Man, I do hope you will make more videos like that. To make a video essay about people who are special not because they are, but because they are fighting for something special is phenomenal. And these words: "They are not chosen ones, but they are the ones who chose," went right into my heart. That is really good writing.

Great comment! IRL, this translates to randos unite! From simple ranchers to spies, this is how randos unite to attempt to defeat the NWO... Also applicable: the choices you make, not the chances you take, determine your destiny.

In an overwhelming sea of mediocrity and corporate, soulless productions, Andor stands out as a show made with passion and by people who had a story to tell, not just because Disney needed another piece of mindless content to feed their streaming service.

I'm honestly quite surprised it got approved in the first place, a Star Wars political espionage made under the control of Disney, who would of thought, and i'm all for it!

Another similarity between the two protagonists that I noticed is their skill at noticing details. Cassian and K both pay incredible attention to the worlds they live in and that gives them a believable exceptional ability that is useful to their missions, but not one that is so overwhelmingly powerful that their vulnerability is removed

A great breakdown of these two stories! I haven't seen Blade Runner 2049 yet, but Andor is magnificent! Star Wars with depth, of story, characters, & environment. It takes it's time, as you become invested in new characters, and the inevitable explosions of action that are coming. You almost dread that action because you know some of the characters you're invested will be lost. I think there is only one space battle in the entire series, and how it plays out is brilliant! I love the 'boots on the ground' atmosphere Gilroy created. You are immersed into the oppressive society that these people live in. The Empire is much more frightening, because they are more 'real'. They're intelligent, ruthless and suffocating. I'm so glad to know that we will be getting another season of this brilliant show!

I do wonder how much playing into new media effects this. Take the Mandalorian a show I enjoy but obviously on a more surface level. It ends each episode with a WOW THIS NEW CHARICTER or THIS CRAZY THING so that youtubers can promote it. Andor did not really have that kind of storytelling it was all designed for the story.

I've watched so many analyses of Andor and BR2049- so now to see a well-written comparison piece between them was a real kick for me! Both are masterpieces imo, as long as Season 2 of Andor is of the same quality as Season 1. Have you ever loved a show so much that you become a little nervous as to how they can possibly make the lightning strike twice? But Tony Gilroy is clearly a man of great talent, and the fact that he is being disciplined enough to cap it off at two seasons bodes well.

Great Video, I feel like one thing that sets these 2 apart from so many others is, that they are art. They thought about every shot and how to make everything look fantastic. Its not just about telling a story, but about telling a story in the most beautiful way you can.

Little late to the party (YT just suggested your video) but Blade Runner 2029 and Andor being two of my favorite productions, I really loved the parallels you drew here. One thing: I always thought it was a bit depressing these masterpieces weren't more popular, just because it shows how little of us there are. I believe we love them because we are "wired" a certain way inside, and in a way their not finding a larger audience is also reflective of how we might struggle to find understanding sometimes. Anyway I don't want this to sound too bleak, but I for one stopped trying to make people understand why these two are so fantastic. Either you get it or you don't.

I love BR2049 but, to me, it'd have been much better if that scene 2:18 didn't exist. Don't know how to explain it but it'd have impacted me more emotionally if he just sat there taking it all like a good servant he was programmed to be. That and I freaking loved Andor. Watched each episode at least 4 times since.
@DesignedbyKirk
@DesignedbyKirk Жыл бұрын
Really interesting, the way I look at it, was that it’s his reaction / turning point to realising he isn’t the good servant, and something beyond what he would ever had dreamed of. The whole idea of the movie, was the Replicants are more human than human, and those that are born, have lost their way of humanity. His aggressive reaction, only shows that despite being programmed from birth, he has the capacity of having a soul
@hello7032
@hello7032 8 ай бұрын
I always saw it as the beauty and tragedy of K realizing his humanity(what’s perceived as it, but rather just having a soul). K both realized he was *more* than how he had been treated and programmed, but also less than what he fantasized for himself as this hero figure. He’s just….existent but nothing special.

Great video! I think people are way too conditioned to equate entertainment with fast moving pictures! While Andor was slower paced, I was never bored. Kenobi was the opposite: even or especially during "action" scenes, I was bored the whole time. Worst offender was for me the chase after Obi Wan rescues Leia (for the first time). The action was shot poorly and there was nothing else to hold my attention. Same for the final fight, though I got distracted by mentally comparing it to Dragonball Z a lot...
@DesignedbyKirk
@DesignedbyKirk Жыл бұрын
Completely agree, and thanks heaps for watching! A good story doesn't need to be filled with incredible action
@rlosable
@rlosable Жыл бұрын
@@DesignedbyKirk yes, true. But I would go so far as to say that bad action can have the opposite effect. Flooding the screen with noise to fake excitement has been an old trope. But most of the Kenobi and Boba Fett action scenes were clunky, without a sense of urgency or heft to it. I'm not sure it is the Volume, since Mando mostly doesn't have that issue.

Fascinating analysis. It would help me focus if you would edit for a particular speech pattern you have: putting a preposition both at the beginning and end of a sentence, like in this example sentence: "in which to put the water in". You only need one at the start or the end, not both.

As someone who watched and loved the original Bladerunner I slept on the sequel as just another unoriginal milking of a cash cow. Comparing it side by side with Andor, a series that I consider the best Sci-fi series since The Expanse, puts Bladerunner 2049 on my watch list. Thanks
