"It just smells like surface cleaner." Well Ollie maybe it is. A Japanese sake factory wasn't selling much due to Covid because all the bars they supplied were shut, so they turned it all into hand sanitiser.

I mean, for Carrotland: A Celebration you guys already tried a Carrot Eau-de-Vie, a type of unaged brandy that preserves the fruit's original flavours. Carrot vodka would probably have a similar smell, but not the "revenge of the carrots" taste - probably closer to Channing Tatum's potato vodka's "earthy" taste. If you guys still have that bottle from 2020 though, a signature drink using that eau-de-vie would be a fantastic idea!

Yes, you can make vodka from almost everything. In Poland, vodka is made not only from rye, wheat, oats, barley, triticale or potatoes, but also from sugar beet, sugar cane, corn, and any edible fruit on earth. ps. A company from Pennsylvania makes such vodka- from carrots.

Looked it up. Carrot Vodka is a thing. "The Carrot Vodka is produced by distilling shiraz grapes and infusing carrot flavours via fresh carrots. The vodka is redistilled in an Arnold Holstein copper to create this fabulously smooth spirit.Jun 9, 2017"

The vast majority of vodkas actually aren't made from potatoes at all. The majority are grain vodkas (the most popular being rye, sorghum, corn, or wheat). Potatoes generally aren't used because they produce a less smooth, more earthy flavor. Pretty much every popular vodka brand you've heard of is a grain vodka. That being said, if you're looking for a sipping vodka instead of just one to mix in cocktails, you're better off finding a non-grain vodka as grain vodkas tend to have less flavor. Ciroc is also made from french grapes which is why it has a fruity flavor.

@@ericktellez7632 Even originally it was mostly made from grains or grapes since vodka dates back to at least 1300s (though at a much lower abv than today's vodka). Potato vodka just had a short time where it was popular during the 1800s when potatoes became an incredibly cheap starch.

I’m a little shocked at the supermarket vs sidemen. I myself have a couple of bottles of the xix and I find it exceptionally smooth compared to other vodkas I’ve tried. It also makes a lovely base to add your own botanicals to for making your own Gin-like (depending on qty of juniper) spirit as well x

I’m really surprised about the Sidemen one. I’ve tried the XIX Vodka and I actually rate it alongside Belvedere vodka. It’s super smooth and not like paint stripper like most vodkas. I’m very surprised they couldn’t tell the difference, maybe I need a trip to Sainsbury’s 😅🤔

Vodka can be made from anything you can use as a source for any other alcohol. It is mainly about amount of distillations (7 if I recall) and filtration. The impurities of source material left give it some taste.

According to Miss Google there is a firm that makes 92 proof vodka from carrots. The firm is in Pennsylvania,USA. Go for it guys!!! Or a least give it a try and let us know what it tastes like.

Lagavulin is one of my favorite whiskys. I love the smokiness of it. I was drinking it neat one day at dinner and my son's girlfriend started sniffing and thinking something was on fire. I sniffed and didn't smell anything and then I realized she was smelling the smokiness of my whisky from across the table.

Talking about Gin and gasoline reminds me of the Italian ENGINE gin brand. It's literally London dry gin "bottled" in tins designed after motor oil tins.
