The Who’s performance of “See Me, Feel Me” live at Woodstock 1969 is seriously one of the greatest moments of rock history. It’s my favorite song by them and it’s a religious experience. It truly defines the generation. That would be my recommendation.

BUT, one thing you are leaving out is that once the music starts creeping into your soul, it's really difficult to keep up a static beat. Yes, rub a few accent riffs, but to keep the beat can be a challenge... and it's the most important job in the whole band. Keep the beat, keep the song on track... no matter what

The Who's "I Can See For Miles" peaked @ #9 in 1967 and strange as it may seem, it was the group's ONLY Billboard Hot 100 single to peak in the Top 10. Between 1965 ("I Can't Explain") to 1982/83 ("Eminence Front"), The Who charted 26 singles on the Hot 100. The runners up: 2) "See Me, Feel Me" (#12/1970), 3) "Who Are You" (#14, 1978), 4) "Won't Get Fooled Again" (#15/1971) & 5) "Squeeze Box" (#16/1975).

Great choice! My very first concert, when I was a young teen right after this song hit the airwaves, was The Who as opening act (they stole the show, and smashed their instruments during the final song), the Blues Magoos (one hit wonder with "Nothin' Yet" , and headliner Herman's Hermits. The entire album that this song is from "The Who Sell Out' was groundbreaking IMO, they used a lot of new recording and guitar techniques / ideas, including 'commercials' between some of the songs - worth a listen to the entire LP.

I see some comments about this being hailed by Townsend as their loudest & raunchiest song to date, then McCartney writing Helter Skeeter as a one-up. I think Helter Skeelter is indeed a heavier, more rocking song. But don't forget that The Who were once known as the loudest band out there, literally louder than a jet engine (hence Townsend's great hearing loss today), and they're the first band I'd ever heard of that smashed & destroyed their guitars after a performance. It was juvenile, but it got them noticed in the press.

Yes, Jay, The Who is DEFINITELY in the category of "Greatest Rock Bands of All Time"! Along with The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Yes. Once you guys have listened to more of their songs, PLEASE watch their movie "Quadrophenia"!! Their studio album, Quadrophenia, is probably The Who's best. And the movie is about the battles between the "Mods" and the "Rockers" in England in the 1960's. It is a very moving film, and also stars STING (who was an unknown at the time) as the King of the Mods.

This takes on an even deeper meaning too, when you look at it through the modern, digital, age. "I can see for miles," indeed. With satellites and the proliferation of security cameras, traffic cameras, and the like, I can see pretty much anywhere on the globe from the comfort of my own home. Sure, it may not be real time, but I can go to street view of Times Square or the 109 Shibuya building in Tokyo and I'm still sitting here in my apartment hundreds or thousands of miles away. And certain parties-such as law enforcement-can actually see the camera feed in real time, or with only a tiny delay.

The Who is best experienced. You can do that if you listen to whole albums at a time. They were groundbreakers. Soon after Tommy was released, they did a live performance of it at Fillmore East. Leonard Bernstein went backstage, grabbed Pete Townshend by the shoulders, and said, "Do you realize what you've done?" Listening to Quadrophenia is an even better experience. And topped with "Love Reign O'er Me", it leaves you drained.

Bill Clarke I agree. John Entwistle is widely considered the best bassist of the Rock Era. Rob Squad family needs to see a video of him performing. His playing is unbelievable!

Pete Townsend claimed that this was the loudest rock song ever. In response, Paul McCartney wrote "Helter Skelter." Yes, the Beatles made what may well have been the first heavy metal song.

Moon makes the song. It's a threatening mood. No producer can produce Moon's style, but one can constrain that style and make it fit the song, make into a song worth listening to. Imagine this song without that drumming. Inconceivable.

They have so many fun early hits and one thing you could do is just go find a playlist for their early greatest hits album which was called, Eaty Meaty Big and Bouncy. And everything on there is gold to check out the early Who. But I think you would love and your kids would probably love, this really oddball one they did and yet it was still a hit, and it's called, Boris the Spider. It's creepy and crawly and a lot of fun.

I'm a huge fan of all the "British Invasion" bands since seeing the Beatles on Sullivan in 1964. You're right Amber, there was an occasional "creepy" song - Stone's "Under My Thumb" and Brown Sugar", Beatles' "You Can't Do That" come to mind. Thanks for reacting to all this music from my youth!

I love your reactions and have been following you for some time. I see you have quite a few "The Who" videos. But you still haven't heard one of their best most popular songs yet. Its called: "love reign o'er me" Its one of their most powerful songs ever! I really look forward to hearing what you think. Cheers.

A great Who song to react to (you might want to save this for Halloween lol) Boris the Spider! It's by bassist John Entwistle. Also will join those who want Love, Reign O'er Me, IMO one of Townsend finest creations.

Love your reactions - both fun and insightful. And to see you diving more deeply into The Who catalog (and seemingly moving them into the upper tier of your admired bands. Know you've done the studio version of their "Won't Get Fooled Again" before, but think your viewers would really love your reaction to the live 1978 version from Shepparton Studios - a truly breathtaking, surprising and fun performance.

Great song. One of the great "Classic Rock Bands" of all time. Never tire of their music. Unfortunately I never saw them in concert. One could argue them and the Kinks were the beginning of "Punk Rock". Steely Dan - Peg, Babylon Sisters, Black Cow, Aja, Kid Charlemagne, Night by Night, Fire in the Hole.

Led Zeppelin wanted to be the Who, and the Who wanted to be the Kinks. And there you have the British invasion. The Who were as hard as any band for their time. I Can See for Miles was one of the rockingest songs of its era. But, I still say like some Beatles songs, I can see...is a carefully crafted metaphor for tripping - being deceived yet seeing clearly, even far sighted.
