People don't appreciate something until it's gone. The presence of bowfin signals a healthy system, been there longer than pike bass musky walleye. It predates all those.

Gotta say I've been watching you for many years now and it's incredible to me how you've perfected your video format. The editing for everything from the slow motion fish releases, to the panning B roll of the setting while the lines are soaking, to the time passed note screen, to even the music build up well in advance to the payoff big bite. It all meshes and flows perfectly from start to finish. Even the thumbnails for vastly different fishing spots are color corrected to match a theme making them all look related and easy to spot. I just wish you'd put some info on the music you use is your vids, I"ve heard some veeery nice music on a few videos in the past that I wouldn't mind hearing more of... Keep it up man, you've got a channel more people need to see!

@@swifty5530 sounds like you don't know much about bowfin yet, boss, or you've been given misinformation passed down through generations of anglers like many of the folks I've met that wrongfully hate the species. They're fascinating predators and living relics of their time that have been around for over 150 million years; they also serve as balancers within an ecosystem, targeting the most abundant forage species, and contributing to healthier fisheries and larger game fish. You're free to hate them, but I would encourage you to spend a little time learning about the species, its role in our waters, and comparing the current, reputable research about the species with the information you've been given in the past. 🙏

Always love seeing a new video from you in my KZfaq feed. No matter the luck you have in fishing or the situation, you always manage to show positivity and joy. Thanks for putting out such great content. On a side not, I’ve been using bratwurst and breakfast sausage at night here in Indiana on the lake I live at. Have had success catching catfish, turtles and the random stick. Bacon is also a killer at night.

Just a reminder to those watching: know your state laws regarding using caught fish as bait! Totally shocked me to see you use sunfish at first. There’s a common thought that “rough” fish can’t be returned to the waters. In fact, most states have repealed those laws and enacted laws that prohibit leaving them on the banks. I was donating my caught “lawyers”/ bowfins to a raptor rehabilitation center, because nearby fisherMen kept spouting archaic info, and telling me I can’t catch and release. Our best time for catching bowfins is during early spring flooding in the flood plains. Huge fish, including northerns(Not in season!) can be caught in small swales.

Couple nice bow fins. That brat reminds me of my daughter's cooking fish like hot dogs when we were ice fishing in Alaska. Just stuff a stick down the throat and cook them over the fire. Love the videos Nick.

Even if it were a snakehead, it's wasteful to just toss them on the bank. Snakeheads are a great fighter and one of the best table fish you can find.

Prior to watching your channel I had never heard of let alone seen a Bowfin. So now I tend to enjoy catching them because they fight like no other fish around. Yesterday I caught my PB of 5.4 lbs and man did it fight. Keep up the great content and have fun out there.

Hi Nick, my Great Grandfather used to use corn for trout fishing, kinda fun considering we don’t have trout down here in Texas, not native anyway. I totally agree with you, folks should be good stewards of the land and the water. Leave things better than you found them. Learn your fish species, if you don’t know, look in a book. I love to fish, and like you catch and release. Stay safe out there, and catch the big one !!!
