A little disappointed the video doesn't discuss what make the Hohokam so amazing. Their *CEMENT* Irrigation Systems! Almost 2000 years ago, their cement waterways brought water to thousands. Now, still used in some Arizona cities, their waterways bring water to MILLIONS in Maricopa county. It was a truly amazing and distinct accomplishment. I would have loved to have heard more about that.

Yep. Then the white man came and erased they culture. I sometimes sit and imagine of how beautiful life must have been for my people back then. I imagine we were a community of family and workers. Not like what we see today where we don't even know the names of our neighbors, and hardly break bread with our families. And I think about how different it must have been with that massive river in Phoenix to be flowing with water. There would have been so many crops, and so many animals. I remember when I was a kid, there were farms on along Baseline, and southern. The corn fields were so beautiful. And now look at it. Breaks my heart to see what a mess it has become. A growing city, maybe, but doesn't compare to what was lost.

Forgot to explain how amazing the hohokam civilization was by the way they arent the only people descended from hohokam my great grandfather comes from a region of northwestern sonora mexico where it is speculated that hohokam migrated into after the fall of hohokam civilization and mingled with hunter gatherer tribes and made the trincheras culture of sonora mexico

@@bloodeagle4417 the USA is obsessed with the word extinct! This tribe will never be extinct as long as their descendants grace this earth. In USA ppl think the Maya is extinct, thousands of them in México and South America. Appreciate the interest of u folks in Native culture, ur support is very needed, we r facing a campaign to erase us by a hostile community. Pray for us.

The Hohokam FARMERS were much more advanced than their European counterparts about 2000 to 3000 years ago. Why do Americans still call native Americans hunter-gatherers? LOL And people call them "desert farmers". No, no advanced civilization would willingly develop their settlement in a desert area. These people practiced extensive farming; they killed all the trees for building and burning; they used up all the river and underground water so that no trees and shrubs could regrow again. They changed climate in the entire region. They CREATED the desert, just like the once-great civilizations in the Middle East and North Africa. LOL LOL

This lady has difficulty expressing herself. I wonder if she knows what she is talking about. Besides being "beautiful" she does not seem to have the academic background to make a scientific presentation. She is constantly using "so", "you know", "like" as she has serious lapses in her vocabulary. She should let a specialist talk about this subject. It is hard to concentrate on what she is saying since she makes frequent long pauses to find her words.

I value the lived experience of those within a culture more than an academic who simply studies it. Filler words and pauses do not equate a lack of knowledge. Plenty of people use filler when they feel nervous.
