Gotti with Armand Assante is classic. He talks like John, he has that presence too. And I think everyone for the most part hit the nail on the head with their character portrayal from what I've heard and read over the years. Travolta just went for the cliche gangster stereotype. I honestly got all I needed from the previews of the film. Gotti with Assante is epic albeit on the low budget side. Travolta's film, God bless him, was a missed opportunity.

Compare and contrast to Mr. Gambino. The man who said, "Put a shade on it" about adultery. The man who lived modestly. The man who insisted not to bring any heat onto anyone. The man who enlisted his own wife to soften up visitors with hospitality, home made treats and kindness? I think that the rot began with Paul Castellano. Cuckholding his wife with a housemaid. There is something imperious and selfish about such an act. The idea that Paul demanded so much, that he "ate alone". Mr. Gotti should have shown respect... and been discrete. Nobody has a "public".

Movies & docs make it seem like it took a week. Listen to the Sammy the Bull podcast & you will hear the fed say how long it took. Also, it's funny how Gravano talks smack about Gotti's mouth when it was Sammy's mouth that got him busted for drugs in Arizona several years later & got him a 23-year sentence.

Michael, Gotti 1996 is my favourite movie of all time! Armand Assante was incredible. As for Gotti 2018 the best line of that movie, which I hold dear, is the one you quoted "Titles don't honour men, it's men that honour titles". Bang on. There what life is all about. When you take responsibly for anything, that's what matters. Thank you Michael as always for your content and work!

I’ve seen far worse in my decades as a movie buff. And as Michael says, some of the father/son scenes were decent. But yeah, it was def cursed from the get-go by financing, production & distribution issues, and later by Travolta’s flat-ish, “forced” performance. You get the feeling while watching it that the director and producers tried to make the end product seem raw/gritty (handheld cameras, muted ‘70s-style colors, etc) - which can give a low-budget film a certain authenticity that larger productions sometimes lack. But instead, it mostly came off as just cheap, if not borderline amateurish.
