I was under the impression that you needed to use every number at least once (and only once) for the math section. For the first one you can get 628 with all numbers by doing [(100-75+50)*8]+25+3 for 628 exactly. For the second one you can get 853 with all numbers by doing [(100-2)*8]+75+3-9 for 853 exactly. Garnt actually managed this in the third round so props for that. Of course there are most likely multiple solutions that use every number once and only once but those are the ones I was able to come up with.

So just for a quick history lesson: Countdown is actually an adaptation of the French game "Des Chiffres et des Lettres" which is exactly the same thing but in French, it also exist in other european countries like Italy where it's called "Paroliamo" which all are derived from the original French game, so it'd be the other way around that Grant said, that is the fact that it exists in other countries & that's the Brits took the concept of a french game

Ha thank god they mentionned "des chiffres et des lettres" at the end, Was thinking about how they talked about countdown not being in any countries, meanwhile that show was something my grandma used to always watch so I'd seen it a lot after school while waiting at her house for my dad to come get us when he'd be done with work. And it's just a very well known tv game in France. Wouldn't say the most popular outside of older generations, but still well known.

I wish i was online when this started, or was happening, period. This was fun and I love testing my smarts like this, as I'm not in university or anything scholastic really, so there isn't a need to be testing my intelligence atm. Lol also when the spelling bee was taking place. I played it honestly, by myself after it was posted and edited to the channel and did pretty better than I thought! I honestly got a lot of words except for 2-3, and they were French words but also at the ending of the game. So they were arguably hard. But being in the US, and hearing English around me is different cause they speak multiple languages or at least have it around them. Im also a polyglot, so i thought that maybe those hints of language pronunciation has helped me with the phonetics of guessing the words that they got. Although some are tricky, Im still proud I was able to get them.

So, the moment you guys started doing Countdown, and showcasing how it works, I realized that we have it in Serbia, but under the name "Slagalica" (which translates to "Puzzle", like a Jigsaw Puzzle), and it has those three segments, plus some other ones, like associations, and whatnot.

For the first math one, I did 8*3*25+75-50=625. So I was shocked when Joey and Garnt both were like "oh, yeah, definitively start with 8*100 first." Like, I tried many different steps to get close, but 8*100 was never one of them. XD
