In this video Steven Franklin looks at the role of Prince Rupert in the English Civil War, an ideal case study for considering the importance of the individual to the course of some historical events.

Fun Fact: He was played by Dalton, Timothy Dalton in "Cromwell" (1970), who later played Agent OO7, James Bond in late 1980's.

How does the history of Prince Rupert tie into his history with the rule of the Roman Empire and king Wenceslas of the Bohemians?

seems Charley-boy wasn't too fond of the Magna-carta ,allowing foreign troops on English soil. I knew about the Irish, but didnt know about the Dutch, which being a Republic, is confusing, why would they side with a popish king ?

Because he was up against the sinister Cromwell and his Puritians who banned everything fun after the Royalist defeat. Sports, Theater, Non religious music, festivals, Christmas.

@@sidneyadnopoz3427 Charles 2nd converted to RC on his death bed, as for Charly Mk 1, his actions spoke louder than words, going to war over a prayer book, blocking all attempts at Reformation, he WAS TRUE PAPIST AT HEART !

@@Highice007 you been reading too many royalist books dude, Cromwell's word was his bond, while every promise by both Charles 1 & 2 were good only as toilet paper, just like their divine right claim.
