Ok here’s my theory: celebrities that we grew up watching at award shows like Katy Perry, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, etc. are a lot older now and less enthusiastic about stuff like the AMAs because they’re so far into their career. Most of them don’t even attend anymore. I think we’re in this weird stage where the old generation of celebrities are leaving, but the new ones haven’t really arrived yet, and award shows are just kinda bland because nobody AT the awards even care.

Ariana is the only pop star that matters today. Her album “Thank u, next” is one of the best, most well rounded pop albums I’ve heard this decade. She has EXTREME TALENT, and she isn’t just a pop star, she is an artist. She loves music, it’s her job. She doesn’t do it for money, for fame, she does it because she cares about it. That’s what makes a good pop star. Beyoncé, Mariah, Whitney, Gaga, and Ariana are like the only mainstream pop stars that have cared deeply about music, and feel good when singing.

here's my theory on why award shows are so bad now: every good performance that makes waves in pop culture has a little thing called shock value. when a artist uses shock value in their performance people will more likely remember it and talk about it. britney with the snake, gaga bleeding out of her chest and hanging from the stage, beyonce announcing her pregnancy, and miley twerking. they all huge shock value and had people talking about the performance for years and years. no one is doing anything shocking anymore it's all the same thing over and over again just on different award shows. no one is being creative on stage anymore and that's why we've seen such a huge decline in ratings and quality of award shows. if artist don't start switching things up and adding that element of surprise to their performances you'll just see the same boring award shows over and over again. and that's the tea

There is a reason award shows are not good. It’s because there is a lack of actual talented people who are FAMOUS. We are allowing social media stars to take over. There is barely any well-known talented people, and no one is scouting for new talent and that’s because it doesn’t take talent to get big, it takes looks. I am not kidding. Agents/Managers aren’t looking for someone with gifts anymore, they are looking for attractive people with a big following ratio. That is who they are promoting now, not stars. So, since there is a lack of famous people who can entertain, that means... there is a lack of actual performances. Hence the reason why we keep seeing these same people(Camilla Cabello) perform over and over again. Also, now it’s easy for mediocre artist to top charts because there is no competition in being talented. Let’s take Lil Nas(a former twitter troll) for example, his silly song topped the charts for WEEKS. It was so easy for him to get famous off of that. That isn’t to bash Nas himself, I mean rodeo is a bop. But still. Have you seen him perform “Old Town Road”...? No, even though his song topped charts it is not taken seriously as actual music, and realistically no one wants to pay to watch Nas perform that. His main demographic was kids for that song, and kids do not watch adult award shows. Award shows are lacking because there is no famous artist to put on the stage that will bring them in proper amounts of views. All the famous people now are just tik tokers and KZfaqrs. And yeah, you could bring in other talented people, but if they aren’t famous then they can’t bring in revenue. So, not to be over dramatic, but there is a serious lack of talented people who are simultaneously famous. I’m not hating on tik tokers and youtubers, etc. They can make their money as they wish, get their coin. But at the same time I wish we would start putting more emphasis on searching for people who’s gifts deserve to be heard and seen. Edit: Also, serious artist do NOT want to perform at award shows where a mediocre performer could possibly steal an award from them. Or a place where a annoying ass tik tok star could be sitting next to them. Have you noticed that the actual pop stars no longer perform at these award shows?
