It's no secret that luxury clothing and accessories command a high price tag, but the reasons for why fashion items have a high cost can vary. For something like Stetson cowboy hats, it can be a combination of choice materials plus the cultural significance of the brand with celebrity endorsements like Beyonce and Dua Lipa. For others, brands create a business strategy based on limited supply and rarity, like Supreme drops and the Air Jordan resale market. Still other luxury prices boil down to the time-intensive methods used to create something like a single pair of Momotaro denim pants in Kojima, Japan. We take a journey across the globe to see how some of the most expensive luxury fashion items are made, and why they're so expensive.

I will never understand spending an absurd amount of money on clothing, no matter how wealthy I get. Buying quality, hand crafted products that last I can understand but mass manufactured products with a brand label slapped on it for bragging rights is ridiculous.

If you're wealthy, if you see something you like, you just buy it without a thought. Tho buying for bragging rights... Idk if actually rich people do that, if so that's indeed useless, at the very least like the things you buy

Haha 😅 I guess it's for people with too much time to care about that, only shallow people will care about that as it seems a waste of time to bother... or those focus on their appearance if it's their job like celebrities? I remember they have a problem in Korea about Idols wearing luxury items as their young fans are begging their parents to buy them those things maybe to support their idol or whatever. Eitherway it's very effective.

The kimonos are the most exquisite. Maybe because I sew & embroider, but they are quite superb in terms of quality and beauty. Also, when you think that the Japanese don’t like second hand clothes… I would gladly buy one second hand. Sooo beautiful.

The biggest difference between the bags, and something like gold is that you literally cannot produce any more gold in already exists. Yes Hermes bags are very nice and rare however, there’s nothing technically stopping them making millions of them if they really really wanted to. It depends. I'm plus-sized, so finding clothes in my size that I actually like is difficult. It's absolutely worth it to me to spend a bit extra on, say, a bespoke winter coat off Etsy than it is to buy something cheaper but that I don't like the look of. Plus, it's always kind of fun to have an article of clothing that's genuinely unique or produced on such a small scale that you're unlikely to encounter someone with the same thing.

@@Tracy-xe9zu This is a VERY different thing than what OP is talking about. You actually need to spend more since otherwise you might not be able to get what you like to wear. You're clearly not paying extra merely for status. People that buy ANYTHING from Supreme or those that buy specific models from known brands like Nike (Air Jordans being mentioned by OP) do it only for the status. You will always get higher quality items for a lower price by not buying any status products. Not saying the status product is necessarily bad but it's not worth the price.

If there is a high demand and low supply on anything no matter what it's price will be high. Ecomomy works like this and i see why hand made stuffs are really expensive because in mass production firms can produce 100 times more than firms make them by hand and also there is more effort.

Idk, I just think it would add a lot to the pic and would look a lot better than a random house there…

People used luxury items as a key to access to their next social status group. Like who can or will you meet when you have a Bugatti. People tend to think why overpaid for a 4 wheeled vehicle or leather goods from the same animal. Think of it as an ACCESS KEY to where you want to be. Billionaires tend to hangout with billionaires. Other than that, they are just fulfilling their social responsibility.

To be honest, most of the “luxury” items I see are things that are expensive just because they are rare and the market has created the hype. Those sneakers? They aren’t usually created with the finest materials on Earth. And if they are made with alligator leather or ostrich skin, then they aren’t hand stitched, nailed, and varnished with a brush like proper dress shoes should be. There’s the segment of the luxury market of clothes and accessories composed of things made by hand using artisanal methods of only the finest possible materials. Those are worth the price. But you often won’t know about their existence and they won’t usually show up on videos like these because, for the most part, they won’t have any logos or excessive advertising to accompany them. They’re for the clients that know😉

Supreme is not a " Name brand " company. Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Ralph Lauren are " Name Brand" companies. The customer doesn't determine what companies are Name brand and what aren't Name brand. Companies do. All Name brand companies started out from day 1 as Name brand companies. Supreme started out as a low class skateboard logo. Not a company or a " Name brand" company. No company becomes Name brand over time. They have to start out as Name brand.
