In this video, I'm going to be sharing my in-depth review of the Voigtlander 21mm F1.8 Ultron. We took an in depth look at the Bessa R4m, and today, we will be looking at my main 21mm lens. If you're a film photographer, and you're considering a 21mm lens, maybe the Leica 21mm f1.4 Summilux, F2.8 Elamrit or the F3.5 Super-Elmar, you might find this helpful. They at great lenses for your Leica m6, Leica m4, m7 or even your Leica MP. In this video, I'll go over what exactly I love about this lens, and why a 21mm lens - the voigtlander 21mm ultron, might be a good choice for your analog photography.
All the black and white pictures in this video were made with Ilford HP5, pushed 2 stops (HP5++) and Fomapan 400+, developed on Ilfotec HC on the AXLE CR1 Rotary Processor.
I use colour film as well, a few being Kodak portra 160, 400, 800, Color plus, Ultramax and Gold, Fujifilm PRO160NS and PRO400H.
If you love film photography, join me on this analog journey here on KZfaq. Thanks for watching!

First video I’ve seen of yours and I appreciate how relaxed I am while watching. Your soothing voice and slower pacing really helps me consider what you are saying. Looking forward to watching more of your content.

Any thoughts on this vs the 1.4? Any significant difference in build quality or performance besides the aperture? Amazing video and currently making my way through your other vids

I rented this lens a while back and really enjoyed shooting with it. I have the 21mm f4 and I love how tiny it is but its only viable in the daytime unless you use a flash. The 21mm f1.8 is also really great for astro in my experience. I don't really pixel peep though, but the results I got were great. Been looking for a good deal on one of these lenses ever since.

Awesome video. I'm on the same road, using the CV 21 f/3.5. I love that little lens and use it the same way you do. I've been using it on an M10 and an MP without an accessory viewfinder, but am starting to think that I want one.... Although it's also fun to work just by inspecting your peripheral vision, as you demonstrate!

Felt like a guided meditation. Nice vid. I like to keep a 21/4 voightlander in my travel bag cuz it’s so small and light for those screen setting type photos and to just get it all in.

Thank you! Yes a small 21 is always preferable too, it packs out of the way and comes in handy when necessary! :)

Another solid video! Really nice bit about how the human field of view is sometimes much wider than 35/50. I think that this lens basically captures everything in front of you like an imprint. It offers photographers the ability to snap away at infinite depth of field without even using the viewfinder. What are your thoughts about the 24/25mm focal lengths?

Thank you!! Yes I love it! I’ve personally always found 24 slightly “not here/not there”. Just wide enough but always too narrow, and a little too wide to get slightly cleaner pictures like a 28. That’s likely because I’m at home with a 35 now. If my main were a 50, I’d probably supplement it with a 24 though!

The max aperture of 1.8 is really enticing, but I don't think I'll pick up another rangefinder or accessory viewfinder just for it. My Canon FD 24mm f2.8 and Zuiko 28mm f2 lenses for my SLRs will suffice for now, I think. Thanks for the video, Jeremy! It's always great when you you post!

I shot a 24/35/85mm lens kit on my 35mm Nikon SLR. I shot a 21/45/90mm lens kit on my 35mm Contax rangefinder. Based on my experience with my Nikon and Contax cameras, I bought a 21/35/90mm lens kit for my 35mm Leica M6 rangefinder. I love using the Contax 21mm accessory viewfinder on my Leica.

Thanks for another great video! Do you have any advice on using wide lenses on digital cameras? I made the decision to buy the Super Angulon 21mm F/3.4. I really like this lens but it gives a purple/green tint and a lot of vignette. I tried fix corner and flat field correction but it's very hard to get good results...

Glad you enjoyed it! Yes ultra wides on a digital camera can be a headache. What camera are you using? If you're able to find a built in lens profile (like with the M9, M240 and M10), it helps a lot!

What a compelling argument for this lens! 21mm 1.8 can be handheld like no other - this opens so many doors. Do you ever shoot the 21 on your M cameras? I'm trying to decide whether an external viewer is necessary for this lens or whether one can infer the frame lines

Thank you! Yes I'd highly recommend an external optical viewfinder :)
