All of the comments below are basically correct especially Punky McPunkface(although it's officially MacPunkface). For the point I think this video is trying to say, the Dictators first record had a year on the Ramones, but less people bought it than the first Ramones LP. If you're talking post-Glam people. Which came first the chicken or its nuggets. WGAF!

Well, Iggy Pop and The Stooges were kinda the first punk oriented band in circa 1967, then the New York Dolls were probably the first ones that were using the term punk in around 1971, they were glam punk. Then come the Ramones which is probably the first actual punk rock (hardcore punk in NY or anarcho-punk in the UK).

The Dolls were the first true Punk Band. I don't recall any punk guitarist trying to rip off Johnny Ramone. They all tried to rip off Sylvain or Johnny Thunders. Malcolm & the Sex Pistols even stole Sylvain's guitar and used it to record Anarchy in the UK. The Ramones were the first pop punk band, but seriously very overrated band.

The Dolls were the first true Punk Band. First true Alt Rock Band, first true Emo Band, First true Glam Metal band, first true LGBTQIA Band. The Ramones were a pop punk outfit. They couldn't hold a candle light to the Dolls

Punk bands that predated Ramones: 1. The Stooges 2. MC5 3. Kiss (1st 2 albums) 4. Death? (I think they pre-dated Ramones, but not sure.

Yeah, you are right. They all leaned more on the glam side, the Ramones were the first to create a "package" like theirs, black leather, jeans, etc., so that's where I'm coming from. Thanks for the input!

I don't know who the first punk band was, but I know 100% it was NOT the Ramones. The Stooges and MC5 were more 'punk' and earlier than the Ramones (not that I believe either of them were the 'first'). Whatever Hank Williams Sr was doing was 'punk', IMO

I actually think the Stooges were the first who invented that kind of music, bit they wouldn't consider themselves punk at the time. This was around 1967. The New York Dolls put together by Malcolm McLarren (later put together and managed the Sex Pistols) in about 1971, they were probably the first ones using the term "punk", an' that was glam punk. So, Ramones were probably the first ones who used the term and was not glam, but hardcore punk (anarcho-punk in UK). So, probably they were the first actual punk-rock band.

I agree, there were bands that were punk before the Ramones. Lou Reed, Iggy and the Stooges, MC5, and the NY Dolls, albeit they were more on the glam side. But the Ramones took to it differently, creating a "package" that had the sound, songs, look, and attitude that appealed to a larger crowd. This opened the genre for those who followed and this is why to many, including myself, they are considered the first true punk band.

"Erdély" means "Trannsylvania" (Romanian region) in Hungarian. Before the first world war there were many Hungarians there, and there are still. And it is not pronounced "erdelEE", it's pronounced "erdeeLY", "LY" is one letter.

Thanks! I tried to track down the correct pronunciation, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for the input and thanks for watching!

no one was first! real punks dont gatekeep! anyone claiming to be first needs to uninflate that ego!

It's not ego, it's facts and history. If you don't respect history of arts, that's your deficit. We want to know the truth and that's why we study the past. It's all about knowledge. Where the hell did you find that term "ego"?! Do you know what that is? Hostory is not based on ego, but actual facts. If ye wanna be an oblivious punk, I won't hold ye, me mate.

From my understanding of punk history, all I know is the first punk band was some poor skin-head Germans in the 1960s. Recording was expensive and the quality of music wasn't there and nobody was willing to listen to Germans sing about raping women, hunting down Jews and bashing people's brains in. Fights would always break out, localized riots would start and the police would have to be called out. They put the punk in punk rock. The sound then traveled to England where it was "purified" by fashion designers and studio companies. in the 1970s. This is where army surplus and bald heads became expensive leather with expensive hair cuts and expensive makeup just as much as the music. The Sex Pistols is an example of a studio creating a band to look and sound punkish but with much tamer lyrics.

Well, given that punk was about anti-authoritarian rock music, we'll just have to consult the ISO standard manuals
