I transitioned to an electric leaf blower about a year and half ago from using a gas powered Stihl BG-55. I walk you through what I've learned about the EGO line of blowers.

I work for an equipment company where we are an authorized EGO dealer. We sell these units to commercial landscapers who love them, and they also abuse the hell out of them for 3 to 4 hours a day. From their feedback and our experience using EGO products, the 530 is a perfect middle ground option especially for drying a car. I usually towel dry my car, and then I go back through with the 530 to get water out of the crevices. This allows me get at least 4 to 5 uses before I have to charge it. The 580 is also great, but like Matt mentioned it's heavier and not quite as well balanced in the hand. I will admit it's better in every other way due to the power and the battery. So for the OBSESSED it's the no compromises unit. Where as the 530 is a perfect alternative. Think of it as the Mosmatic vs the MTM spray gun. They're both wonderful tools just one has a slight edge. For those saying that these are overpriced and to stick with a corded model that's fine. Just remember that these units were designed to break battery powered equipment into the commercial market. So they're rugged, well made, and meant to be portable. The corded unit is perfectly fine for a weekend warrior, but this is Obsessed Garage.

Any reason you towel dry instead of just using your EGO since you have it anyway?
@whitegoodman7465

Even on a coated car a leaf blower wont get 100% of the water off, you would be there for 20 mins straight trying to get every last drop, same reason matt after blowing off the bulk of the water goes back with a drying towel and drying aid gets the rest. For me the main reason is not get my drying towels soaked with water which is annoying then it leaves a trail of water then you have to go back over it.@@tim0chen

Hi Matt, thanks for the vid , Ive been using the 580 for about a year and yeah it is a little long and clunky , sometimes I remove the the whole nozzle and use it like that , it’s so short and easy to maneuver, this way works especially good when drying the wheels but for the hood and roof it’s better with the nozzle , try it .

I have the 530, and it is fantastic. For me, it’s dual purpose, both a landscaping tool and a car washing tool. The desire for extra batteries has made me upgrade my string trimmer, edger and hedge trimmer to ego. There's a difference using electric (Ego) vs gas (2 stroke) as far the air cleanliness concern. Emissions from lawn equipment are pretty nasty (throttle it up quickly and you get an oily smoke puff), the wind blows unfavorably and that will be on your glass/paint - not to mention your lungs. Filtering compressed air to remove water so it doesn't sit in a compressor tank or tire - sure, but for drying, well, like you said. I started using these Ego blowers to dry cars as soon as they came out, people used to think it was silly. I avoid drying towels, and other sources of 'love marks', if at all possible. They just keep getting better and better, I may have to upgrade to their 650 handheld from my current 530. For batteries, I got the lawnmower which also does a great job, so the fast charger and 7.5aH battery were included. The fast charger only makes a difference on the 5aH and up as far as I can tell. It also has a more useful charge % indicator if you want to start using it again before a full charge - e.g. you missed a spot.

I have a corded one - works OK, but found a better way. :) Because my vehicles as so "dialed in" like yours........ I give them a spray of Griot's spray wax as a drying aid and most of the water just runs off. It only takes one towel to do so. After the car is dry, I use Bead Maker as a Topper. This process works quite well and gives me the advantage of another "coat" . I now don't worry about scrarching or dinging my cars from the blower! :)

Thanks. I wondered if the 5 Ah battery would be too heavy and awkward for a blower since it is the one that comes with the push mower. Seems like I will do just fine using my already owned 5 Ah battery with the purchase of just a 530 CFM blower. Btw, their push mower is excellent if you have a small yard of course. Also, to my surprise, they are coming out with a zero turn riding mower this year. Everything I use and eventually everyone will use will be electric.

I bought a 600cfm corded blower and a 50ft cord, the price of the batteries is what put me off the EGO line. The cost of the 2.0Ah battery alone in Canada is almost the same as the price of a 480 blower INCLUDING the same battery. You basically get a spare blower and charger for $20!

Price wise, it makes more sense to go with the kobalt, lowes has it at @$ 229 with battery and charger. The kobalt is stronger rated at 610 CFM (VS Ego's 580 CFM) but the kobalt 80v is rated slower at max speed of 140 mph (vs Ego's 168 mph), wondering if that 28 mph speed difference makes a considerable difference to justify the $329 price tag..

Hey Matt. Just found out that Homedepot sells 650 CFM as new model. Wondering if you had a chance to try the new one? Weird enough nee 650 CFM is sold cheaper than 580... i am shopping between those two and just wondering if had a chance to compare them. Thanks in advance.

Hey Matt, is using a central vac in a garage as a blower a feasible solution to dry cars?
@ObsessedGarage

That won't have enough output to be very effective.

Hey Matt would the new ego 765 be a better option to dry a car now or the 650 model? I see really good reviews on the 765 but mixed reviews on the 650 thanks

I haven't tried it yet, but it think it will be. The 650 is my least favorite. The operating speed makes a nasty squeal that really hurts my ears.

Have you tried other modern battery leaf blowers e.g. Stihl?
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 5 жыл бұрын
Money no object the EGO blowers are much better than any other option. The parent company of EGO makes most of these blowers for other private labels. They reserve the flagship products for the EGO line.

Money no object, get the ego backpack link. It puts the battery on your back. And runs a cord to the tool. Let’s you use the big batteries and not put the weight in your hand.

I use the 580 5 amp with spread nozzle. Would love a shorter tube, 8 in., with varied nozzles. I added a rubber protection on nozzle tip.

Now if EGO were to make strictly a car drying version of the 530. i.e., shorter discharge tube (maybe 8-10" shorter) with a little more constricted nozzle like the attachment on the 580....

@@Tig-Wan I have the backpack style Ego, it's great for drying a large area, but would be great to have an optional small/narrow nozzle for blowing the fender and light housing gaps.

Question, there’s people who say using leaf blowers to dry cars is bad because there isn’t filtered air. Would you recommend using one of these or a car dryer?
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 3 жыл бұрын
You can filter air surrounding the car, so you don’t need a filter on the air coming from a blower.

Now if you're on a budget would you rather get the 530 with two batteries or get the 580 and forget the extra battery? I don't really see the need for extra battery if the charging only takes 40 minutes.. Matt seemed to be pretty firm on getting two.
@jc304

580 for sure. If you're on a budget I would buy a nice extension cord and a WORX electric. I enjoy the EGO more for blowing lawn grass than on my cars.
@ObsessedGarage
@ObsessedGarage 5 жыл бұрын
You really don't need two for the 580. I should have mentioned that. I always blow off the wash bay and end up doing half the driveway before a wash and often don't want to put the battery back on the charger. Money no object, get 2, but it's not necessary.
