Correction: The Bumper Case was released at around the same time as the iPhone 4. However, once Antennagate was discovered, Apple offered a free case/refunds to those who already bought one (the case “solved” the antenna issues). It was still being sold regularly but was eventually discontinued after the iPhone 4s. Apologies for missing this in the video.

The mute switch opening was widened when the CDMA iPhone 4 launched, because the CDMA model had the lowered mute switch like the 4s. The CDMA iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4s were very identical build wise, not in processing power but antenna position, screen bracket layout, back glass mounts, and they both look almost identical besides the fact that the CDMA iPhone 4 had no SIM card slot

omg imagine a bumper case for the iphone 14 and up but like a dark version since the colors arent so vibrant like a dark emerald green// sapphire blue, ect. would be so iconic

The issue with the bumper case was that it let dirt in really easily. This then made lots of little shiny spots on the matt edge metal. So actually damaged the phone below. Also in use, the rubber separated from the shiny plastic so didn’t seem to last that well.

I got a black bumper case from the free Bumper program. Loved the look and feel of it, especially the metal buttons. Combined with front and back screen protectors, it was a pretty sleek way to protect the phone. It wore out pretty quickly though and eventually the rubber pieces on the edges got stretched out to the point where the bumper was loose on my phone and would pop off too easily. Such a cool case design for the time and with iPhones 12-15 looking very identical to the iPhone 4, I could easily see them looking great on the newer generations!

No, the bumper case was already for sale from launch of the iPhone 4. It wasn’t made to fix the signal issue. They did offer a free one or a refund if you bought one after that issue was brought to public attention

I think my 12 mini would look great in a bumper case, however, it may not protect the camera very good, especially on newer models.

I loved those cases, I had the lime green for my iPhone 4 and it was the best... I carry the Arc Pulse one now for the 15 ProMx and I really like it, minimal case for iPhones are always my fave. specially now that leather is gone.

I’ve used this bumper case, and , when I got my iPhone 8 I decided I wanted a bumper again. I went with the Rhinoshield bumper case, and it is awesome!

I used a clear bumper for my iPhone 12 mini for about two years. I love bumper cases.

As an ex genius at Apple (2009-2014) there’s some stuff in this video that’s around the wrong way. Bumpers were never made to address antennagate. Bumper cases were announced with the iPhone in June 2010. In mid July, Steve Jobs held a conference to address the antenna concerns. Free bumpers would be issued to customer’s that…complained. Note it was only the black colour bumper on the program. The other colours were available for sale and never issued for free on the program. It was only ever a basic appeasement strategy using a cheap serendipitous solution that happened to already exist. At this time Apple had been venturing into basic minimalist cases. The iPad 2 had a Smart cover case… a first which still exists today. The bumpers were popular enough and not marred by Antenna gate because they continued to sell them for the 4S. The iPhone 4S fixed the antenna issues my relocating the antenna. If consumers associated it with antenna issues, why would Apple link it to their next iPhone which didn’t have the problem?

From my androids to iPhone 13 and 15 plus, I have always used Rhinoshield Crashguard and I can say without any doubt, bumper cases make the most sense for any phone. That’s all you really need for protection

There are some generic bumper style cases even for iPhone 15 pro on Amazon Most seemed to be aluminum but I did see a couple silicone ones

People really exaggerated the antenna “problem”. You needed to hold it in a ridiculous way, basically covering the whole phone for the signal strength to drop.

I've never had the iPhone 4 or the bumper case but I found it so cool at the time, my number 1 choice nowadays are the Rhinoshield CrashGuard bumper cases.

I love bumper cases​, but they are so underrated. They keep the weight of my phone down, while still protecting it from decent drops. Rhinoshield makes one that is similar to the iPhone 4 version for modern iPhones. Right now I'm rocking one from Kugew for my iPhone 15 pro.​ ​It's a little flimsy on the longer sides of the phone so I used some double-sided tape to keep it tight.

When I had an iPhone 8 I was searching for bumpers on my country, but it was imposible, I had to import two silver and dark metallic bumpers, really cool, I'm about to do the same with my iPhone 15. I like to have the back of my phone natural but I need a bumber to protect the corners of the phone, that's the weakest point of the screens.

You can get a Rhinoshield Crashguard that is basically a bumper case for every single iPhone model. There's no need for Apple to make them since now 3rd party cases are so common

It does feel like the most "apple" interpretation of a case though. Reminds me a lot of the old ipad smart covers where it was just the top lid that left the back exposed to show the design.

imo these only really worked when cameras were flush. now, honestly my camera lenses are the part i'm most worried about, and a bumper case wouldn't protect them at all.

The iPhone 4 remains my favorite iPhone (when it was new), it really felt like a premium quality, polished leap compared to its predecessors. Sure, by modern standards it's quite small and of course not powerful enough for the mobile OS of more than a decade later. The bumper case (I purchased a white one with my phone) was fine, I liked it better than the leather case I had for my next phone (5s) though it did start getting a bit grubby and raggedy after 18 months or so.

I bet that the other case is the 5C case 🙈. I didn’t disliked it that much btw. I put a bit of colored paper in front of the holes and had a great design that I could change up 👍🏻. Also, the dust collection problem was eliminated with that too.

apple should totally bring these cases back for the newer phones but there should be a lip on the back that extends the back of the case to where the camera base is for a bit more extra protection for the back. it would be a lot better than the clear cases they yellow so fast it isnt even funny i had mine for like a month now its almost piss yellow.

Apple doesn’t like cases too much because they have these glassy smooth sides that allow for the phone to glide effortlessly out of your hand onto the floor. So hopefully you have to go out and buy a new one.
