It was strictly for flavor, to show that the place was deserted and wild animals felt at home. It had no combat stats and started to slither away slowly. For the next half hour, the PCs meticulously planned, strategized, killed it with one blow, took its fangs, skinned it, and prepared it for cooking. You never know what's a throwaway encounter and what's not.

as someone who watched campaign 2 before campaign 1, it's an honour to meet the infamous door

Sam is one of the best D&D players I've ever seen. He's on top of his abilities, he's on top of other people's abilities, quick with math, quick to help others with math, has a good grasp on the rules, takes a quick turn, knows how to be a team player, knows when to goof and when to be serious. And knows when to leave the bear.

So Percy had a sword for like 3 years now and the only thing is has ever cut is a friend.

If you had a pepperbox pistol, in other words a series of connected cylinders, fired off one barrel to make it hot enough to scar, and then pressed the fired barrel into someone's flesh; it'd leave a central circle, flanked by two mirrored crescents. Taliesin, that was masterful.

Now that the animated special gets to be a series, with a significant portion involving the Briarwood arc, we NEED one entire episode devoted solely to the epic door battle.

I like how Matt seems to be playing with the theme of *Vampirism.* Not only do vampires have to physically feed off of people by drinking their blood, but but this group of vampires are feeding off of this community by steeling crops, and literally draining the life and vitality from the land.

I love how in the span of like 2 episodes they went from “we’re just gonna get intel and come home because we want to be good while the council investigates” to “rip out his tongue and send him running while you leave the mutilated corpse of one of the lackeys on the porch of his burning house that bears his DeRolo logo”

The Vox Machina animated series led me here. The troubles that Vex, Percy, and Scanlan have with the door is even more hilarious now.

Watching back on this, I realized one of my favorite part of this episode: Keyleth around 2 hours in: Are you okay? Mentally? Percy: Absolutely, not great, but I'm not surprised. I'll be reasonable, I promise one combat scene later: " You're soul is forfeit" woops ahaha

Campaign 1 Taliesin: I have this curved POS scimitar that I have never used. Campaign 2 Taliesin: Creates character who dual-wields scimitars.

Percy is so much darker than I was prepared for. He’s the antithesis of cad. Tallesin amazes either way.

I love That moment at just shy of the 3 hour mark when Liam has just read his assassinate feat closely, And seeing his eyes light up at the concept of dealing over 100 damage in a single round. Rogues with arch type assassin are disgustingly strong during surprise rounds. And I love every second of this mans joy.

Travis' laugh at 3:05:29 after Taliesin's "I'm a good boy" is unbelievably refreshing after the amount of previous fudging throughout the start of this campaign

in my first campain we encountered a good wooden door. it took us 3 spells, 5 rounds and a nat. 20 to open it. on the other side was a gateway with a strong wooden door. we turned around.

Sam is SO good at playing a bard. He absolutely nails the support role.

I love that Sam actually looked too scared to look directly at Taliesin when Percy started freaking out.

Percy’s arc has been so fantastic, it’s hard to believe people call this sub-par storytelling

Lowkey Grog is like Scanlan's partner in crime whenever they want to use slapstick comedy.

I always see SO many people dumping on Trinket, and Laura for her lack of using him. On others for not knowing their spells by heart, or for not knowing a monster from it's description, etc. I thought maybe someone might point out a couple things. Trinket was useful in Pathfinder. A tank. 5e turned him into a plushie. 60 hp. At this point, that makes him tissue paper, and his attacks aren't worth losing one of HER attacks. But the MAIN point of Trinket is simple, and I think most people, who see ranger companions as just another weapon, miss it. Trinket, just by BEING there makes the game more fun for Laura... and several others (Sam not included perhaps, although I think he'd miss the good natured ribbing he gives Laura over the "leave him at home" idea each time they leave). Isn't the point of the game to have fun? If thats the goal... doesn't Trinket fulfill his purpose? He's not just a tool for Laura. Not a weapon to be used and discarded. You may run YOUR ranger like that... she doesn't. This is a group of casual gamers... They are not min-maxed. They don't really know much about the mechanics (because they don't really CARE about mechanics). They just want to share a story and have fun.

Watching campaign 2 before this, I was led to believe by comments and offhanded comments of the mighty nein that Vox Machina were amazing heroes and acted much more honorably and overall a lot nicer than the nein. After this episode I am surprised and excited by the fact that that is not always the case

Wow, that was brutal. On one hand, "boss fight" with an unlocked (but barred) door. On the other hand, Percy's demonic possession, enemy torture and mutilations. Funny and dark together.
