How can China own all the sea (thousands of miles) that borders on other countries? Universally, all countries only owns a small slice of the sea that borders on a country. No country owns anything of the sea that does not borders on it. Although China borders on the SCS, China still cannot own the whole sea (thousands of miles) because SCS also borders on other countries.

Btw we need put a historical context to any discussion in Asia, I dont think any country in South East Asia ever forget about Japanese aggression and brutality pre-WW2 and during WW2. Now that Japan is thinking of rearming itself other than for self-defense and joining up with the US, seems like Japan has clearly forgotten who drop 2 atomic bombs on their 2 cities... China is guarding and enforcing sovereignty over the islands, shoals and reefs in South China Sea because Philippines constantly tries to take them. The Philippines currently occupies 11 islands, shoals, reefs, etc., in South China Sea. These were originally under Republic of China/Taiwan’s administration. They were forcefully seized by Philippines, in the 70’s, from ROC/Taiwan when it was too weak to defend from Philippines and pressure from the US. For example, Philippines seized Taiwan’s Zhongye Dao/Pag-asa during a storm when Taiwan’s troop temporarily relocated to nearby Taiping Island for safety. Philippines keeps trying to take Huangyan Island (Scarborough Shoal), and Rén'ài Reef (Second Thomas Shoal) by purposely shipwrecking the Sierra Madre as an outpost on Rén'ài Reef, and tries to transport construction material to the illegally shipwrecked Sierra Madre for reinforcement on-site or near it. China is guarding them and enforcing sovereignty over them because Philippines constantly tries to steal them.

What US Coast Guard, instead of China Coast Guard, would have done long time ago to these intruding Philippine vessels? Would US Coast Guard have been so pampering and so gentle in using blocking and water cannon? Obviously not. Do you think the people on-board or this Philippine vessel that survived previous multiples attempts in intrusions be still here and intact today? No. US and Japan who are currently interfering in South China Sea issues wouldn’t have been so kind to the intruding Philippine vessels. US and Japan coast guards would do chasing, onboard searches, shoot to kill, arrested fishermen, seized fishermen’s boats and actively rammed their boats many years ago. China uses blocking and water cannon, which are less aggressive and less invasive than the methods used by coast guards of Philippine and around the world. 3) Philippine is really the one that uses aggressive/bullying, hostile and deadly forces against other countries’ fishermen (Taiwan, China) especially back in the 1970’s until 2010's, during and after Philippine forcefully seized the islands and reefs from ROC/Taiwan. They did chasing, onboard searches, shoot to kill, arrested fishermen, seized fishermen’s boats and rammed their boats. However, on the current incidents between China and Philippines, China has not caused any fatality. 4) The Philippine, during the 70’s, forcefully seized and currently occupies 11 islands, reefs, etc., which included Zhongye Island/Pag asa. These were originally under ROC/Taiwan’s administration. They were seized by Philippine from ROC/Taiwan when it was too weak to defend from Philippine and pressure from US.

Phillippines have lost more on Sabah. Sabah was owned by the Sultan of Sulu and should have been returned to Philippines at the end of colonization. I am speaking as a Malaysian.

the guy with mustache is incorrect! according to og philippines map and the un map in historical records, the territory line cuts off the island, which was the point china refused to accept the ruling from the international court. but philippines used a revise version of the older map to include the islands as part of the philippines. if i remember correctly the map was made by spanish cartographer pedro something in the 1700... also china has historical records dated back to the han dynasty (202bc), which 2k+ years ago and thru out the time china claims those islands up until to 50's, china decided to use an old map dated back to the ming dynasty (1368ad) to draw the 9 dash line. a replicate of the old map is at the museum. so that mustache guy really needs to freshen up his history before he makes another comment...

The US is a treaty ally of the Philippines, and US surely will come to help the Philippines in case war breaks. The Philippine Military has been coordinating with US since 1990s. China should be be the one to show restraint; China has militarized Mischief Reef, which is again part of Philippine's EEZ.
