Churches splitting over LGBTQIA issues? A Perkins seminary professor thinks the Bible is dangerous to read. This United Methodist minister doesn't want you to take the Bible seriously or authoritatively. Was he ever converted?

Thank you Pastor John for your wonderful words of wisdom. We should not be surprised by the response from the world and the rejection of the Bible. I believe that it is the root of all of the confusion and conflict and collapse of our mainline churches. We are warned so many times that people will pick and choose and only accept what they want to accept, not allow the Bible to change their way and mind, but to attempt to change the Word of Christ to the way of life in the world. THANK YOU! God bless you. 🙏

The word of God is truly a two-edged sword. It divides up those who follow God and those who follow Satan. I want to be like John Wesley described himself - a "bible bigot." You don't get to pick and choose. Thank you. And keep praying for the lost and deceived.

Any so-called "minister" like "Reverend" Holberg who claims that the Bible is "dangerous" is not of God but a wicked wolf in sheep's clothing; false prophets that were perfectly explained in Matthew 7:15-23 and the second chapter of 2 Peter. I'm thinking of hopefully becoming a local pastor of my church (or re-opening a closed but still standing Baptist church in a town near me) only I'd take my duty seriously and not do it like what that apostate is doing (and this is from someone who was raised Baptist, left church when I was 10, was a lukewarm Christian in my teens to early 20s, but now am in a Congregationalist church after slowly but surely coming back to Christ). _And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God._ Luke 4:12 KJV

Amen! It's wicked that he was teaching people this heresy for so many years. He will stand before God in judgment and will have to answer for this. Happy to hear you are considering becoming a local pastor. Stand firm in the faith and God will be with you. Keep praying for the lost and deceived.

He did not say the bible was dangerous-this is click bait by this pastor again. He stated that the way it is read is dangerous because it leads to hate specifically toward the LBGQT+ people. This against what Jesus teaches and the apostles teach which is Love. Dr. Holberg, a Hebrew scholar goes into detail on the specific versus that are taken out of context. BTW- Dr. Holerg is married with grown children so he is not writing this with any bias. All churches and Christians should be welcoming and affirming because we are all sinners.

@@pdt4776 Being married with children does NOT prevent bias nor mean that you are NOT a sexual pervert. Most Romans in the first century were bisexual. It is Holberg that is deliberately misreading the Bible. Paul was a far better Hebrew scholar and he said homosexuality IS sinful. Romans 1:26-27. For thousands of years Hebrew and Greek scholars said homosexuality WAS definitely a sin. For thousands of years Hebrew and Greek scholars ALL read that homosexual behavior IS a sin. Only in the last 50 years after our culture rejected God did the translation get suddenly questioned. SMH

@@johnbreitmeier3268 Correct. And Paul is specifically referring to those for have rejected God (see 1:18-25) and made themselves idols. The ungodly-then Paul warns everyone against passing judgement on others in chapter 2. Here in lies the issue at hand: people read v 26-27 out-of-context and use it as "proof texting" for hate and bigotry and then pass judgement on that particular group. That sin is no greater then lying which is an "abomination to the Lord". ALL sinners are welcome to become adopted as a child of God and have their sins forgiven, past present and future (Rom 5:8).

The love of God is like a football game, like a tennis game , a basketball game, there are boundaries that stop the game if outside. Gods love is not unconditional, check out the boundaries He sets forth, and don't go out of them. Gods love is for everyone, don;t step outside them, or miss out!!!

The bible is dangerous because once you read it, you’re accountable for what you do with it. That’s why Jesus’ teaching his disciples in parables was an act of mercy toward unbelievers. Because they didn’t understand them.

To ALL who believe Jesus Christ as our Savior have the right to become children of God. God forgives ALL our sins: past, present, and future. Forgiveness comes as a total package; God does not forgive us partially but wholly. “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1). Nothing, not even our future sins, will condemn us. There are no church pews filled with sinless people to think other wise is self-righteousness or pride. The Bible teaches that, after salvation, we continue to sin (1 John 1:8; 2:1). We won’t reach sinless perfection this side of glory. God imputes or accredits the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ to the believing sinner while he is still in his sinning state (Rom 3:21-22). All churches should be welcoming and affirming. Praying for you that you would read the Bible and see what it says about sin and Gods Love. If you don't sin then Jesus died for nothing.

But there's a very big difference between "trying not to sin" and "promoting it or saying it is OK"...... Saying "Oops I screwed up" and "don't worry about it you will be forgiven." Remember God knows your heart he knows exactly what you're doing and why. Having attractions is not a sin but looking the other way while they're being acted on or even promoting them is.

We do want to welcome all people to come to church and hear the gospel - which includes the fact that without repentance and belief, we are condemned. No where are we told in the Bible to affirm a person who refuses to repent. Praying for you.

I think it's telling that despite the title, Holbert never actually addresses what the Bible really says, conveniently cutting off the passage from 1 Timothy four verses early.

If you click on additional reading in the article he goes into detail. Also the additional verses end with 11 "that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I was entrusted." Which is self explanatory. He is saying false teachers are teaching the law as this pastor teaches. Paul taught that if you are in Christ " we have died to the law" (Rom 7:4,6) and are free from "the law of sin and death" (Rom 8:2). Praying for you and this pastor that you would read the Bible and see what it says about sin and Gods Love.
