This is from the end of episode 80 the Raishan-fight. This fight went really poorly and this moment kind of sums up the whole fight. After this fail things start to go better.

Since no on answered. Basically this moment was a representation of how the whole fight has been going (really shitty). No one actually said a metaphor, but it naturally occurred. This moment (that represents how the fight is going) just happened in a 'fell into your lap' kind of way. So, "hey, look a metaphor (for how this fight is going)"

@@adonyx1 Based on the squares on the table, it doesnt look like she took enough space for a running jump as you need a 10 ft run-up, she only had 1 square, so 5 ft. To clear 7 ft without a runup, she would need atleast 14 STR. (I have no idea what it was at the time.) Otherwise she had to make a check.

I think there is another segment of this episode in which Marisha (Keyleth) is trying to lift Liam (Vax) to safety in her FIRE ELEMENTAL FORM and almost sets him ABLAZE when he is either into death saving throws or super low hp. Which is kinda of in character for her considering she seems to annihilate people she likes, loves, or even just bystanders by accident. I legit almost spewed pepsi all over my computer when it happened.

The game is one huge abstraction. If you are looking for realism, there are plenty of games designed for it. D&D is not one of them. Nor should it be. The game would probably be less fun if you tried to make it make sense. I am a fan of increasing the damage which falling and lave cause, to make them greater threats to players. However, that is a GM choice. Not everyone wants to run or play in a super realistic game.

@@ezrablock3218 I like to think that part of what allows them to become superhuman is the magic of the world. Magic can alter people's bodies permanently, so I like to imagine that magic subtly gives people to ability to go beyond normal limits. After all, if you push your body it will respond to compensate for the conditions. If you're in a magic world, where the magic can alter the body and many other things, and lots of dangerous creatures or people are trying to kill you. Since magic resides in small amounts of every living thing, I like to think of it as a sort of limiter removal.

@@copycrow4486 this is really late but for a standard game i use that magic permeates the world which is why grievous wounds heal up after a single night of sleep. +Guy Smith No, more like he doesn't want his own fiancee to lose her character over a single roll like that, because he knows how hard she would take it and he doesn't want to hurt her just because those are the rules, while at the same time he knows he would cheapen the game and everything they've done so far if he _doesn't_ follow the rules. It was a deeply personal dilemma for him, and that showed in his face in those moments. Remember, falling into lava is perma-death, as he explained at the end of the episode. (And the fact that he took time to explain it proves that's what he was concerned about.) If there is no body, nothing less than _true resurrection_ will work, and they've never met anyone in the campaign who is powerful enough to cast that.

I always let the characters choose for some tasks, if they want to do it with Athletics or Acrobatics.. Here, also two things could apply: Just jumping with sheer power, but more likely for her character, with dexterity and technique.. I just remember doing Judo as a kid, I wasnt very strong, but after mastering the roll, I could easily jump over several people.. Much farther than an strong person could do

Aren't they playing 5th ed ? If they are the ruling here is wrong, you do not need Athletics check to jump on 5e,only if you want to jump more than your normal jump distance and pretty much everybody jumps 1 square normaly.

If she has a running start (move 10ft before jumping) she jumps a distance equal to her Str score, she could easily make that distance no checks required. Without a running start she jumps half her Str score, Keyleth has a Str score of 14 so she was OK anyway.

You do realize in the dmg it clearly states the “rules” are guidelines, and can be changed to however the dm wants. They homebrew, and in real life, an unathletic person can’t just jump a 7 ft gap easily 100% of the time.

Yeah I know what it says in that module I also know what it says in DMG in Improvising Damage section. But the most important information is what damage does it deal in Matt's game and that is 20d6. He ruled that since some incident i don't remember in which somebody has fallen into lava and taken little damage and community then plagued Matt with how he shoul up the lava damage and so it now does 20d6.
