Hi Ms. Lori! That rain falling sounds so soothing! It’s still hotter then blue blazes here and on top of that the air quality is poor do to the fires. The air has a yellow tinge to it. Cannot wait for rain and cooler temps. I pray we get rain. We’ve been in a drought on top of the other mess we have going on. Your fall garden is going to be wonderful! Can’t wait to see everything growing. 😊 I’ve never heard of cheese squash. I hope I can find some around here. Squashes-all but especially butternut, spaghetti, and acorn are my favs. Praying everyone at Whippoorwill Holler is doing well and that you had an enjoyable visit in Texas with your family despite the unexpected sadness. Thank you for another great video! Xxoo

If you like beet greens, I find Early Wonder beets are great in Winter for greens. My Winter is probably milder than yours. I had family in Hart, TX long ago and seem to recall you all get snow and hail. I've grown the beets in 15 gallon tree pots, which are moveable in a freeze. I've grown parsnips in the pots too. Another good green (to me) is the Minowase diakon radish, added fresh to a salad. Now. If I could only get French Sorrel to grow, but I'm lucky if I can get one or two plants to grow a year.

@Kay Murphy, I love the rain, that makes me a pluviophile, Lol. Many folks, including myself suffer from inflammation, sometimes from arthritis and other conditions. The rain and humidity brings on much pain and discomfort for chronic pain sufferers. I can see how one would dread the rain as we know how it'll affect us. I can no longer hear the rain, unless it is coming down hard but I love seeing and smelling it. Some other folks experience loss and damage to their homes due to flooding so I can see how expected rain brings on anxiety for them. Today, I learned from another channel's subscriber that heavy rains overnight caused tragic flooding in Tennessee, I believe, so they're in need of prayers right now. Rain is beautiful and needed but it can also be quite damaging, but I still thank God for his mercies.

Yep. My garden struggled too. Riverside County, Calif. Between heat, drought, and insects... it didn't have alot of chance. I'm grateful for what I was able to harvest though. Praying we will get good gentle rains for the land, gardens, and crops growing in Calif this Winter. I tend to grow more root crops than you all seem to. I usually have a 4' X 6' leaf lettuce bed, and a short-day onion bed (using Dixondale farms plants). Hoping to get some brocolli and other brassicas too.

i"d love a root cellar as long as there is space to sit down there. We spent a half hour waiting for the tornado sirens to pass the other week and were just in the basement waiting with flashlights in hand. Had two great-grands here. Their daddy had the other sibling at their house hunkering down in a makeshift shelter in their basement about 15 miles from us. None of them touched down around here, thank heaven!

Miss Lori can you please show us how to cold storage your root vegetables over winter time so that you can have a big crop and they'll keep through the winter time... please and thank you. Do you put them in crates on top of straw and let him sit there all winter long do you have to rotate them how do you go about that? My grandma's I had root cellar, storm cellar, but I was little and so I didn't get the opportunity to learn how to do that. Now I'm 61 years old and I'm looking to buy some land as soon as I can and I want to start Canning, freezing, dehydrating and growing a garden and doing the things that I learned to do from my grandparents. Thank God for grandparents! Dee, I'm an old Georgia-Florida native but I had the opportunity to live on the east end of Long Island for a year back in 1975-76...it's beautiful country! It reminded me a lot of home with the farmland (never seen the likes of the size of those potatoes since!) and the good folks that lived out there...til Memorial Day, that is. 🤨 When the city folks come out for the summer it was like living in an entirely different place! My stepfather was stationed at the USCG Station at Montauk Point...what a beautiful coast and lighthouse! We lived in Westampton temporarily until the house they were building for us was finished. It was in a community outside of East Hampton...Springs.

This has been my first year of actually being able to keep my herbs alive (I'm learning to be more mindful in my middle age, lol) so I bookmarking this video for when I have a bit more confidence in my gardening skills :)

I was very young when my great grandmother and grandfather passed away in the 70s she still used kerosene lanterns or what they called coal oil , she had a wood cook stove and she always canned, sometimes she would let me go in the fruit cellar that’s what we always called them but it was actually built into the hillside it was always so cool inside of it.

I enjoyed your Fall garden talk. I planted carrots and peas today for part of my fall garden. I would love to see how you eat that swiss chard!

Thank you! I live in Canada (in a city that records the coldest temps on the planet). I can't imagine a winter crop unless it's in a greenhouse. Still that greenhouse has to be industrial for the amount of snow and cold temps we get. I really enjoyed this video. I only started gardening veggies a few years ago and didn't even know I could plant a second time - as most of what I planted was ready to pick by July. Anyway, thank you, Miss Lori. God bless you and yours.

Try clear totes with extra coverings. Hot manure not touching food will also heat. There is information on the internet on how to.
