Love it! I renovated my fiancée’s parents home years ago and it went from something similar to a gorgeous home on a shoestring budget. This is the real Philippines, not Angeles City.

Thought that you sold your trike! I personally would build a new house on the property,as looking at that structure,you would have to reinforce the lower level to insure structure integrity.God Bless you and your family in whatever your decision

I love it, Brian. It reminds me of when we bought our "Jungle House" and it was just 4 hollow block walls. Now the place looks great, and I'll be retiring in 18 months and living full time in our province house. You're right, just dream a little and it will turn into a house others dream of. You'll throw rocks at the thought of ever going back to Angeles.

Let me give you some wise advice. If they own enough property, you should build a new budget house. Otherwise, tear that crap hole down and rebuild a new house. That shelter is poorly built and the next typhoon will destroy it along with all the money you put into it.

Based on how well that first-floor foundation is, you would be better off ripping up the 2nd flooring and laying down a cement floor and a new roof. Hallow block the walls, run some electricity up there, and some windows (with screens) and a couple of fans. Looks like a good 3-4 month project.

In a word, SHOCKING, hard to believe an American would be willing to downgrade to that lifestyle. If I absolutely had to live there I would knock everything down and start over. Good luck in your new adventure.

"You're going to need a bigger boat!" (Chief Brody - 1975) 😳 The lot looks big enough, so it would probably be cheaper to build a new house next to the existing, and then tear it down the old dilapidated one when the new house is done. ...or convert it into something to better facilitate animals.

@@PhillyinthePhilippines. Jealous? You bet i am! Lol. Perhaps one day, with all that land , could build a small resort, with simple accomodation ( kind of Nipa hut). Area for camping ( bring your own tent!).. going to be great content and a blessing to the family. Think uncle might have his sights on 32 ounce angus beef steak , every night ! Lol joking, cant beat family hospitality, everyone chips in!

Hate malls, hate crowds, hate cities. Province life is the best. Peaceful and tranquil. Compared to Angeles most places are heaven. Go for it and good luck.

As someone who lives in a western modern city, this would be a nightmare for me. What do you do with your time all day, everyday. The living conditions are something out of a shipwreck on an island. And I can't imagine the bugs eating you up all day would be like, jungle life ain't for me..........well, good luck anyway.

My house on samar island is made from traditional bamboo I love it here outside the main village.(I'm from England) I also have a concrete house in the village in case of a typhoon. I think it's brilliant you are moving to the province good luck to you and your family

My standards of living have been modified since moving, but I really don't mind. I do like my ac and private bath, but I realize how little I need to be happy here. I don't live like a villager, but I don't live like a city expat. I prefer cooking outside, I like my wife's relatives being near by, the animal sounds comfort me, and growing my food is enjoyable. I never thought I'd be so happy living a simple life as a young man, but material items just hold no value as I age. I love your little house, and the jungle hut. If I didn't have kids I might live in the jungle somewhere. Keep living whatever your dream is.

A slice of paradise. As long as you have the bare minimum/essentials working (water, electricity, data/internet and working plumbing) before moving in there on a permanent basis. It's province life, it will take time... It will be like a "one day at a time" mentality for sure.

I noticed your foundation post are made of wood. Aren’t you better off starting from scratch and get it to specs? Remember your in a typhoon belt. Those walls would not hold in a big typhoon.

Good for you and your family Brian. We are fixing up a place just north of Iligan City and really liking it here being away from the hustle and bustle. Labor is cheap but re-bar a bit on the high side but all in all will be a really nice place without a high price.

I had the same experience in the dumaguete but it was cheaper and quicker to pull the old house down and start building from the ground up building rooms for my wife and i and rooms for the rest of the family it did take 4 months to complete every one in the family and there friends gave a hand to complete it. We don't live there now were back in Australia now but go back there every year for 2 months on holidays. Brian good luck for your rebuild hope everything goes well cheers mate.,, 💪💪😎😁🇦🇺🇵🇭

It's a big enough area so why not just build your own house , I'm sure being a foreigner you can afford it and a simplistic house would not be too expensive, it's like 2 steps 4ward leaving Angeles and 5 steps back living their, it's needing major changes to live their

From someone that lives out in the province and has for many years it's a whole different way of life but I wouldn't trade it for anything. The only stress I have is what I put on myself. It is a type of monitor lizard that is harassing the chickens or at least that is what we had.

I wish you and your family luck Brian. If it's what makes you happy then you should give it a try. As for me, right now I'm at my wife's family home in the small town of Dumangas, Iloilo but although it's nice enough here I don't think I could leave San Fernando to live here permanently. Maybe Iloilo City at some point in time, but even there I'd miss some of the common things I have at home.

Just a suggestion, add a 3rd floor loft in that attic space for the girls for sleeping and use the extra space for a larger office/lounge area.

Also, Brian you should consider putting diatomaceous earth around the perimeter of the home so that way you have less insects invading your home, especially ants. It is non toxic and safe with people and animals.
