Nice video. After getting into Leica for one and a half year and have been using 35mm cron v1 and v4, a voigtlander 35mm ultron and a Minolta 40 rokkor, I finally give in to this lens and order one. It might be my last 35mm lens to buy.

A very balanced and sober perspective. I am wowed by this lens when used properly, and the focusing is nailed, but I know it would never become my go to lens if I owned one. My 50mm Summilux ASPH, which I have owned for over ten years, keeps me very happy.

The discovery of your videos and your photography was strangely timed at the perfect moment in my journey as a film photographer. I only ever shot color film, and recently I forced myself to give up color for some time. I am just beginning to feel how freeing it can be to shoot black and white film and bulk loading. And I happen to have chosen Fomapan. Can't wait to see what the future brings to you :)

I don't have a Leica, but I was just recently checking their various digital cameras on Photons to photons website, their main cameras perform very badly as far as noise low light performance is concerned. I am not talking about anyone's subjective thoughts about the grain and noise, just looking at it objectively from the data. Admittedly in real life performance, subjectivity people might find them performing well, or at least that they personally find the grain acceptable or even Even though I find the M Series bodies very nice.

Yes. Leica is not a system you’d want to consider if technicalities matter to you. I mean… No autofocus…. Amongst many other things. There are far better spec’d cameras, for far less money. What they do, is give us analog photographers the closest possible experience to shooting film, while having the benefits of digital. I primarily shoot ISO 3200 film. Grain isn’t an issue for me.
@dalvinderbasi3495
@dalvinderbasi3495 12 күн бұрын
@@jeremy-t Actually I am not concerned about auto focus, I am totally okay with manual focus lenses. I shoot film too, the idea of Leica film cameras is more appealing after looking at the data for Leica digital cameras and their sensors. For me personally speaking, film at 3200 Is too grainy for me. Although I am totally okay with modern digital cameras at ISO 3200, even 6400 depending on the camera. I can totally understand what you have said that quite a lot of people find higher grain appealing, and I do to some extent too. You are probably right that there are better cameras as far as digital sensors are concerned for someone like me that are non Leica cameras. At the moment I was just trying to understand what I would be buying into if I bought a Leica digital camera.
@jeremy-t
@jeremy-t 11 күн бұрын
@@dalvinderbasi3495 Ah I see! Ok I get it now, didn’t immediately understand where you were coming from in the first comment. Yes, you definitely won’t be buying into “amazing technological performance per dollar spent”. But, you will, be getting a camera that gives good pictures, that pretty much works exactly like a film camera (if you can ignore the screen). Most tangibly, it’s about process versus outcome when it comes to a digital M vs other systems. (Though the M9 and M240 do give colours that are very unique, but that’s subjective and still down to one’s ability to grade, eg, most people might not be able to tell the difference between Ektar and Gold 200) How the object feels in the hands, how the shooting experience is.. Its main benefit cannot be measured empirically. So to directly compare output, in isolation, with numbers and charts, and conclude that it doesn’t measure up, would be missing a big part of the point. Not saying that Leica is better, in fact for most people, it’s probably not. But if you can, try to get your hands on one for a few days, and see how you find it! Hope that answers your question!

Jeremy great video and thanks for sharing. Been considering both the Plaubel 670/w options and I agree it’s only a matter of time when they break but buying mint and taking care of them they will last years just like my Widelux. I want to ask what rotary processing machine are you using. Think that would work using the Jobo expert tanks.

The f/1 Noctilux is indeed a better size than its newer 0.95 version. I would miss my f/1 if it were not for the focus shift which makes close up at f/1.4-f/4 a dead zone for rangefinder use.

@@j.k5654 the one I had was spot on at f/1, but the zone of focus shifted when stopped down, so it was not possible to mask slight focus misses with extra depth of field until f/4 was reached. I sold it for the Summilux 50 ASPH when it was released before ever trying it on a digital camera. Have the f/0.95 - it has great focus on digital.

Amazing video, I really appreciate your way of describing the pros and cons. I tried Summicron v4 pre asph on my m4. This lens is called the king of bokeh, but what surprised me about this lens is its classical strong but smooth colors on negativ films comparing to my daily Summicron 35 asph lens. Is it better for me to get the summilux pre a instead if I am looking for something with similar or stronger colors to Summicron v4? Thank you again for your nice video :)

I like the M6 much better. It has a better balance and feels like a true shooter's camera. The MP is a collector's camera to me. The film advance lever is easier and faster to use on the M6, and the long metal arm of the MP is slower to advance while shooting. You can tuck your thumb under the M6's rewind arm to help balance and hold the camera better. The M6's film rewind knob is faster and easier to use in the field, using a knob is slower and less intuitive. I don't mind the zinc M6's, it gives the camera a better shooter's balance and feels less clunky to operate. The M'6's matt chrome black paint looks more pro than shiny black paint. The earlier non-TTL M6 is a better shooter's camera overall. I don't mind the 2 triangle metering, always nail proper exposures. The 2 triangles and dot is more distracting. Never had issues with the focus square ghosting out and losing a shot. Both are great cameras. Not sure using an MP is a shooter's upgrade, probably more of a collector's upgrade. No red dot logo on the MP, love the red dot logo. I use an original Leitz logo M6.
