Citizen Khan star Adil Ray identifies as Brummie, British, Muslim, Pakistani and African - his mum came to England from newly independent Kenya with her family in 1967. Heading back to east Africa, Adil traces his mixed Asian and African ancestry across Kenya to Uganda.
On the trail of rumours of a link to African royalty, Adil meets African relatives for the first time in the traditional kingdom of Buganda and is amazed to discover the truth about his lineage.

My mother and Aunty Aisha were the best of friends. I recall Aunty Aisha being dropped off at home by your aunty Razia and your mami. Aunty Aisha and my mum really cared about each other.❤

They worked with my Great Grandpa even the UK PM is from Kisumu my great grandpa immigrated to kenya as a clerk with EAST AFRICA RAILWAYS AND HARBOURS he was transferred to kenya

Our family is from Uganda, and our grandfathers came from the furthest reaches of the British Raj, the Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP) near Afghanistan. They were Pathans and came to Mombasa, Kenya and then Uganda. It was the empire days and the British had the railways, plantations, roads and other projects so there was plenty of work opportunities. This was also just after WW1. As a child, I remember the East African Railways & Harbours steam trains in our town Jinja, and also the lake Victoria ferry in the late 1960's. Those were the days, lovely memories.🐞

Fascinating indeed,you are blessed to have found your roots, Many African american would wish that but in vain.its indeed important to have a sense of belonging,that gives a sense of pride more still related to king of Buganda ,that's totally amazing having royal blood flows into your veins.i.believe you feel proud and happier

These are some of the things that triggered Amin Dada. When you hear these stories, history of Uganda takes on a very colorful complexion! Especially that he was also Muslim!

Sorry lady but no African mother gives up her children due to finances especially not in those days. They send the children to the village or other relations as the story progresses we learnt that the children were taken away from their mother after their father died due to race!

Yes there is something there... I know that in Kiganda customs, families aften send their children to a family member better off, financially and socially, to give the kids a better chance to progress in life... that was olden days... but makes sense... also at least in Buganda Kiganda customs is kids stay with mother till they are 7, then boys often go to a better off family member... also the kids are looked upon more or less to belong to the father's lineage and clan... ... again in olden days...

At the time, people didn't distinguish Turks from Indians. It was so in other colonial lands. This was before people became familiar and wise to the correct terminology and signifiers, which we modern people take for granted.

in latin america I know people who think they have turkish heritage but it ends up they are just croatian because their families migrated from ottoman empire
