In this video we're comparing The Rolling Stones, Joe Cocker, and Humble Pie, and their renditions of Honky Tonk Women. Of course, we know The Stones' version. But we're always interested in how Joe rearranged his covers, and the Humble Pie version was a bit of a surprise to us, so we just had to. Please let us know who you think did it better. Enjoy!

For me I prefer the original version by The Stones the best, I really liked what Humble Pie did with their cover, I'm not particularly a fan of Joe Cocker I'm afraid, but I know that many are, which is good.

Well every party needs that guy. I'm going with Ronnie Milsap. If you're not familiar with him. He started off as a piano player and singer in a blues group. Charlie Pride saw him at Whiskey ago-go and convinced him to give country western a try. Mr. Pride mentored him and to keep along story short, through the 70s and 80s he was a hit making machine. Oh yeah, he is also blind.

Welcome back C & C! Stones for me, probably always will be. Though Ike and Tina Turner did a cover of it I'm extremely fond of.....its one of the best of Keith's five string G tuning songs, there's a story that Ike Turner pulled Keith into his dressing room at gunpoint, and demanded Keith show him, "That five string shit". The next Ike and Tina album was all five string G tuning, including the cover of Honky Tonk Women. Funny you should mention Country, as this was originally written as a Country song, it's called, Country Honk, its on Let It Bleed (i think). Worth a listen....Cynthia would hate it though!

I LOVE this "Who Did It Better" series. What fun. I have a whole lot of songs I'd love to suggest. But since Steve Marriott is on my mind here is one I think would be interesting. This song was written and originally performed in 1962 by Smokey Robinson, then covered by the Beatles in 1963, and by Small Faces in 1965. I don't know if it's cheating to say so, but Steve's voice in the Small Faces just rips my heart out 💔. This little white Cockney boy (only 18 at the time) has sooo much soul. I know this is an old song for your generation, but it is a timeless classic and has been awarded honors by both the Grammy's and RRHF as one of the best songs ever. Thank you for your consideration....

Kia Ora HELLO EVERYONE i hope all the crew is doing good 👍 me and Strummer are toasty and warm tonight after the coldest night this year last night we got our Arses in to gear and went for a drive Strummer drove his second time driving since getting his license and we filled the car up with fire wood. Chain saw and roadside deadwood = warm and toasty boy's. Ps I'm a very paranoid passenger and Strummer didn't give me any phantom brake moment's just had to remind him to check his mirrors more often and he's good 👍

It almost seems sacreligious, having come of age in the late 60's-early 70's, but I agree with Cynthia on the Stones.Don't dislike them, and owned many of the early 45 singles as a youngster, but I am not a huge fan overall. I am HUGE fan of Humble Pie and Steve Marriott, but again this is not my favorite recording of theirs (there are a couple live videos I like better) as the entire "Eat It" album was not mixed well in Steve's home recording studio. Jerry Shirley said they were all appalled when they heard the record. I agree that Jerry on drums and Clem on gitar are the stars on this song - killer job by both. So my vote here goes to the always wonderful, soulful Joe Cocker and all the great artists backing him on this tour. IMO - it's not too "honkey" and not to heavy - it's just right and a fun recording. YES, please more Humble Pie !! I like what you have done ("I Wonder" is my favorite), here are a couple more suggestions: "I Don't Need No Doctor" always live - Live at the Fillmore features Peter Frampton on lead guitar and is considered by many to be the best, but the live Winterland from 1973 is harder, bluesier and alot of fun as Steve's interactions with the audience are priceless. "You're So Good For Me" is my second favorite and a bit different tone. A beautiful duet with Greg Ridley's deeper gravelly voice and Steve's higher tones soaring over the top. Soulful back up singers make it sound almost gospel.

The Stones by a mile. Nice and sleazy. Joe Cocker's version works because he has a great band, but I don't care for him except in very small doses. Humble Pie is just the kind of overwrought blues rock that got old very quickly everywhere except America. It just seems off the cuff and not particularly rehearsed and the sound is terrible.

1. Stones version is def a candidate for the vastly overused term “ iconic “ and is the definitive version that I prefer 2. Sorry Col but as usual Joe Cocker butchers a classic song with his obvious ( to me ) inability to actually hold a tune 🤦‍♂️ 3. Sorry James , but the drummers best mate on Humble Pie version , who CLEARLY done the mixing on this only succeeded in ruining what might’ve been a decent version . Stones all day long ! 🤷‍♂️ 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
