This video is wonderful. I have been a postpartum RN for three years now. I tried labor and delivery for three weeks at my hospital but I couldn’t stand all the interventions, nurses laboring two moms at the same time, and the constant prioritization of doctors convenience and hospital politics over the patient desires and wellbeing. After my time there, I knew I would never choose to birth at a hospital. I have decided to pursue the CPM to free myself from hospital regulations. Hospitals are a big business and ppl often forget that.

Thanks for your insight! I have 9 years of experience working at an OB/GYN office as a labor induction coordinator (I have a BS in Biomedical science) and I've seen so much from that perspective and doctors scheduling inductions for non medical reasons-many are failed and end up as c/s. I'm also a birth doula through DONA and it has further solidified my calling as a midwife. I'm heavily considering CPM v CNM as well. I think midwives are able to truly practice under the midwifery model of care with less push back in birthing centers & home settings than in the hospital. What schools are you considering?? Bastyr University Masters in Midwifery program is #1 on my list it's a MEAC accredited schools. Our communities need us 💜🙏

Azalea Salter I live in Texas and am planning to use The Association of Texas Midwives Midwifery Training Program. It’s a completely distance curriculum with 2 years attending births under a preceptor. The midwife who owns the birthing center nearest to me used this program. She was also an RN previously. This is considered a direct entry route. The cost of the entire program is about $10,000. I don’t see many WOC taking this route in my research I’ve been doing. But I highly recommend it due to the low barrier of entry. I do not want to finance any more of my education. Student loans are a mess!

@@CindyChioma I'll defintely have to look into that program! Is it MEAC accredited? I just did a Zoom meeting with an admissions advisor at Bastyr and found out they have an amazing new grant (hasn't been named yet) for POC and academically challenged applicants that'll cover tuition cost.

@@herbanhomestead Thank you for this video! There are so many myths about midwives. I've been protecting my aspirations from naysayers. Gotta stay focused! The long nights and births will all be worth it. Prayerfully, I'll be applying soon 🙏

As a woman who wants to become a certified nursing midwife I think for me it’s about the freedom of the career of why I want to chose it. I absolutely love my fellow women and babies but if I want to work as a simple nurse (RN) I can heehee 😂😊 I have to start the first step. I know this video was so long ago but I couldn’t help but comment! ❤

Let’s support our midwives, and not these poor imitations, no matter how dirty the house.

That sounds amazing to be so much in control. I had a hospital birth and was TICKED that the nurses were telling me to not push when my body was trying to push on its own. I yelled at them "someone just catch her!!" I had an overall good experience, but there are definitely things I want to do differently next time. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Definitely will be attempting the standing squat position... In the hospital! Do you know how your CPM accepted payment? Was she allowed to accept insurance?

HealthyWokeMama Good luck to you! The CPM I used could take some insurances, but not all. We just paid cash for those births. Our CNM could take all types and we had very good insurance at that time so it only cost us $200. 😳

i think it's quite risky to have births with CPMs tho.. I mean what if you're one of the women who have preeclampsia, placenta previa, you'll never know if you have these if you don't go to like a real midwife, a CNM or doctor... and those tests are done for a reason, to protect you, and your baby, so none die- something that actually happens a lot in America... I understand and respect how you feel about women and their bodies and their ability to give birth, but you have to understand that these women have been through hundreds of births by the time they're allowed to be with you for your birth, so they probably know the kinds of complications that can arise, and that's probably why the rules are so much more stringent...

A "real" midwife really? All midwives who have certification are real midwives. Doiii. If you'd actually done some research before commenting then you'd know that if you have any of these conditions then you're considered high risk and ineligible to be a client to a CPN. And yes they do test you for these conditions, even though they're not "doctors". Google is your friend sometimes.

And had you done some research you'd also know that mothers and newborn babies die at a much higher rate when treated by a physician rather than a midwife.

Why do think that they die at such a high rate in America? Because physicians will put unnecessary stressors on the mother like administering drugs to induce birth well before the baby is ready to come rather than just waiting it out for a healthy outcome. C'mon you can't be THAT brainwashed. You can only wonder why so many women are now looking for an alternative to hospital births.

CPMs don’t care for people that have those issues. They ARE the REAL midwives. Long before the CNM was created, traditional midwives have held the knowledge and carried it through the years. Your comment just shows that you have some educating to do.
