It’s not that he never wanted her to audition it’s the fact there could be other options the role was offered to michael b Jordan with no audition . The role was never offered to Letitia or there would never be an audition for that role Letitia probably was in mind.. but he had a lot of people in mind also

For any of you that don't "get it", what she's saying is the equivalent of casting visually mix-raced people in a movie about the founding fathers of America. That was a mature and appropriate decision on her part and I give her a lot of respect. It does NOT undermine her own identity in any way. It would have been really stupid for an African nation (Wakanda), which has been isolated from the rest of the world to have someone that clearly has non-African features. That's all it was and makes perfect sense. Good on you, Amandla

I understand her decision not to audition because she's mixed and she didn't feel like she was an ppropriate fit for that role but all these ppl acting like the fact that she's light skinned plays a factor on why she shouldn't play a character in Black Panther are ridiculous. All Africans don't have the same skin complexion, hair texture, facial features and body types. To have those assumptions and generalizing the entire continent is ignorance in itself. I understand dark skinned women need representation on the big screen but to act like there are no light skinned women in Africa is a joke and to have at least one character in Black Panther with a lighter complexion wouldn't hurt anyone in fact it would've been an accurate representation smh

Amandla ( Xhosa tribe) means POWER ( and you raise your fist) . that name was commonly used during apartheid mostly ANC signature (former Nelson Mandela party). her Mother or her Ancestors were coming from South Africa.

Despite her being mixed, for someone as self aware as she is, and looking back at her previous roles, Black Panther would have been a down grade for her. Black Panther triumphs as far as casting, receiving a big budget, and success but it's fake. U see dumbasses walking around saying "Wakanda Forever" like it's a real country. Compare that to The Hate U Give, Hunger Games, Everything is Everything, There's a level of authenticity in it which she prefers to relate to. Besides Black Panther is just Ironman in Africa.

@@IkeDST They wouldn't have got a teenage girl to be T'Challa's love interest. Chadwich is twice her age and they need somebody like Lupita to match him. Amandla would have auditioned for Shuri or one of the Dora Milajes. Shuri makes more sense considering the age.

She wasn't offered any role. She just decided to back out of the auditioning process. And honestly I don't think Ryan Coogler would have cast her in the film even if she had followed through with the auditioning process. Coogler chose the perfect cast IMO.

I understand what your saying. Me as a lightskin (mixed) dont have the same issuses as a darker black person, but we are still discriminated against because of our color. racist people don't see color background, thats the point by the hate u give: PoC, espacailly black Men are treated unfairly and racially because of their appearance, SKIN COLOR. I have to say, this is such a loss for Amandla. Countless racially mixed humans have shared their feelings of : “not white enough” “not black enough” This or that. Feeling isolated and out of place. And she completely bought into this toxic message. She is ALLOWED to celebrate and honor that side of her. Personally, I think she made a very immature (yet understandable) decision to not audition. And for anyone who buys into the same mentality she did, I hope you realize how wrong and inhumane that is to completely alienate and enforce the bizarre idea that biracial humans aren’t “enough” for roles such as these.

Representation also includes light skin blacks too. There are light blacks in Africa and all over the world and biracial people. Its not fair to exclude light skin blacks either. The dismissive "you can find another role" or "society favors whites and lights" when we are all the "society" and its just an excuse to discriminate against light skin blacks. I'm not sure why. She was invited in for another round of interviews and declined due to Wakanda never being colonialized and her being of mixed race. She never said she got the role, she said she opted to not continue the process. She also said she adored the film. Not sure what's to hate. Seems like a nearly perfect answer to a question prompted by the interviewer.
