@@osmangazi-313 That is what i also want to know, but everyone seems to duck the question. I have tried Solution Finish on the black plastic beside the passenger windows that had distinct grey areas, and guess what, not one bit of difference. All these products on the market are for the more porous/rough plastics, but i have not found one that works on the smooth plastic. They all claim they do, but i am yet to find one. If you have found one that works, would love to know, it's very frustrating not being able to find a product that works, and expensive. Cheers.

Great content as always. Any chance of using one product as a sort of yardstick for future tests? It would be good to see any new product/s compared against a known constant. In this instance, seeing the results compared against something like CarPro PERL would give us guys who already have it an idea of whether it’s worthwhile trying something else when the bottle runs out.

Hi John, before finding your channels in the lockdown I did some research on trim restorers. I have indeed purchased a couple of the 30mm Solution Finish bottles thinking they would be no good. I put mine on my Mini R56 07 plate and put more that 2 coats on the it’s has indeed turned the grey back to black and is holding out 8 months. The trick is when doing a good wash to quick wipe over to with the product to bring the depth back. Works well in engine dressing too. Thanks Markas

I’ve just used a very very small amount of patination oil on the plastic trim of my Honda crv, it completely turned the plastic trim back to the original colour. I immediately coated it with meguiars plastic trim restorer to ensure the patination oil was diluted asap. So far the two panels haven’t shown any degradation due to using a solvent on them. I’ve left it for now to see if there’s any issues as patination oil is for use with lead flashing. The amount of patination used was a cloth put over the bottle top and wetted with the oil, tbh you could probably use less. If the solvent is ok for the plastic the one bottle would literally last a lifetime

@demelitia
@demelitia 3 жыл бұрын
Figure out where the moisture is coming from. Yes it’s damp and cold, but a cracked window is usually enough to stop steaming up. If it happens to an extreme degree, or immediately when you get in your car, there’s a good chance you’ve got a water leak in to the cabin. Different cars have different known problems so you’ll have to google that yourself. If you run your AC, be sure to turn it off, turn the heat right down and then vent your cabin with the window open for the last 10 minutes of your journey otherwise you’re leaving all the moisture on the condenser. This usually evaporates up through your vents and fills the car due to latent engine heat once you park up. A 1kg bag of reusable silica will help too.

Topping Solution Finish with a coating such as Gtechniq C4 after 24 hours (and after panel wiping) gives great results on trim that's notoriously difficult to bring back from faded grey. Some old Minis and Hondas benefit from this where a trim coating alone is ineffective.

A bit late now but I wonder what a second coat would have improved the longevity if applied, say, 2 weeks after the initial coating. This can also improve tyre blackness as the rubber tends to be patchy after just one coat of dressing. I'm old school and the dreaded Armor All used to need 2 coats at least. After that a single light spray did the job.

Hi Jon, I'm noticing that on the rear section of the bumper where you applied these products, pin holes in the surface which would indicate that the black section has been painted. Is it possible you've put trim restorer over paint rather than actual raw plastic ? I can't see how raw plastic can have those pinholes unless it's been painted. I come from a painting background and I can bet that it's been painted, and a bit hastily too. Pin holes are from silicon contamination and the surface wasn't properly prepped before application.

use a pure abrasive finishing polish to strip it off. nice soft pad.. one very quick fast set like 1/4 of a bonnet at a time 30-60 second set. Do entire car in 30 mins. Degrease... done. hitting it chems wont strip it. You can just leave it and it will slowly wash and erode off the car.

Solution finish is so easy to apply and level. It didn't caused any issue on painted surfaces, just wiped off with a microfiber after the application to remove it. And results were really good for the plastic it was applied to. 10 years old motorcycle with 100k miles, never protected and always sits outside all year long. 6 months later you can still see a big difference between test spot and unprotected plastic. I think having the combo good plastic dressing (carpro pearl diluted 1:1 or 1:5 for me) to protect and enhance on a daily basis, and a trim restorer which is more of a special product, used on restoration of really trashed pieces. For a non profesionnal, i would buy the small bottle. You would have to do a lot of car to use the 1oz before it goes bad (because most detailing product go bad after a few years). It really spreads a lot, and lasts 6 months on worst scenario. Last thing, these products react differently depending on the type of plastic in my opinion. Some would look like new after the application, some would look better or slightly better.

Hey @forensicdetailingchannel I waxed my car today with collinite 845 liquid for the first time and it was so easy to apply and remove, however I noticed my wax applicators sponge absorb allot of product and came out on the other side and when I washed it out I realised how much product was being stuck inside the sponge and being wasted in these cheap sponges do you recommend a good wax applicator you use? I haven’t done any research on the pads available but there needs to be something that stops products coming out the other side and one that absorbs less so you can use most of your expensive wax on the car rather than washing it out of the sponge. This would also make a cool video or a shot out on wax applicatior. Thanks in advance Jon

you can just use a thinner foam. Or pick a close cell foam structure that is less pourous. Ive done a few videos on wax applicators. For this reason closed cell foam would be more usefull. If your really interested you could speak to someone like lake country because more of their foam is closed cell. It really spread a lot, and last 6 months on worst scenario. Last thing, these products react differently depending on the type of plastic in my opinion. Some would look like new after the application, some would look better or slightly better.

Nice test. I find faded trims the most annoying of all things to clean and tidy up to make the car look decent.

I’m with you on that. I use C4 for properly faded plastics to bring them back to new and then use carpro perl for maintaining less faded stuff.
@AntEloftheHouseofEl
@AntEloftheHouseofEl 3 жыл бұрын
@@simonwhalley1743 pretty much exactly the same here too. The only difference is, if the plastic is very badly faded, I will heat it gently for a while first. Also found this is a brilliant technique for tyres. Heat them, treat them with whatever tyre dressing you use (for me thats Perl or Fireball) heat them gently again to dry out the dressing and keep the tyre warm, apply another coat of dressing, let that dry naturally for a while then buff back gently. I get literally almost ceramic levels of water repellency on the tyres then and the coating last for bloody ages!
@AntEloftheHouseofEl
@AntEloftheHouseofEl 3 жыл бұрын
@@gaycha6589 I tend to use a heat gun and just be very careful with distance and making sure I dont keep it in one spot too long. A hairdryer will work too, but take longer to heat. But it is safer though. The idea though is infrared drying lamps, such as those used to speed the curing process for ceramic coatings.

your website does not work tom, Im saying this to help not to critise.. go to mad for detailing then click Exterior then like wheel and tyres of engine bay (doesnt matter). Just throws up a long error regardless of what I select. I went through every link presented to me on page 1 of google when I search for black pearl trim and tyre armour and I cannot find anyone selling the product, even all the amazon links are out of stock. @@ForensicDetailingHi thanks for the reply the error is a FB app we are trying to add which is causing errors on our product pages and categories pages as for stock we are now out of stock and waiting for a new formula which should slightly less money and improve the durability this why amazon is showing no stock as you say in your video the strong solvent scent with both products is not good, but with BP you won't get any of nasty smell as its only water and polymer-based we hope to new stock to come early next year
