I feel like you guys portray Joe Manchin a bit unfairly - yes, he has voted with republicans pretty often, but without those votes, Mitch McConnell would still be in charge. He is also really effective at passing the legislation that doesn’t make the headlines thanks to all his Senate friends. Calling him the “lesser of two evils” seems a bit much

I think people taking the term "lesser than 2 evils" a bit too despicable, it's basically just mean that, you don't like both candidates, but you choose one of them because it's better than choosing the other, Many democrat or leftist there obviously don't like how Joe manchin keep blocking Biden agenda, but they have to vote for him because the alternative would be much worse, So it's sort of right to call it the lesser of 2 evils, they're not like truly evil, you just simply don't like both of the candidate

He's infuriating and I disagree with a lot of his policy positions, but to me he seems a lot like a Trump-era John McCain - unafraid to cross party lines for his constituents. And like McCain, I don't like him or his voting record, and would actively support a more progressive candidate running against him, but I do respect his courage and straightforward presentation.

Seems like it but he is not. He already said he lives on a house boat because the people of West Virginia make him sick. If the coal people pay him he supports coal, if the NRA pays him he supports guns. He's more like a Bernie Sanders or a Donald Trump. Any party will do, and they will say anything to get people to like them but when it comes to actually being there for an important vote, they are no where to be found. Then they wait for the outcome and say, see if I was there I would have voted that way. Bernie Sanders isn't a socialist he is a Zionist bordering on communist. Bernie Sanders cares about Israel not the U.S. and Israel is not our friend. They want nothing more than to see our downfall and don't ever forget that.

As a Conservative Catholic with Minor Liberal Values. Joe Manchin speaks to me and represents the left essence of the Southern Democrat. I gladly endorse him. I lost minor endorsement over his spat with AOC and His refusal to vote for Amy Coney Barrett but…he's still a very skilled politician. I'm a Republican however. (5.25.21 20:55)

@@kigen6400 he stopped a major campaign reform bill that would help fix gerrymandering and that would disclose who is paying for online political ads and financing and would require super PACs and nonprofit organizations that spend money in elections to disclose the names of donors who contribute more than $10,000. And he does not want d.c to become a state

I know his stances can be frustrating but progressives need to appreciate Manchin more. He's a Democrat winning in the 2nd most conservative state in the country. If he goes, then it's a GOP flip for sure (like Jay Rockefeller's seat in 2014). He's still infinitely better than that nutjob that tried to unseat him in 2018. Democrats' unwillingness to tolerate members who have some conflicting views makes them lose more and more ground in rural areas, year after year. They need to find more candidates like Manchin and Tester that can actually connect to those areas.

Coal miners deserve respect they keep the US with lights and heating...the men have black lung and have a short life span.. politicians in WV love the fact that the people stay less educated..if they only knew that he could give less than 2 frosted flakes about them. What's disgusting is he and many politicians are ok with employer paying low wages... crazy how he thinks $11 an hour is a good wage for EVERYONE in WV...he makes over $80 grand.. unbelievable

You have a very high degree of confidence in the Government to think they can legislate their way to making everybody richer. What you don't get is that minimum wage of $15 isn't a big deal in New York or any other big city, but in rural areas, it will cause mass poverty. Already Puerto Rico and American Samoa have seen mass unemployment because of the current federal minimum wage. The average wage there is less than the federal minimum wage, and businesses closed and people started leaving after those areas after the federal minimum wage took effect in poorer areas. Even a slight bit of research will reveal to you that minimum wage can't work. And $15 will render American Samoa and Puerto Rico officially bankrupt and empty of businesses. Same will be the case in West Virginia, Kentucky and other poorer states which will get disproportionately harmed because the cost of living there is already low and businesses there can't afford to pay $15.

@@danielcrafter9349 So the best way to dismiss the facts is to call it "right wing news" ? You can Google it and see what happened to the tuna canning factories after the minimum wage implementation in American Samoa. It's common sense to have the minimum wage in lock step with the local cost of living, otherwise even Zimbabwe or Afghanistan can become as rich as America simply by raising the minimum wage to American levels. You don't need "Right wing" news or "Left wing" studies to see that this logic of federal $15 minimum wage doesn't apply. It has to be local, in tune with the local cost of living. Don't be a partisan hack, see through the left and right BS.

@@holdmybeer123 I'm a Progressive, but also pragmatic, so I wonder, then, if "regional minimum wage laws" (tied to cost of living in each region) would work? ie., $18 in NY/MA/MD/CA/WA/OR; $15 in Midwest/SW/SE; $12 everywhere else (can be tweaked, of course) ... it just DEFINITELY needs be higher than current $7.25 (slave/subsistence wages), or the $9.25 in some states... We can be creative to fit each area's needs & economy..

As a Ohio Democrat I kinda like Joe Manchin. I would say I’m slightly more left leaning then him, but what I like is that he is more centrist than most senators, I don’t like people that have a 100% party voting record, I like when senators say what they think and bring debate and compromise. I personally would prefer slow incremental changes instead of sweeping changes like what more progressive Democrats would like. I still think most of the GOP is repulsive in what they do though. I just feel like most senators are too far left or right I just want like half of of senators to have a voting record like manchin, I just want more overlap between parties.

Minimum wage, if there is to be one, should be 1/0.3 or about 3 times the US median cost of a 1-bed 1-bath apartment. This should provide just enough income to cover 1 person's cost of living. If you want a family, both mom and dad can work.

At my dads church in Lorain in mid 1970’s there was couple from West Virginia but it was kind of an insignificant subject. Joe keeps up the bologna. Because of his conflicts of interest from that state trying to act as if he cares but it’s an act. He wants $11 an hour max. Is that a good days pay corny joe?

I'm actually quite a fan of Manchin. Democrats have been pushing me away more and more in recent years but I still quite like Manchin and Sinema ain't bad either

Getting rich is okay, it's how you get rich and what you do with your success and riches that count. Everything that profited the Americas is bad, everything that profits Asia is good. I know these young ones have good intentions, it's prospective that only come with age that needs to be first and foremost. It comes with age we don't have so many crazy hormones blurring our thoughts and emotions.

Idk about you guys but I rather deal with manchin than a hard core republican who votes against anything brought fourth by the dems. Dems need to stop whining and just work harder to elect more dem senators so they can keep manchin and at the same time not rely on him.
