I’m a little surprised by Gil’s answer. I think we’re forgetting how good Steph is off the dribble. He and KD both, this isn’t like Jordan guarding Reggie from the 90s he was a spot up shooter. Steph also will have you running through 10 screens before you catch up to him. The game is just different now. No matter the rules I don’t see the bulls beating the KD warriors. They have 3,guys that can score anywhere on the floor. The bulls have Jordan. In most games 50% of the offense was Jordan. I don’t see the bulls keeping pace offensively.

Rodman was able to guard perimeter too not as much in Bulls days as he was older but he still could defend. He didn’t use grabbing and holding all the time. He wouldn’t be unplayable that doesn’t make sense.

Draymond still has a fantastic ability to switch onto guards and contain the drive. Rodman in his bulls era didn't have to face that often. The main problem is he is almost zero offensive threat, which means you would have to play 4v5 on offense or completely rework your offensive system to accommodate him. And you cant just iso MJ all game as we no longer have illegal defense.

In the 90's, Aries is right, especially in the playoffs. Delebedova already showed that physical defense on Steph slows him, and Dele ain't nowhere near the defender of any of the Bulls starters. Today though? Nobody's getting touched up like that without the defender getting a flagrant/tech and ejected at some point. That said, a hard foul here or there still makes you have 2nd thoughts about what you do.

@@SickoRed72 He averaged 26 on 4% worse shooting than his regular season numbers and only got above 30 in one game. Your definition of "torched" is way more lenient than mine. Dele slowed Steph for the series as in it was expected that Steph would be more offensively dominant, and he wasn't. I picked that series as an example, but there are plenty of others that have physical on ball defenders clearly disrupting what's expected from Steph. Olympics/World Championships/Cup also have plenty of evidence to back that up due to the rule differences all more contact out on the perimeter. Physical defense has been clearly shown to affect Steph negatively and the 90s top teams had no shortage of physicality...especially in the playoffs. Doesn't mean he'd get shut down, but plenty of evidence points to him being slowed.

The warriors have never relied on one central ball handler to ‘set up the table’. ‘Traditional PG’s’ are not necessary for Kerr’s style of open ball movement. If Klay’s being harassed he passes. The ball will keep moving till the defense leaves someone open. Plus the 2017 warriors were much better as a unit moving the ball and setting screens than the 96 pacers.

Still who’s he gaurding from half court? steph? KD? Klay? The bulls usually had one guy pick up the ball handler at mid court and the rest are set to defend the interior. Occasionally you’d get Jordan and Pippen picking up mid court, but that was rare and still you’ve got a severe mismatch on the perimeter. Having 3 guys on defense beyond the Arc at any time isn’t something the bulls did.

They're assuming the Warriors will limit their offense to operating in the small box the Bulls operate in. Bothe the Bulls offense & defense operates between the top of the key and the baseline under the basket. Look up the series with the Jazz and you see, at most, one person, on defense, out by the 3-pts line, while everyone else is stuff into the small box I outlined above. Also, every player on both the Bulls & Jazz are static, motionless... that's just the way they played back in those days. The Warriors spreads the floor, unlike any other team in the league, and the bull’s players will be dead tired after the 1st quarter. There isn’t much scoring with MJ on the bench. Also, the Bulls had many games where they only scores 78-80pts per game. The Warriors can score that by the 3d quarter. It will be a blow out for the Warriors, they will SWEEP the Bulls with NO game within 20pts. And if they played 10 straight finals, the Warriors will SWEEP every series with some of the games by 30pts deficit.

Just about everything gets better over time. That includes the athletes. When I was a young man back in the 60s, a baseball pitchers dream was to have an 88mph fast-ball. Today, pitchers are hovering around 100mph fast-ball. If I'm not mistaken, some guy recently hit 106mph with his fast-ball... that's insane! But, it's evidence of how athletes get better over time. No different in basketball… the teams and players are much better, as a result of modernize training equipment and training regiments. Back in the early days, scorers pretty much were limited to a Shooting Guard, maybe of the Forwards or a tall Center that could easily score around the basket. Today, teams usually have 3-to-4 guys that can shoot fairly well from different spots on the floor and can make a good percentage of their 3-pts shots. So, it really isn’t fair to compare teams of the earlier years against current teams.

You just cant put either one in a time machine and immediately have them battle in a 7 game series. The present team will have the unfair advantage over the team from 20 yrs ago. The warriors already know the players from the '96 Bulls team. Plus their head coach played under the '96 Bulls team so he knows their system. In addition, the warriors had access to the latest/modern medicine, supplements, strength and conditioning programs, nutrition programs, and state of the art equipments and facilities. On the other hand, the Bulls have no idea who steph, klay, dray and KD are and what their team's offense look like. I'd say let's give the '96 Bulls team atleast six months preparation to study the warriors while gaining access to the science, technology and basketball knowledge of 2017. Then make it two series with a couple of months interval. One series to be played in '96 with old rules and one in 2017 with the new rules.

Chris Paul said those rocket teams learned how to play against the warriors by using that same defensive strategy against the league. Essentially they practiced for the warriors all year long to get used to it. I disagree with Gil and the guest today. The bulls have never played against this level of play. Whoever is holding curry is getting worked. From chasing after him thru screens and from guarding him one on one with his range good luck. Secondly, if mike is holding klay 😂 will be funny due to klay constantly moving as well plus klay is going to actually try and play D on him. Klay would realistically be the best direct competition MJ has ever faced in all of the playoffs (yes I think klay is better than Clyde drexler) and this won’t be a matchup my can tell guard Scottie to guard him for a while cause Pippen will have his hands full against KD. Scottie and MJ are not getting any breaks vs this team

The player the logo is designed after is still ALIVE! Only three H.O.F’s are dead. The league has a long way to go. That said this new generation of players seem EXTREMELY ENTITLED, due in large part to the benefits garnered off the backs of the older heads. Its difficult to dissect the matchup based on individual skills of the players. What they don’t talk about are offensive schemes of each team. The Bulls run a triangle offense with MJ as the focal point. It allows MJ to either finish at the basket or pull-up a midrange. The Warriors run a double Triangle with Green at point top of the key and double pin downs on left or right to free up a shooter on the 3 pt line or the screener slips to the basket for an easy 2. Its not that the Bulls are not an elite defensive team, its the type of defense required to keep the Warriors from shooting 3s and still guard the rim.

Good luck to MJ chasing Klay out in the 3 pts. If you put Pippen on KD, it's alright, KD still can pull up anywhere he wants, they can't double Steph, KD or Klay but the Warriors can put 2 people on MJ and let Rodman take the shot. If MJ's not holding the ball, then who will be their scorer? Warrior's bench also deeper. Their second unit is also a problem, if MJ sits down, who's gonna score? Can they keep up with Warrior's pace with their 2nd unit?
