Who Blew the Horn in God of War 2018? This is a secret that no one in the God of War community knows, and the developers will NOT tell us... In this video, I've presented 5 scenarios as to what and who could have blown this horn (but there are literally hundreds of theories, so tell me yours in the comments). But, we're not just focusing on who blew the horn, but what happened when Atreus became unconscious... Some very strange events transpire which are very strange which could tell us more about who blew the horn, and it's a great conversation to have! Who Blew the Horn in God of War? Faye was Thor’s half sister, on the giant side. She got into a fight with him while drinking and talking about what Odin had made Thor become, nothing more than a weapon, and things got heated. It’s why Thor didn’t kill Faye and never spoke of it again, because she was still his sister. This has nothing to do with the horn but it is interesting and things start to make more sense when you know this. Edit: Athena was already confirmed by SMS as a vision in Kratos’ mind, she didn’t actually show up.

It’s interesting that when Kratos put Atreus on the boat, the Muspelheim tower was glowing red while the other tower in the shot wasn’t. They deliberately panned the camera towards the Muspelheim tower and then to the other tower in that scene as a hint so I’m pretty sure the changed weather had something to do with Muspelheim, the source of primordial fire. Atreus must have some deep connection to primordial fire which he probably got from his father who got it from his own deep connection to the Blades of Chaos in some way. Surtr confirmed that the Blades contain primordial fire. This would mean that Baldur must have a deep connection to Niflheim somehow, a source of primordial ice and cold, in the similar but opposite way to Atreus. Baldur's death caused some sort of a major imbalance in the source of the primordial elements which caused Fimbulwinter, similar to Fimbulsummer(?) if Atreus had died. It all seems to fit together.

yeah i think i can add something Baldur was cursed by his mother and the spell when he got the mistletoe in his hand faded away in a blue colour. we know that the muspelheim tower had somehow activated and what if Surtr had a talk with the snake? OR like he said there wasnt anything about atreus death, so what if the world knew that if atreus would die it would die? I mean there would be no ragnarök no jörmungandr maybe not even a paranoid odin. I mean because the muspelheim tower glowed there could be a posibility that it activates after atreus death and the worlds destroy themselve? i think i went somehow wrong here. Because the tower glowed there probably came Surtr through because he felt how the world was about to die and wanted to ask the snake or to bring his wife his last message

There is an odd thing that bugs me and I would like to mention it here, if the person who blew the horn did it so that he or she could speak to the serpent wouldn't we suppose to hear Jormungandr speak, I mean he is a giant serpent and whenever we talk to him in game his voice echos hard and so if the serpent and the horn blower engaged in a conversation, I believe that his voice will definitely be heard across Midgard. Am I wrong?

Here me out, but my theory on who blew the horn would be Loki. This would be Loki probably after he has found and recovered all the giants from the different pantheons. I don't think it was Baldur because remember, blowing the horn summons the world serpent and you would have to know its language. Jörmungandr speaks Jötunnic, aka the language of the giants. Hence why Mimir said he's one of the only creatures left that speak it since 99% of the giants are either all dead or hidden. Atp Mimir, along with Hræsvelgr, were the only characters left who spoke it. Later on, we see Atreus pick up on Jörmungandr's language throughout the game and show knowledge of understanding it. So how would it be possible for Loki to even be present during the same time his younger self is sick? This is where it starts to go in a direction of just predicting what the next game would be and how it connects back to GoW 2018. The gist of my theory on the next game is we're gonna play as Atreus traveling to these different pantheons to find the lost giants. As time goes on, Atreus would grow up into the true god of mischief, Loki, and have different experiences on his journey. We already know time travel exists in the series when Kratos took control of the loom of fate and sent himself back in time to the point where Zeus killed him. Well, what if one of the pantheons Atreus goes to find the lost giants is in Greece? Based on Tyr already traveling to Greece, the vase with Kratos on it and Tyr's panels, we know humanity has rebuilt atp and is recovering from the desolation after Kratos's wrath. So while also looking for the giants, Atreus could travel to Greece and learn more about his father's past. Eventually, if this is the case, he would encounter the loom chamber traveling back in time to the point where the horn was blown. So why would he blow the horn then? Greece could possibly be one of the last pantheons Atreus travels to, meaning atp he is older now and years have passed. Maybe in his current timeline, he travels back to Midgard to find Jörmungandr dead yet he needs answers from him somehow. So he decides to travel back in time to the point where he knows he is out of his father's view, the point where his younger self is sick and unconscious, by using the loom of fate to find those answers and change an event that had already happened. *TLDR* - Atreus/Loki blew the horn and traveled back in time using the loom of fate in the Greek pantheon

2 problems though. 1. In Ragnarok, we have seen Atreus called the World Serpent without using the horn, as well as at the end of the fight with Baldur. So Future Atreus doesn't really need the horn. 2. In the Greek Pantheon, Kratos killed the Sister of Fate so that he could time travel. Now it would be impossible to time travel in Greek Pantheon since they are dead unless there's the new Sister of Fate which is quite possible.

Could the Red Skies and overall feel of the world suddenly dying simply be because of a Time Paradox, or multiple at once? I mean, if Atreus dies, Jormungandr is never made, Ragnarok doesn't happen the way it's supposed to, and the stress of that probably starts to form cracks in the World Tree, the same cracks made during Ragnarok, which allowed for Jormungandr to skip through time

I think Atreus and Angrboda are gonna be responsable for many events, like the release of skoll and hati and atreus surviving Ragnarok. When he wakes up, Skjoldr asks him where is his head injury, and after realising there is none he says that maybe he confused Atreus with someone else. This is a very weird dialogue that I only noticed on my second playthrough. I even think they are the ones who are going to send the serpent back in time, because if you look closely, there is a yellow magic right at the final moment. Its giant magic, different from the Thor's electricity.

My theory with the atmosphere (which in my theory is separate from the horn) is like that because at this point Kratos is imagining things. He's going through a Very dark time. He's even begging freya at her house.. this is uncharacteristic of him because in any other situation he'd just kick down the door and tell her to help. He's about to lose his second child.. keyword second. (And ironically his fault) He lost his daughter and wife to his own hands in a fit of rage because of Ares in Greece with war and fire in the village. When his world was torn down.. him hallucinating Athena proves he's thinking of his past. Not to mention Mimir doesn't comment on the atmosphere at all.. I would assume if he commented on the horn he'd comment on the fire in the air. C'mon he comments on everything but not that as if it's *not really happening?* I believe that Athena and the atmosphere is in his head and a mental recollection to when his wife and daughter died and his world was burning down like that village.. He's about to lose his son and already lost his wife a second time and his world feels like it's burning again. The horn just happened to happen I feel. Possibly because at this moment whoever blew the horn knew kratos and atreus would have been in only one place. Time travel is a thing here so maybe it was Atreus maybe not but whoever it was I bet they blew it then because at that point they knew kratos and atreus wouldn't be in the area. Or maybe I'm wrong. A second theory is maybe something was happening with the yggdrasil tree causing Muspelhiem to bleed through? Possibly could have been Ratatoskr needing the serpents help? I mean that's a possibility? Not very story driven but I don't know. Out of everyone he'd probably know the ancient tongue.

So I know it’s a weak support but I’m banking on the theory of Atreus dying possibly creating a different fimbulwinter affect being true. I think the red ash in the atmosphere had to do with them being directly in front of the Muspelheim tower since the tower next to it on the right, being Niflheim, didn't have any red particles in the air. It could be something else as well but that's my guess. Also I don't think it was Athena. She wasn't physically there in the boat or in front of Kratos's cabin. It was all in his head. If you recall back to that scene, Mimir even later says "I had already guessed you were Greek. Athena? Dead giveaway" which implied he couldn't actually see her when she was on the boat and in front of Kratos's home. Plus you would have to know how to speak Jötunnic, which is the language Jörmungandr speaks, and idk if she does. Maybe she could've learned how to after reaching a higher existence? Who knows but regardless these are theories which is the fun part haha

@@_Wizzo actually now that I think about it man you could be right and I could be wrong. When asked if he implied that it was Baldur that blew the horn back in 2018, Cory Barlog responded by saying "everything is a misdirection... the real answer has a clue hidden somewhere out in the world". What he means by this is the idea of Baldur being the one who blew the horn is merely a misdirection since it would be blantly obvious if he did to get Kratos's attention. But notice how after he says the real answer could be a clue hidden somewhere out in the world. This for sure could be in reference with the change in the atmosphere and the red ash you picked up.

@@WillofGodwin ...Wait, that makes me wonder, what if it was Surtr? He's a Giant and would quite possibly know the language He's in Muspelheim, the tower that was visually reacting. And we should also keep in mind he's connected to Ragnarok, because when the time comes HE IS RAGNAROK. The fact the atmosphere has changed to be volcanic with ash and red particles, the fact the Muspelheim tower is reacting so clearly and they are obviously putting attention on it for a reason, all those "clues hidden in the world" clearly hint towards Muspelheim. @@Mike-ku8mg True, it's hard to really come up with a logical explanation for it without having to dig pretty deep into things. The entire thing is speculation from the start, but at that point you're effectively speculating about the speculation, which is rather complicated. Maybe he sensed the change in the balance of Nature or something when Atreus got too enraged and lashed out like he did? Surtr IS half of Ragnarok, a Force of Nature, so maybe he is more perceive of alterations to Nature itself? It would make sense in a way. Then he could have gone and called the Serpent to ask if it knew anything about it? Again, this is all super hypothetical speculation, but I think it could make sense to a degree, it's the closest I've got for why Surtr would have called the Serpent.

Funny you mentioned Athena. I had a theory about it being her but I dont remember if it fits with the timeline, perhaps someone can tell me. My theory is perhaps this was when she was making the mask (if it was she that also opened the realm tear in Odin workshop) Odin was needing a way to peer inside it and Athena needs a way to get Atreus there so Kratos would ultimately follow. She had the mask inscribed with ancient languages that only Atreus could work his way through and decipher. Perhaps she needed the Serpent to figure out how to put the languages down on the mask in the most efficient manner to make it so Atreus would be the only one to make sense of it. Then broke it in three, hid the pieces and made sure Odin was able to find one piece. This would be a cool tie in for Athena but I dont remember if we were told how old the mask was.

It could have been Angrboda or Atreus that called Jörmungander. In North mythology jörmunganders parents are Loki and Angrboda. When Atreus is in jotunheim in grylas house he saw a soulles snake, then he took a marble and put the soul from the marble to the snake. When he and Angrboda meet again, she said that the snake was growing bigger then normal bigger. The snake probably hid from Odin like the giants in jotunheim. When he is as big as he is now he doesn’t hide, instead he’s looking for his parents somewhere in Midgard.

It was baldur. 1. It had to be someone that knew Kratos and Atreus were very recently there. Modi would have reported back to Odin about what happened. 2. We know baldur is who odin sends to track people. Odin says as much...says baldur was his "best tracker" and "closer" 3. Baldur can travel between realms freely with Odins ravens. 4. At the end of the game, baldur says, "i thought hurting the big snake would draw you guys out" showing he has no fear of him. 5.Baldur did not know where freya was...as at the end hes shocked to see her...which if he knew where she was he wouldnt have been suprised. So it would have played out as such...Modi runs home to asgard to report to Odin what happened, Odin then sent baldur to find them via his ravens...Thor beats the crap out of Modi for making him look weak to Odin and his whole family...baldur arrives in midgard but since atreus and kratos are protected by freyas stave baldur cannot find them...he blows the horn to lure "the big snake" out...intending to do what he ultimately ended up doing at the end of the game...jormungandr comes to see who it was...saw it was baldur and decided to just leave...knowing a fight with baldur would be pointless...baldur cant die and jormungandr knows he wont be killed either as he has memories of surviving until Ragnarak and is pretty much just waiting in midgard until then.

It’s an interesting theory, but I don’t think any of the people mentioned would have blown the horn. Cory Barlog, who was the game director for God of War 2018, has said that “whoever blew the horn, is someone who was/is looking for Kratos and Atreus at the time. Who that person is, is someone he doesn’t know but will answer in the future”. Honestly Cory is trolling us all, but there is something to his tweet that might hint and indicate a potential sequel game. I think whoever blew the horn at the time, was someone who knew Jormungandr and could speak their language, potentially Atreus/Loki from the future. I’d make sense if time travel was involved here, because it was confirmed in Ragnarok that a younger version of Jormungandr was sent back in time, to later become the world serpent we see in God of War 2018. Angrboda wouldn’t have blown the horn imo, because she was hiding in Jotunheim following her mother’s prophecies. It is only after meeting Atreus/Loki that she decides to make her own destiny, and help Atreus/Loki in Ragnarok, adverting the original prophecy she was not present in. In conclusion whoever blew the horn, is someone not from God of War 2018, and not anyone mentioned in this theory. I like the similarities of Atreus being sick/dying the reason it all being so red at that time, a potential opposite Fimbulwinter, but I still believe it is related to whoever blows the horn later. If someone from the future travels back in time, it can have dire effects on the present. Things could change and take a different approach that could lead to worse outcomes. When Kratos returned to the Lake of Nine later, everything was fine. Whoever was present there at the time when kratos went home for his chaos blades, is someone who went back to their present time, the future. So until Cory decides to answer this question for us, we will be getting a lot more of “who blew the horn” content in the coming days/months/years haha. 😂✋

12:46 I think it could be Athena or the Egyptian god in the comics with the bird head (the only reason why i think this) is because the creator of gowr said maby one day we would reveal it(why keep it so so vague???) Unless its leading to something big? Now what would Athena or the Egyptian god not know the jourmie Does I don't know but we don't know who jourmie was before he was the serpent so maby he was a very special/important giant

None of the five, it’s Atreus from the future, the particle effects are from him being transported back or forward in time (depending on when he came from) and he arrives back at his house which is why it’s centered on their home. Time travel has been hinted at length in both games it has to come in to play at some point and this is most likely that point

That’s my leading theory too! I think we’re going to get an explanation for this in a future title, I definitely think it’s Atreus who blew the horn because I don’t see anyone else knowing the language apart from the giants themselves.

I think it’s because if Atreus died it would of caused a paradox so him being on the brink of death caused reality to basically tear its self apart ? Without artreus there would of been no world serpent right ? Perhaps someone could sense it and blew the horn to see if it was okay?

idk about y’all bout the ashes gave a vibe of god of war 3 like kratos’ old ways of rage. the muspelheim tower becomes more glowy but only the symbol which is red, all I saw was just the filter called kratos which is like kratos’ view like old ways vibe. idk bout that whole sequence just felt like it was just old ways kratos the entire time from atreus falling sick till he finished killing the draugrs at his house with the blades. when he comes back with the heart if I remember correctly the ashes aren’t there anymore. its just kratos in his moment of gow3 times and nothing more. if you check the photo mode and go on kratos filter you’ll see that it enhances reds and reduces other colors a lot. I don’t think the ashes part and shit has anything to do with atreus. Mimir didn’t say a single word about ashes. nobody mentioned about a storm as well so I don’t think that atreus was doing it. Remember how brok was all panicky when we killed baldur and we came back from jotunnheim because fimbulwinter started. at the moment boy was ill and not present brok was blank faced and was just confused why atreus wasn’t there confirming that only kratos or the player saw it like that in a kratos filter.

I’m starting to think the person who blew the horn may actually be Faye but from an earlier time. Similar to the serpent, Thor may have punched her through time. Why make that fight between her and thor such a huge side mission? Plus she has a connection with the serpant being it’s grandmother. plus she did ALOT of things to direct kratos and atreus with this predictive knowledge, even defying the giants.

I think it’s Faye. The whole soul magic element of the story opens up the possibility that she’s not actually dead but rather displaced from her body and still out there somewhere. This possibility is supported by the “dreams” Kratos has throughout Ragnarok where it seems Faye is communicating with him. If you buy that she could still be out there, incognito, she checks all the other boxes. Capable (theoretically) of speaking to Jormungander, has a vested interest in both Atreus’ well being and the prophecy, would likely be following Kratos and Atreus and therefore aware of what’s happening…

No… Faye is in the light of Alfheim. That’s why Kratos hears her when he walks into the light in 2018. Also in ragnarok when you first go back to Alfheim atreus says he can’t hear her anymore and she’s passed on.

@@Shtummyyy But there is something strange with Faye, even after the first dream in GOW Ragnarök Kratos says to Mimir that it was something more than a nightmare/dream. Without motive... It's extremely difficult to determine who blew the horn. The water level didn't lower afterwards, only two people could actually talk to the snake, at least one minor god was in the area at the time (but it's assumed he returns to Asgard). I do think it was Odin. He did have a secret room set up in tyr's tower and would have had reason to be there from time to time. It is possible he used his magic to disguise himself. Also, he's literally the only other character with the balls to blow the horn.

We have to keep in mind that there was no conversantion between the world serpent and this person whoever it was. Time travel theories lile all the others has a lot of flaws for exemple: 1- why would future Atreus travel back in time to have an audience with a creature that still alive in the present?he just needs to return to the lake of nine, right? 2-why would you be walking on your own footsteps? Based on time travel laws it would not be a smart move look for your past of future self, right? 3- why would Atreus need a horn? Sindri himself said he doesn't need it. Even whith all the flaws i still belive it was Baldur the person who blew the horn.

personally i feel like it's someone we have yet to meet possibly from another mythology or beyond sorta in the same vein as the crack and mask not being a part of any mythology but setting up some grander lore beyond it all and with the sky changing, it could mean that there's even more to Atreus beyond simply Norse mythology and him being in a near death state triggered some other sort of apocalyptic event that may have affected beyond Midgard, kinda like how Kratos has been important in 2 mythologies so far with more to come also since apparently Cory said on twitter that they will eventually touch on it in future installments i feel like that's even more evidence that it might not be any Norse being ...or i'm completely wrong and we'll find out it was some random Norse character in an Atreus spin-off

I just thought of this theory for whom blew the horn. I think it was Atreus/Loki who blew it but of course not the version of him in that game. So my theory is that Atreus/Loki after his journey with Angraboda to find all the giants which they do hopefully well after that runs into thrud the daughter of thor and they talk and Atreus/Loki explains everything to her and she ask about ironwood and he says its funny the first time i heard of it was from the world serpent and thrud questions more well how did the serpent know about iron wood to which he replys well thats where i first found the serpent before it grew but i dont know if it knew where its was and thrud says well if thats so how did it know..now i believe that during the time kratos was taking him to fraya he was aware of everything and heard the horn blow so after thrud say if thats so how did it know he recalls the horn begin blown and realizes that it was him and he says this to thrud and she says but werent you ill and he will say yeah but i dont mean younger me i mean this me and thrud ask how and he says during ragnarok we seen your father and the serpent fight but your father hit the serpent so hard it vanished well what happend is when it got hit and vanished it was sent back in time so if your father was able to hit that serpent hard enough to send it back in time whos to say you cant do the same feat and send me back and thrud says its worth a shot but angraboda shows up and ask to go with him and thrud nods and so loki and angraboda take each others hands into the others and thrud then use her fathers him and send them back in time and the rest is history older Atreus blows the horn tells the serpent about iron wood and to make sure to tell his younger self about it...one big time loop

Cratos had said that killing are god has consequences. As example, when Cratos killed one of Greece gods some kind cataclysm happens in Greece as we see killing the Poseidon -tsunami happens. So Arteus as born in the Midgard is are part of the norse world and are the Norse god. So his death also have consequences and can couse disaster in the world. I think only Cratos death can couse no cataclysm because he is not part of the norse world, but in the other hand he can replace local gods. And technicaly we saw in the end how he replaced Odin by becoming the new all-father and also becoming are part of norse world. And also in the Ragnarok almost all old norse gods get replaced so the balance get intact and we not saw some kind world scale disarters.

i didn't watch the entire video, after watching about 2/3 through i lost interest as everything he was saying had holes in his theory. like the fact that Jormengander couldn't of known that Kratos died in his fight with Thor, the only ones that knew that were Thor and Kratos (the Jormengander that was sent back was created after that event happened anyway), hell i don't even think he really did die there and he couldn't know when Kratos died after that as he was sent back in time at Ragnarok so the past version of him would never of seen Kratos die. that's the main reason why that theory doesn't work but there are others like his stupid theory that Oden was watching through Mimir's eye. like how would that even be possible and if it was possible he wouldn't of needed to disguise himself as Tyr to find out what they were planning.@@user-kz7cn1bv8m
