I live in a condo (renting) and I save ALL my seeds from EVERYTHING! Drives my hubby crazy but you should see my balcony! I have cherry tomatoes, herbs, different kinds of lettuce leaves for salads, an apricot and apple tree growing, catnip, raspberries, mint, and succulents. Who said you can't garden in pots on a balcony?! Love it. I do miss a backyard.

Hello Miss Lori... I was just out on horseback collecting Mullein blossoms growing wild on my land. It’s always a pleasure to come to see your shows and get a boost of reassurance that I’m not the only one out foraging for remedy ingredients. One of the things about this video that makes me smile is all the pollinators flitting around your garden. And zinnias are my favorite annuals... Thank you so much for sharing you life, your thoughts and your garden with the rest of us.

I just love your videos! I lost someone very dear the night before last. To be able to get into one of your longer videos, without thinking about my loss, was much needed tonight. Again, thank you for all of the great content. It's all very useful information that you provide. I'm inclined to believe that we are going to be needing homestead skills in the very near future. I don't have a farm. I do garden and I do have a very large cache of long-term, food storage. We are as prepared as we can be. Keep trying to encourage people to be self sufficient.

Ohhh so yummy, Mrs. Lori!! I just love those "bean bean" tortillas. I've never made one. Mr. Brown's cinnamon and suger ones made my mouth water when he bit down and we heard it crunch! Your zinnias are so pretty and I love the way zinnias attract butterflies! It always makes me alittle sad when everything gets droopy at the end of summer but then the bushes and trees start to turn beautiful colors in the fall for one last burst of color before they go to sleep for the winter. Thank you so much for sharing your homestead life with us! Every one of your videos makes me smile! I love ya both!!

Ms. Lori, the press you use was made mainly for making corn tortillas. Although I may try using it myself to make mini tortillas. Also a fried tortilla is typically called a bunuelo. I make bunuelos and sprinkle it with sugar and cinnamon or coat with a simple syrup or any kind of syrup. Very common to make during Christmas time within the Hispanic communities and in Mexico. 😊

I always thought that a tortilla press was primarily for corn tortillas. I would use with flour tortillas, but only for the shape, and I would continue rolling them out by hand. I also use lard instead of liquid oil. I found that the liqued oil made them 2 wet. I love homemade tortillas!

Ms. Lori - these do look wonderful, but as I'm not a big lover of a typical savory tortilla's, I have to say that Mr. Brown sold me when he took one and added the butter, sugar cinnamon onto it and then that crunch as he bit into it....YES!!!! 😃

Over the past couple years I have learned to forage for a few things and Mullein is one that I have been looking for. I saw it for the first time while my husband and I were fishing and he was so gracious to pull the boat to the side of the lake and grab me a flower top. I saved the seeds to plant next year. Also, a side note, I lived in Pasadena for over 30 years.

A year or so ago, I had just shared my sourdough starter with my SIL, she fed it in the morning, and left for church. She returned home, and text me a picture. She had sourdough, jail break. It had escaped its bounds. was oozing its way across the counter, running down the front of her cabinet, and puddling on the floor.

Miss Lori, if you use 2 pieces of parchment paper over and under your tortillas as you roll them out you won't need any extra flour and moisten your hands with lard or water as you roll them in balls it will keep them moist and create steam as they cook, cooking the inside of them as well. Get yourself a comal to cook them on and you won't have to use oil. Plus they will last longer without oil, because unless you freeze them right away the oil on them will go rancid.

Mrs Lori, this was just the video I needed. My husband passed away last yr, but now the clouds are dissipating and I'm carrying on. Got a veggie garden going this yr. and some more chickens since I lost 3 out of the 6 I had this spring to fox. We had too much rain this yr so the garden wasn't as much of a success but it's only me now so I dont need much. I know there are a lot of people out there having difficulty filling their pantrys and was hoping to help them out more like I do with my extra eggs. I didnt have the time or motivation to collect some mullein so I ordered some. Needed a refresher on making the oil. Also i have some particularly pretty coral pink zinnia I want to collect the seeds from. I love your channel. I feel so peaceful when watching. Blessings from my little homestead in Maine, Rose

The extra thickness I’ve freezer bags, gives you the adjustable thinness you’re after!!! One top & bottom, 2 bottom/1on top, 1 pad & 1 freezer bag, will give you All the thickness to thinness you want for Every kind of tortilla!!! Hey Miss Lori, you are SO right about saving seeds. I let one of my Armenian cucumbers go to seed because my local nursery where I get them every year is now permanently closed. I started saving other vegetable seeds at the end of each growing season because I believe as you do, that the day will come when we will not be able to buy the things we need to live every day, including many food items. AND I just love going out to your garden to see what's growing! We love fresh tortillas and I love my tortilla press, too! The first tortillas I made looked like pancakes! 😂😂😂 Mr. Man and I love our sourdough too ( especially whole wheat sourdough) but never heard/thought of making sourdough tortillas...awesome idea! Thanks again for bringing something new to all of us! Have a blessed and restful weekend❣️

Thank you Ms. Lori. Another great video.❤ my grandpa gave me some seeds after my grandma died. They were hers. Some of them were a wild flower mix the coneflower eventually took over the flower bed. They were beautiful. Along with those were the mullen flower. I use to think they were just a noxious weed. Years later I learn how wonderful they are. I dry the leaves and make a tea which is good for cleaning out your lungs. Always think of G&G when I see a lone mullen growing .❤❤

Bless you Miss Lori and Mr. Brown. I find seeds that were kept in bags, bowls, fridge and envelopes. Some are from fruits that aren’t planted in this zone; a challenge maybe in thought to do? Love the sour dough dough for tortillas. I’ve done masa tortillas and do have a recipe for corn homily, masa, yet to try. These are inspiring as my sourdough try in a distant past wasn’t successful; old adage try, try again. With your recipe and this one I will. Loved the dance in bare feet. I get earaches more now as an adult. It’s weird. I didn’t know mullein would help with that. If you have plenty of the seeds, I would love a few. So sweet to offer if you have extras. I like to take my dry zinnia heads and scatter the seeds in the yard. I do save some for direct sowing.

I learned how to make tortillas at around 10-11 years of age. My Dad made an outside grill with a flat iron top for us. Tortillas made on mesqite wood are the best. For that matter anything cooked on a mesquite wood fire is great. I used flour, salt, shortening and water. No precise measurements used (that's how i learned to make them). I rubbed shortening on my hands and then on each ball. Put the ball in a little bit of flour, roll out with rolling pin and then continue with my hands. I would make the large tortillas - from the elbow to just over the hand (sobaqueras is what they are called in spanish). Now i just make small ones on a griddle on the stove and then we have quesadillas for dinner after I'm done. Nothing like homemade tortillas. Love watching your channel. Thanks for the memories.
