fr!i spent My whole life chasing after my dad cuz one day he cared and the other day he didn't so me being a kid that confused me.in the end I'm the only one who got hurt and it really amazed me when I realized that having your dad there doesn't mean it's gonna solve your problems.living in a HEALTHY two parent home is better yes but I'm happy with living in my HEALTHY single parent home without him now.

ALISHA EVE EXACTLY. My older sister was raised by my dad for a few years before I was born. He’s her former step-father. She’s really scarred by that experience, even today. I’m glad I don’t have any memories of him because my mom divorced when I was one or two. The things my sister tells me about him make me grateful he wasn’t around.

@@dirtyhatemachine This. My father was very religious amd abusive and he made me feel like my virginity had to be guarded with my life. I lost my virginity before marriage, which isn't what I wanted. I stayed with the guy simply because I felt like I had to stay with the person I lost my virginity to for the rest of my life. Then I grew up and dumped his ass and had sex with someone on my own terms, and for the first time I felt free. I hated sex before but then suddenly I loved it. I loved being in control of my sexuality. Having sex when you want to and when you feel ready can be an amazing thing. It made me less scared of my own body and I felt like I had more ownership of myself, and since then I have learned soooo much that I wouldn't have if I had stayed tied down to my immediate oppressors.

@@lelnope30 I grew up with parents like this. It makes you feel like your worth as a girlfriend or a wife to your partner is based on your virginity and not who you are as a person. It makes you feel like your sexuality is the prize and that is all you can offer to the table. I bet girls who wait until marriage feel like you, that they have to stay with the person they lost my virginity to for the rest of my life even if he's abusive husband or he cheats.

As someone that didn't have sex until I was 23, from my experience guys tried much harder to get with me if I mentioned to them that I hadn't had sex yet. Men, at least in America, have some weird obsession with ""taking virginities"", as if it's a collectible item. When I was in high school, I had 2 friends from two different friend groups that lost their virginity to the same guy, we were like 14/15 and he was like 17 going around trying to have sex with a bunch of girls that have never had sex. That behavior is completely predatory and by T.I. putting his daughter's business on blast, he literally made her a target for weirdos.

The definition is mistreatment and in the eyes of the law demands are a form of control, and parents who seek to control their child's body and lives are abusive. I've had the opposite experience. My mom left and my Dad was the one there. My dad knew how to respect boundaries and let me have the freedom to go about while only making sure I had the knowledge and ability to keep myself safe. It really sucks how vastly different our parents can all be. Everyone deserves to have respectful parents willing to help and protect their kids, but shit never goes that way. It's always a hit or miss.

Thank you for the comment about teaching your children proper biological terms for their genitalia. It is a huge deal that I stand behind with my own children. It can most definitely help children grow into well adjusted adults who are confident in their bodies and sexual health as well as helping to prevent sexual assault or abuse. 💜

They have hymen reconstruction surgeries in Korea. And that I think it was Indonesia where women can’t be police officers until they receive a gyno exam that prove they still have their hymen. If my dad tried pulling this shit when I was 18 my mom would’ve divorced him. Also, why didn’t the gynecologists refuse to do this knowing his true intentions on the visits? My parents way of raising me was “Youre gonna do what youre gonna do just tell us so you can do it safely.” This was great! But when i started being sexually active(as a lesbian) my Dad would tell his friends or family members about times he walked in on me etc. it was humiliating and dehumanizing honestly. I felt like i had no control and i couldnt say anything or id be seen as a spoil sport or annoying. But that was always in a small group. I cant imagine what it would be like to have thousands and possibly millions of people knowing those things. Its terrifying to think about. I hope shes okay.

TW: Sexual Assault I remember when I got my first boyfriend and my mom gave me the sex talk. The only thing she told was that if I lost my virginity than I lost all my value so no man will ever want me. My older brother was so obsessed with whether I was sexually active or not that some day we would consistently ask me if I had or not and called me a hoe for having a boyfriend. He emphasized what my mom had told me. He said I would be worthless and a hoe if I lost my virginity. Then my boyfriend sexually assaulted me. I remember crying and asking why he would hurt me like that and he just said "because I wanted to." The relationship was so so toxic and yet I stayed because he constantly told me that he took my virginity so I was no longer a virgin. I stayed because I thought I had lost my value, I thought I was worthless. So yeah shit like this is very wrong. It gives young girls the wrong idea of sex and you're literally equating a person's value to their sex life regardless of it being consensual or not. When I first heard of this it instantly made me start shaking and panicking because I know the thoughts she must be going through and just how violated she must feel. It also finally made me realize that I had been sexually assaulted. I think I had gone all these years just ignoring that it even happened. I also finally spoke to my therapist about it. side note- my brother saw nothing wrong with what t.i did. DISGUSTING

I had heard some of this, but "virgins are too much work" - I guess he never heard of guys who pretty much keep a score card on 'how many cherries they busted'. He's put her on the map! Good job! Oddly, I was having a shower thought this morning about the US and sex ed in a related notion. I'm German. Sexuality is not a taboo, teen magazines do a TON of sex ed stuff and you can very openly buy them without fear of punishment or similar. Sex Ed is being given from so many sources, that schools often only bother with the pure biological facts, because kids by the age of 14 are assumed to pretty much know it all - though teachers will often offer to stay behind for questions when that time comes. And my passing thought was: I wonder if the US would struggle this hard with men trying to control women; with abortion laws, with teen pregnancy, with body shaming... if they had a more solid background.

Ladies stop supporting this man and anything that he is apart of. I noticed not one person has called to action to stop supporting him or held his feet to the fire. It’s insane how black men in the community are protected at all cost when it comes to the violence and abuse they invoke against black women and their bodies. When I turned 18 my doctors were legally obligated to ask me before telling my parents anything under the HIPPA laws. I remember because I used to HATE talking on the phone with dentists and doctors and therapists and psychiatrists but I had to because they literally wouldn’t talk to my mom. When i had sex ed in like 6th grade, they gave us a list of “morals”. Some were about smoking or some shit but i specifically remember one being “not having sexual intercourse until marriage”.We were supposed to circle the ones important to us and even then i thought to myself “that doesn’t really matter...” Because it doesn’t. Men are congratulated for being womenizers while women are shamed for having sex, period. The double standards on sex in general are hilarious really.

I'm not a woman of color, so I don't personally have the same struggle of racism and misogyny as one. However, I come from an EXTREMELY religious family that slut-shamed me for asking to go on dates with my boyfriend when I was in hs. I remember for me and my now exes anniversary, he wanted to take me to dinner and my dad said no, and when I asked why, he said because I could be tempted into "sexual immorality". I pointed out how hard it would be to have sex in a restaurant, and he said "oh, well you could always sneak out by the dumpsters and go at it, so I don't trust it"... my father used religion as a justification to tell his 17-year-old daughter that her standards were so low, she'd lose her virginity behind a restaurant dumpster. I know that this doesn't deal with the racial aspect, but misogyny is so genuinely toxic when it comes to parental figures, whether it is based on racism, religion, or just wanting to keep power. And I wish more people touched on it and how it affects children.
