Yes unfortunately! You have the 4 you can see then you have 4 more under the face plate down deep! Sorry to give you the bad news, but it's not too bad just drain the water down below the skimmer install new gasket then line your face plate back up with the liner holes and skimmer, just take your time you got this!👍😊

It depends you would have to look at the instructions that came with your model and brand but trust me both ways work!!!!👍

My liner was less than 10 years but had multiple holes poked in it from my kids, liners are supposed to last around 10 years but I've cleaned and replaced liners that were 20 plus it just all depends on how they are kept up ,quality and thickness of the liners! Thanks for watching!

That's interesting I've never seen it done that way? How would you get your liner lined back up because you would have screw holes in the liner from installing the skimmer just seems like its adding more steps then necessary? We have always done it this way with no issues but I am interested in what your saying is that Hayward specific because I know they have different installation instructions then pentair and swimline etc, Thanks!👍

@@WhitehouseFarmVet I am by no means a professional installer, just a DIY guy. I just replaced my first liner a few days ago, but haven’t got the chance to cut and install the skimmer due to all the rain we have got. The Hayward skimmer is one of the top sold, but there are a lot of other companies making the butterfly gasket for it. From my understanding the butterfly gasket sole design and purpose was to make a complete seal to prevent any water from leaking behind the liner to the unknown eye. To properly be able to guarantee no leak behind the liner, the instructions call for liner to be tucked in (sandwiched between the gasket). As far as the steps, it does seem repetitive to reinstall skimmer a second time. I suppose you could place the gasket in the wall, trim the liner from outside the pool, sandwich liner inside after trimming, then install skimmer. Myself I would feel more comfortable cutting with skimmer attached to decrease any errors of cutting. Great tutorial, I just wanted to catch someone doing it on video before attempting myself. There are so many variations of tutorials, I’m not sure which one to do lol. I do know when I removed my old liner, the previous installer had sandwiched the liner with the butterfly gasket that was installed on my skimmer.

Ultimately doesnt matter. Especially on pools that have the stainless steel inserts at the skimmer and return.

You can but it's not necessary if anything you can upgrade your pump for more flow, so if you have a 1hp pump get a 1 1/2 hp, but I find a 1hp pump on this 27 round does a great job!! Thanks for watching!!👍

You should have 2 holes in your pool one which sucks the water in and goes through a skimmer and through your pump and Sand filter/cartridge then back into your pool through a return!

@@WhitehouseFarmVet as of right now my pool came with one larger return port & two smaller intake ports which are connected to my pump. But the skimmer I’m installing came with a separate piece for a return. Every video I’ve seen they just gloss over this piece. Am I supposed to install this directional eyeball piece near the skimmer & split off my pressure side hose to feed it?

Do I need to install the gasket between the wall and the liner if I have installed foam on my walls

If you installed that 1/8 foam on your walls I'm assuming they give no direction on how to deal with skimmer and return! I had to fix multiple pools where the wall foam was used! You have to make sure the foam is cut back from the skimmer and return in order to get a proper seal!! So many pools I dealt with were they didn't do this and had anywhere from a slow drip to constant dripping from foam and not a good seal!!!!

I get this alot, this is true for some manufacturers brands you have to follow the instructions that come with your specific gasket set, different manufacturers and brands have different style setups and installations! Example, all should come with a total of 3 gaskets!! Some are 1 cork, 2 rubber, or 1 paper 2 rubber, or 1 cork, 1 paper, 1 rubber, or 3 rubber etc, also different install placements such as 1 inside pool, 1 inside liner/pool, 1 outside, or 1 rubber inside, 2 rubber outside, or 1 rubber inside 1 rubber then 1 paper outside etc etc, you need to follow the instructions for whatever specific brand you buy!! Just rouble shooting but, Did you make sure the gasket was lined up and the screws went through the cover the gasket,the liner, the pool wall into the skimmer holes?? Make sure all the screws are in, make sure all the screws are tightened down but don't go crazy it's plastic so you can snap it too tight or strip it!!!! Instructions differ on brands so follow your return instructions that come with your return!

No water gets in! follow whatever brands directions you have, they all have there own way of installation!

Make sure to drain the water below the skimmer, should be easy fix!

I've installed pools for 20 plus years you only need to wait until you have enough water to cover up the bottom seam on the cove!!! You will never have a pool installer wait around all day while paying a crew to wait for someone to fill their pool with a hose that's just not practical!

@@WhitehouseFarmVet. Not practical for an installer to wait, although he could come back for a 5 minute job. On the other hand if the owner can install it then he could wait.

Homeowners definitely! But what your not taking into consideration is that it's not a 5 min job unless the customer lives next door to you! Alot of installs are an hour to 3 hours away so time driving out, time driving back!!! So you have to pay your guys for that time plus you still have to install the skimmer paying for time there, and also don't forget hook up the connections and hoses that go to skimmer and pending if they want ball valves hooked up which most do to be able to shut the water off going to pump to be able to service them! It all adds up time=money! Like I said it's just not practical and I don't know any installers that would do this! What the internet tells you and how things are really done are two different things! The liner will stretch fine as long as you have water up to the seam around the cove and this is done to assure no wrinkles in the bottom of your pool! So yes DIY Homeowners can wait, installers it's done once the seam is covered!!

I am now watching your video to see if the liner goes inside the butterfly gasket with the wall, or outside it. Very confusing and Hayward doesnt provide much instruction. Thanks for a great video. I wouldn't say do it your self not to do this, but your right you do need a certain amount of water in your pool before cutting!!! The pool liner manufacturers suggest having enough water that your lower seam which runs the entire length around your pool to be completely covered, this allows enough pressure to hold your liner down and against the wall, if you are not sure or you feel it's not pressed against the wall enough absolutely take your time and let it fill more it's definitely not a race and your right no need to rush! But anyone can do this, so do it at your comfort level! Thanks for watching and have a great summer!

Yes it is, this is the order! 3 gaskets total- Return Nozzle > Rubber > Liner > Wall > Rubber > Cork > Nut Follow these steps and you will have no leaks and correct order!

Absolutely wrong dude. So you have two rubber gaskets sandwiching the pool liner. That is not the way it's supposed to be. Should be return nozzle rubber gasket pool liner then the second rubber gasket on the outside pool wall followed by the Cork and then the nut

Yes the return nozzle has 1 rubber gasket then you have to place the 2nd rubber gasket or cork or paper depending on which brand return, in between the liner and the wall then push the return through the hole and put you 3rd gasket on with the nut! So yes this is what I was trying to show hopefully that makes a little more sense it's tough to text to explain but let me know, thank you!

I know alot of people get confused on this part especially when there are many different brand manufacturers that have all different types of gaskets but just think about this there are 3 gaskets each has there own place to be, why are you putting 2 gaskets together on the outside!!!! Just food for thought I know I cant convince you if your stuck on 2 gaskets together on the outside, if that works for you then good but it's not the right way I have done literally 1000's of pools for multiple companies over 20 plus years and everyone has done them this way! You can even Google it if that helps, I do appreciate what you are saying though I like good discussions like this! Thank you!👍

It just depends on what make you have , I know hayward directions does it the way you are talking about and some pentair and other brands have only 2 gaskets, some other models use cork or rubber etc, thank you for watching!👍
