Just as Jonah was kept in the fish for three days and three nights so was Jesus also in the hearth of the earth, for three days and three nights. Physically Jesus died but was raised from the dead. He has been liberated. He is no longer a slave to sin. Those who have the truth (ie Jesus) are free as it is said, "So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir"(Gal 4:7). A slave is not free but the Christian who died to his sins and accepted Christ and becomes born again is free because Christ has paid the ransom. A slave has no rights, but those who's ransom has been paid by His blood, through Christ's death on the cross, have rights in God's house because they are his children and heir in His kingdom. Yes, no longer slaves but God's children. Jesus' death was also an atonement or ransom for, or propitiation or expiation of, God's wrath against humanity because of their sins. With Jesus' death, humanity was freed from this wrath. Jesus is that once and for all sacrifice: “For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous in order to bring you to God” (1 Peter 3:18). That's why Christians do not have to observe the ritual of bringing the sacrifice to the altar through their High priest because Jesus is the High Priest.
