoyed it, but it was clear even back then that it was a gimmick. I also like Grant Morrison's and Frank Quitely's "All Star Superman".

Easy for me, 'Born to Run' (Flash, v.2, 62...) great starting point for Flash (Wally) and you can follow just a few amazing creators tell one of the best actual character arcs over a decade. Totally worth it to start at 'Savage Velocity' (v.2, 1) but some people don't enjoy Baron's characterization and the art for awhile is an acquired taste, so I always recommend starting with Waid and then going back to Baron and Loebs after maybe issue 101. By 101 you will love Wally and appreciate the growth that Baron and Loebs developed

It obviously jumps around through the eras but I really enjoyed the 80th anniversary action comics deluxe edition. Great intro to lots of authors and may be helpful for readers to pick a starting point. I'm so hopeful that DC will give us a man of steel omni and a legion darkness omni after the smaller hardcovers are published

"The Man of Steel "is one the best mini series that DC ever made ! And I was glad to pick up every issue ,way back in the summer of 86 .which came out every two weeks that summer ! And the combined series as graphic novel is so sweet too ,and the storyline from the Man of Steel still holds up today .

Great video! Although it’s possible Superman: American Alien is closer to an Elseworlds tale, I feel that it fits in really well with the pre-New 52 continuity (like the stuff they were trying to get back to with Rebirth). Side note: I second the vote for Superman Smashes the Klan and will throw in a vote to include Kong Keenan and New Superman on everyone’s reading list!

Secret Identity is one of my most favorite reads ever. Such an amazing read and sadly I'd had it in my collection for ages before I got to reading it. One of my first reads was Time and Time Again. I was having a tough time at school and managed to find the first issue at my local newsagents. It was a great way to escape from the reality of things for a while and I made sure I picked up every issue of the series (not an easy thing to do in the UK at that time) and to this day its still in my collection. I loved this video Omar. Thanks for uploading it and sharing.

I'm biased, and there is a lot great stories. But in terms of runs.....The Byrne reboot which leads into the Ordway/Jurgens and through the "triangle era".....It's just great stuff. They took everything that was established by the character and really brought the character to life. Not just Superman but his supporting cast: The Daily Planet, Lex Corp, Cadmus, Star labs, and smallville.

Excellent. Solid list. When we're talking Elseworlds, I would suggest Superman/Batman: Generations. It starts in 1939 near the beginnings for both characters and everybody ages in real time. The story goes well into the distant future and was told over 3 separate series that fill in gaps and also wraps time in a time travel story. Byrne kept the actual inconsistencies intact that popped up from era to era and then ignored them as most publishers would have when such things arose and it was a pretty remarkable feat. Highly recommended.

My first Story was Superman 146. I ALso always Loved the Curt Swan Comics. The list for Origins is very good. One Comic that also brings Superman to a wider audience is Supie vs Ali!

Great video as always Omar. Superman is my favorite comic book character of all-time and I've been reading his books since the early 90s. My 1st Superman issue was 2 of them Superman: The Man of Steel #1 and Superman #75 plus the 1st Death of Superman Trade Paperback. Currently I'm reading Action Comics and Superman '78. So many good choices for Superman stories on this list. Keep up the great work as always Omar !!!

Recently id suggest Robert Venditti's Superman:Man of Tomorrow series, its an out of continuity series of stories and a great one about Superman holding the heavens for Atlas so he can attend his Daughter Calypso's wedding, while his friends help by protecting Metropolis, I also like that Superman tries to help Parasite in this series. Id also recomend Kingdom Come. Also recommend Up In The Sky by Tom King.

I'm not exactly new to Superman, but I can't say I've read an entire run. As a kid, I just had a bunch of random issues that my dad or grandpa would pick up, including the infamous Death of Superman. Now, I've recently gotten good deals on a bunch of Superman OHCs (including four Omnis), so this video is still helpful to people like me. Also, I'm 99% sure that a Man of Steel Omni is coming at some point in the future, so I'm gonna wait. The current hardcovers aren't even oversized!

I would say that the whole triangle Era is great. It's all collected on the DC infinite app. Dan jurgens is a great superman writer and is underrated, but there's just a murders row of creators during that Era. Also The whole Joe Kelly and jeph Loeb run is good too.

Can’t really go wrong with any of them. Maybe skip the gold and silver age if you don’t like that era of comics . I think you can read the Byrne hard covers and just keep reading up to flash point. Although I haven’t read it I know the rebirth era but I know people love it, atleast up until Bendis takes over

I started with the Death of Superman when I was 12 back in 92! Read it in the bookstore at the mall while my parents were shopping. Waiting for a John Byrne Superman Omnibus!!! IMHO best ever Superman story is All Star Superman. I prefer Birthright to Secret Origin. Loved Red Son, For all Seasons and American Alien! Looking forward to reading: Up, Up and Away.

In my own personal Head canon Superman's Story has a beginning (Man of steel 1986) and an Ending (Grounded.. not the best ending I know) like an Anime.. beginning and End. And there are a lot of Superman stories in between I liked.. and I loved a lot of pre-crisis Weisinger era as well.

There are a lot of good stories from Superman, bu I think that the better are the ones prior to Flashpoint. I know that there are good stories in Rebirth and Universe but ... most come from before that era, in my humble opinion.

Add Hitman #34 "Oh Thee I Sing" proof that Garth Ennis, the creator of "The Boys" has a grasp of the character. It's soulful, emotional and has a uplift and of course in Ennis fashion, a dark twist.

DC needs to get off their lazy asses, and start being more reliant, and consistent with reprinting these stories in more or better formats. Absolutes, Omnibuses. Would love to have John Byrnes Superman in Omnibuse. As well as "Panic In the Sky" to finish up that "Exile" to "Death & Return" run. Red Son in an Absolute edition.

My first Superman story I ever read, from which I remember only one scene is: Clark Kent is in the office with Lois Lane and another guy who want to hit Clark. Clark want to prevent that this guy breaks/hurts his fingers and with superspeed he put an office chair cushion under his clothes. Does anyone remember this specific scene?

Superman Birthright is way underrated. I loved Smallville and this felt like it went along with that era really well. With Waid & Hitch's upcoming Superman Black Label book I wish they'd reprint this in a deluxe edition.

Start with Action Comics no1, then skip ahead to Frank Miller’s Superman in DKR. The last two are the masterpieces : Peace on Earth and Superman for All Seasons.

There are also a few well crafted “what if” stories. Eduardo Barrett’s Speeding Bullets is good. Red Son has fantastic writing but hampered by generic underwhelming art - that is nowhere near the quality of the art promised by the book’s cover.

Truth, justice and the american way is a code to live by, not the woke crap they push today. ...and the imagination of silver age comics are mind blowing. Luther, Brainiac, Bizarro, Doomsday, Darkseid, just to name a few all came from these comics.

Honestly..... I wouldn't touch new 52, it had some good ideas but the timelines and mashups of inconsistencies were nightmarish. Start with crisis and get to November 2011 where alot of the DC characters actually came to a natural end and you can sit back and be just accept that things end. By all means there are some fun stories in new 52 to read, but I would treat that as an elseworlds as it's a mess, and I'm dying for someone to tell me it's not. DC consistent story telling died at the birth of new 52. But for people not familiar with DC's run from the 80s upto 2011 are in for a treat. Batman although has been great since the 70s with Neal Adams taking the reigns but superman for the most part was meh till Byrne relaunched him.
